We're bigger than all of them.
Much Bigger revenues. Bigger fanbase. Bigger stadium.
In what way are we not Bigger than them. By what metric?
If any of those were threatened by relegation the media attention would be a fraction of what we're getting. Because we're a bigger club that has only spent one season outside the top division in the last 80 years!
And, case in point. Leeds are in a relegation battle. With us.
Yet compare the media coverage between us and them! Of course we're a bigger fucking club
Accept it’s a debatable, subjective point. And I feel maybe I need to add some context.
In my world, no one is bigger or better than us. I’d debate it with anyone and have strong arguments.
For example, historic stats prove that we have the second highest attendances over all, with United marginally above us. That’s fact. So we are on that metric massive.
But sadly, the world is not exactly as I see it and other fans would counter my confidence with, for example, who has won more league titles and European Championship, Villa or Spurs?
It’s Villa. So a Villa fan can successfully defend a PoV that they are “bigger”. Of course they are not…but you can see the point.
Here is another head fuck. In 2015-16 when Villa went down. Their average attendance was 33,690 in the same year ours was 34,947. There Stadium capacity was 42,000 at the time.
Leeds have won more league championships than Spurs and have won it three times since we last did. So a Leeds fan has a defensible argument that Leeds are more successful / bigger. We can counter this by saying they are a yo-yo club and they spent years in the Championship while we got rich coming 4/5/6 and sometimes higher sometimes lower.
Again, I am not suggesting I believe these clubs are “bigger” more pointing to that certain points of view exist that can argue they are. And that our plight is not unprecedented.
And I’d close by stating that some of the narrative around us at the moment is becoming a little gross, we are going through really tough times, but not unprecedented.
And
Statically speaking Tottenham have had higher match day attendances than any club in British history bar Man United. But that would not mean we are a bigger club than Liverpool.
