Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

And when you divide by number of games played with / without, you see that the rate is higher without. Easy.
By a whole 3%. With a sample size about 67% smaller than Romero’s.

And if you include last seasons abysmal league results, which gives you a closer sample size, it’s also negligible. And if you want to include 2 seasons prior, be my guest and see what happens. I’m doing you a solid not including that year and your point is still not hitting the mark.

We’re just a terrible PL side with or without Romero. I don’t really see how this is an argument.

Every time we concede, I remember the words "world class".

We've gone backwards since he arrived.

Replacing our great Belgian CB's was always going to be tough - but this has been a disaster.

Yet somehow it was sold as elite recruitment.
Some were fooled.
Some still are.
I think most of our recruitment since 2020-ish has been hyperfocused on individual quality over team cohesion.

We're kind of vessel now for individuals.

Jose said we were too nice and needed to be cunts, and now we've got a team rather overflowing with them. Just stupid ones, instead of the clever ones he wanted.

Romero can be a good player, but I expect he'd jump at the chance to move to a big club in spain.
Micky is a good player, but he already seems to be PR'ing his way into a big move

You can see it in romero whenever stuff goes south on the pitch. He looks like he hasn't got the shit to give to be actually trying to prevent goals, and as good as he can be, he's often watching shit happen and shrugging at it. I feel like we're kind of an exhibition team to him, even though he says he loves the club etc

And against City, we did 2-0 after he came on. But because of his shit performance we didn't win. So take him away, and we probably get another win, increasing the % difference more.

And the problem is much more than only the % of games won. It's also the games where we don't play and lose because of his errors.

We all know how many they are and how many points it's cost us.

The games we won against Burnley and WH (3-0 in both), we would have won with any CB. The dominance was up front. We beat Everton by a similar number.

And our latest win against CP was when Romero was missing.

He's made so many mistakes this season it's hard to remember them all.

But remember Liverpool when Captain Clownshoes cost us two goals and got sent off.

Or when Bournemouth owned him. When he couldn't track back against Brighton.. Or his horror shows against Burnley and Brighton.

Sent off against Man U.

Sunderland making a fool out of him.

He's a disgrace. Simple as that. And we're relegation candidates with HIM as the captain. How lucky we are to have him!

Yea, he doesn't have the mental fortitude of a top player, nor can he stay alert throughout the game. He can look alright in games where he isn't really tested, and every once in a while he can look good. But being a good player is much more than that. I think that is what other clubs spotted a long time ago. Juve didn't even let him play. What would it have cost them to have let him play at least one game? I guess they just didn't like what they saw.

Then some Spurs fans have started to believe that he's world class and can't admit that they're wrong. Even when he's having his worst season ever for us, they're still claiming he's a star.

If I'm honest, he was not this bad a few seasons ago. First couple of seasons he was alright. But this season his level has been shocking. He's costing us a goal nearly every game, and for every goal, there are numerous more mistakes that the opponents fail to convert. It's definitely affecting the other players. When a captain is so bad, the rest will stop believing in the project.

He's not a leader. He's definitely more of a clown. The question is, are we going to get rid of him before its too late?

Son seemed to be able to bond with everyone. Not we just have a bunch of really bad apples. And the captain is the worst of the lot. We truly deserve to be in the position we're in.

Juve actually gave atalanta the option to buy him for half the price they paid, having not kicked a ball for them, and genoa were equally chuffed to sell him to us for more than 3x wait they'd paid for him.

If he wasn't scoring goals I think people would be far more critical - but he's not a forward, so that isn't how you should judge your CB

The entire forum hates the guy, especially right now after the red against United. I’m not really sure how it can be more critical.

Somehow me providing stats that show we’re equally as shit with him as we are without has turned into me claiming he’s a star boy.

They do this.

They seem to think that pointing out he's our best player means we're saying he's the greatest footballer ever.

Nope. All it means is he's our best player.

We need better players.

Amazing. Those numbers tell the story.

He's stepping out of position chasing moments up the pitch - four goals this season - while the defensive lapses have arguably cost us far more at the other end. And soon he has as many red cards as goals.

If you're trading defensive security for attacking output, the maths has to justify it. Right now, it doesn't.

The more analytical posters can see the imbalance. The more emotional ones clearly don't.

These "more analytical posters" don't seem to know we bought Romero from Atalanta not Genoa. :roflmao:

Yes, sorry. Genoa were the ones that sold him to Juve.

Genoa paid around £3.5m for him and sold him to Juve for £30m ish 12 months later.

Juve then immediately loaned him back to Genoa for a season, and when he came back then then sent him off to Atlanta with an option to buy for £15m ish. Which, of course, Atalanta did so they could get £50m for us.

If there wasn't a red flag there, it's dodgy in some other way. Very strange.

Why is it strange? And where is the red flag? It's just common dodgy transfer business dealings where everyone gets their snout in the trough.

Romero was incredible for Atalanta but once we were in for him the pay day for all concerned was on the table. So all took it.

Don't see what the conspiracy or "red flag" is here? Romero went on to be in the team of tournament at the 2021 Copa America which Argentina won - and then of course went on to win the World Cup in 2022.

Seems a good deal for all concerned doesn't it?

The problem is that we didn't buy Bastoni for Conte when he wanted him isn't it?

So much energy going into arguing about this guy, when it’s obvious to anyone with eyes and a brain that he’s no world beater, but is also so far from our biggest problem, it’s not even funny.

Brilliant on his day. A calamity when not on his day. Getting a bit of a tough ride in here, compared to the rest of the squad though.
