Bang on.

Man City spent 3-4 years recruiting the right people so that Guardiola felt comfortable upon arrival.

Likewise Liverpool, whilst not as detailed, had Michael Edwards assisting Klopp.

We’ve actually had 2 pretty good guys in the last decade that we could have persevered with ; Paul Mitchell and Gabbianini, but the board ran both off.

What happened with Gab then?

Thought he just scored a more senior position elsewhere.

Mitchell? Meh ...He's a myth IMO.

.....Recruitment staffing has just been a shambles since the likes of Jan, Hugo, Dembele days.

Was Gabbianini really good? He built most of this side. Seems like he’s riding on the coattails of that initial 10 Ange games and his signings and particularly his squad building has been really poor in hindsight.

Not all home runs, but better than Flange.

Udogie, VdV, Vic, Madders, BJ, and Vuskovic.
I think Vic and BJ were awful signings, Udogie and VDV are clearly talented but again, those initial Ange games did a lot of carrying for their ability.

For me Lange has been the wost because he completely failed to rebuild that side but a ton of damage was done under Paratici/Gabbanini.

Just no effort to find profiles we were missing or build a coherent squad. Every club up and down the league from Bournemouth to Brighton were building coherent sides, filling in gaps they were missing and had recruitment and coaching aligned, while Paratici and Gabbanini were doing late 90s/mid 2000s style wheeling and dealing and signing any kind of player.

All of these guys are fucking Da Vinci compared to Steve Hitchen who had the job much longer and spent more money at a more critical juncture for the club and literally every single player he signed made the team worse.

Agreed. But if you look at value, if you sold those players, they'd make money off them, even factoring in Madders being done.

If we tried to unload all of Lange's signings, we'd lose a lot of money. Pretty good baseline to use.

That's stone age shit mate.

The spreadsheet-humping Moneyball shit is table stakes now, it's universal at the top level of football. The question is whether it's attached to an organization with the conviction and market nous to actually execute.
I suspect we are actually at the end of peak moneyball era, what comes next I don’t have a clue, AI perhaps ? But when everyone is trying to use data 📈 there is really no value in it aside from confirming the bloody obvious.
