Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Some excerpts that caught my mind:

What Simons has done is turn the focus inwards. He has leaned into his support team, which is extensive. He has a personal trainer, a performance trainer (with whom he analyses video footage), a nutritionist, a chef. He even has a mindset coach, who has been especially useful.

Simons is heavily into meditation and visualisation work. He reads a lot, with philosophy a favourite area. He often uploads motivational slogans to his Instagram account. He fell back on all of this. Meanwhile, his personal situation has become more settled.

It was agreed a while back as reward for getting into the CL top 4, saving the play off game which would have been this week

I dont mind that

Given our injuries a bit of R&R seems like a good idea

And given the change in manager, a clean break/fresh start seems reasonable too
Players at this club have way too much power. Couple days off is the most they 'deserved'. When you're that shit on & off the pitch, your ass oughta be at training running hard miles.

Im not even sure its a player power thing, clubs often take the chance to give players time off midseason if the opportunity is there

And considering the state of injury in our squad, I dont mind them resting a bit

They still have a solid week of training before the next game

what power do they have?

They clearly had doubts about Frank for months and yet Frank was allowed to stay until it became obvious we were in danger of relegation.

Did they openly defy his tactics? No

Did they express his beta energy on the pitch? Yes.

The closest we’ve come to player power was Kane completely losing faith in Nuno.

Hopefully Tudor lets him off the leash a bit.
Needs to find a way of linking the defence to Xavi. Until now, he's looked too far ahead of them to get the ball, or too close to them to do anything with it.

5 days off after yet another embarrassing defeat.

My serious big club.
Squad is on its knees with injuries. Players dropping like flies in fairly innocuous incidents.
A rest is worth more than over training IMO.

Yeah I actually think the players did put in decent effort for Frank throughout his entire tenure. They never stopped trying to implement his ideas and they did run for him - until the Newcastle game it never felt to me like they actually gave up or downed tools.

I think the issue was his ideas were shit and he was an uninspiring leader that they didn't believe in. If the manager can't get the players up for it and can't get buy-in, I think that's on their failure as a leader than the players. Our dressing room has some dickheads but it's not Real Madrid - they're mostly nice enough lads tbh.

It's like trying to shag someone you don't remotely fancy. You can do it but it's gonna be unpleasant and you're not gonna be that up for it or giving your all

Let's hope the players can get hard for Tudor.

In many ways, players downing tools when it's obvious a coaches ideas will harm the team is the best thing to do, not the worst.
I would disagree with some of your sentiment though. The first half Vs Newcastle was no worse than City, Spam, Villa (FAC), Arse, Chelsea. There was just nothing there at all. Players all looked vacant and disinterested.
They may not have actively have downed tools, but I strongly suspect that they were so de-motivated that subconsciously, they weren't trying.
