Football is fucked, there is a severe lack of good players compared to years gone by.

Very true. Which Premier League players today would be likely to do something so memorable it would still be talked about in 5 years? Like a Giggs, Gascoigne, Bale, Ginola or Cantona?
Look at the teams Italy is rolling out. Unrecognizable
Football has become about pace and power and physicality, duels etc.. as opposed to technical ability, finesse, individual brilliance, mavericks.
Also go back 20 years or so see how much teams give you space on the pitch as opposed to now, teams are setup more defensively from back to front which is why you don't really get any stand outs on the pitch anymore because those players have been phased out the game due to runners and duellers.
