Oh look, we aren’t going down now so the narrative has shifted from “you asked for this” to “this is Ange ball” even though it absolutely isn’t and “Ange ball” at the end was literally parking the bus and hoping to beat shite sides. De Zerbi playing vague lip service to essentially say “I want to attack” does not equate to Ange ball. We had more control and more solidity tonight than any game I saw of us under the fraud.

The “major” in “major European trophy” doing a lot of legwork btw. The final could be Forest-Freiburg this year (after a recent final of fucking Rangers-Frankfurt & 15th vs 17th) and people will still be saying “major” as if it means anything except in their own cope world. The only “major” European trophy is the champions league, everything else is a side show.

We knew this when we were in the CL. Every team knows this when they are in the CL.

Don't get cranky just because De Zerbi followed through on his promise to get us back to playing like we did under Postecoglou.

Just be thankful. :ange-pray:

This is a little premature no? Sure, it was a great couple of results over the weekend, and the direction of travel seems to have shifted, but it could easily change back again. We aren't out of the brown stuff just yet.

It was a terrific performance tonight, no doubt, but we had plenty that were just as good under Postecoglou, you just choose not to remember them.

I could also resort to your usual tactic of denigrating our opponents. Aston Villa clearly had their mind on other things this evening, (and who could blame them?)

Had they been on their game it could have been quite a different outcome, but I'm in too good a mood to be churlish, so I'll let it go.

It's fascinating how you continue to take every opportunity to run down, virtually every trophy we've ever won.

Part of the whole point of the game is winning silverware. Do you think fans of other clubs pooh-pooh any trophy that isn't a Champions League or a Premier League title?

Do you think Palace or Newcastle turned their noses up at their respective cup wins last season? Even Chelsea were delighted to win the Conference Cup, despite them having won every trophy possible over the last two decades.

Villa clearly think the Europa League is a tournament worth winning too, or they wouldn't have put out a second string side tonight, nor put in such a lacklustre performance, so as to
keep plenty in reserve for Thursday.

No wonder so many people think you're a Woolwich fan, when you demonstrate such an aversion to winning trophies.

That’s true mate. You hold on to that hope we go down so you can say it’s what we deserve for wanting to sack Ange. I believe in you!

It’s so obvious that you exclusively exist to big up Ange. If we win a game, it’s Ange. If we lose a game, it’s because we sacked Ange. The Europa league is MASSIVE because Ange won it, and ignore the other teams who have won it recently.

Being honest about a trophy isn’t playing it down. I’m stating facts about it. It’s you who relies on emotional bullshit like “gooner”. There’s also a difference between being HAPPY to win a trophy (any trophy!) and his sad little Angeboi loser cult spending their time pretending it’s hugely competitive or prestigious. No Chelsea fan is dedicating time to doing that. The trophy was great. It is also objectively competitively a weak competition that poor teams win and compete for all the time.

Anyway, keep pining for the guy who delivered 22 losses because he won a 2nd tier European trophy, and I’ll keep looking to the future. Just one more win to better Ange’s point tally from last season - I believe!

Lol he's so much better than Ange it's not even funny. The scale of improvement is ridiculous.

An actual coach doing actual coach stuff. Amazing.

🤷‍♂️

I can’t keep up man, is this guy going to be the Next Ange or another Frank like flop?

Of course failure for Frank looked like

- Being ahead of where Ange finished in the league
- top 4 in the CL, with bigger scalps than Ange got in the EL.

But we know Ange sort of re-defined expectations round here and left a stinky mess, it’s just taking lots of times to clean out said mess..

I know this is the Derangers group attempt at pathetic cope but De Zerbi literally said in his first presser he wants us playing like we did under Postecoglou.

You can't win this one. De Zerbi made it impossible.

Edit: unless De Zerbi fails which I wouldn't put it past Derangers hoping he does just because he said what he said. :ange-bored:

I couldn’t care less what he said. I agree we played well under Ange for a short period. De Zerbi wanting to emulate that short period but long term is fine by me. United also played good footy under Ole for a short period and I don’t think he’s a good coach either.

He was just looking back at the last time we played football he liked. It wasn’t an ode to your God. Ange achieved it for all of 5 minutes and then it was mostly crap stuff.

I want De Zerbi to be a success and was very happy with his appointment, I find it weird how a nice few words in the press conference has been clung on to, but I guess it sort of makes sense in the “scrabbling for arguments” context.

Why on earth would I want Tottenham to go down? I'm a Spurs fan, of course I want them to stay up.

Admittedly, I will probably feel a grim sort of I-told-you-so pleasure, if the unthinkable does happen, but that wiil be nothing compared to the elation I'll be feeling if De Zerbi does indeed pull off The Great Escape.

I agree with most of that except, of course, for the "Deranger" bits but if you're seeking to be outraged by "normal spurs fans supporting a Spurs manager who won stuff for us" you're in the right place.

This is a space for Spurs fans who like winning trophies and not being relegated. Just chill and join in the fun...

What Derangers never want to accept is that 80% of management is "Buy In".

This is what Poch had. And it took us to great heights. But we never won shit with him despite having a vastly superior squad to the sorry mess we have now.

Postecoglou got this sorry mess to 5th in the league. Then got them to believe they could win our first major Trophy in 40 years despite a ruinous injury crisis that had devastated our league season.

He got them to BELIEVE. And we WON. The monkey was finally off our backs.

But then the Derangers sacked him and put the monkey in charge.

Now De Zerbi wants us to believe again. We may just get out of the mess Derangers caused.

The rightful heir to the GREAT MAN's legacy.

When De Zerbi wins us our next major trophy we'll build his statue right alongside Ange's 😍

Huge credit to Ange from me tonight: the win earlier was a proper legacy win for him.

No, not the high press or the enterprising football, but rather the unabashed binning off the league last year in favour of the Europa League. Look at that Villa performance, with all eyes on the Europa over the PL: a 2nd team squad, a team setup with zero cohesion or plan, a completely lifeless performance which confused the home fans. Playing Villa tonight felt exactly like a proper 2025 Angeball performance right down to the 0.0 xG in the first half. It was brilliant. We have Ange to thank for Emery following his lead in that respect. :ange-arms:

Absolutely. Having achieved what you need in the league you prioritise what you can WIN.

Which is what legends do 😍

And not everyone can be like Ange to 'bin' the league and won the EL! Lol. See if Emery could get over Forest first! It will be so funny if Emery crashed out. Shows how much Ange overachieved. Hindsight keeps proving him right.

Emery has won it 4 times already - I’m not getting involved in this “debate” I never had a problem with Ange and still don’t. But Emery not winning with Villa would not be a stain against him, he’s been to 5 EL finals and the only one he lost was with Woolwich - which makes me very happy

I don’t think that matters to be honest.

What does is the team he put out yesterday. Even though some of our brethren on here don’t rate the Europa League, this very high quality manager obviously does. The fact he chose to rotate so much yesterday shows this cleared as day.

It also shows me that if a manager like Emery rates it as a competition he should be trying to win. It was worth us doing what we had to to win it also.

FWIW I’d like to see Villa win it. I like Emery. And their fans are one of the least objectionable in the league.

It was so good that RDZ brought back Ange Ball in our latest game.
High pressing with inverted FBs, especially in the first half.
It was great to watch.

And Lo and Behold... we WON... away to a team supposedly vastly superior to us!

Why did we win?
Because the players are back playing in a system they believe in!!

Full credit to Sir Ange.

Fancy rotating your team to prioritise winning a European Trophy. Crazy thinking! :D

Funnily enough this applies as much to some of our supporters as it does to the oppo. 😍

You guys are so disingenuous with this comparison.

Nobody would’ve had an issue if Ange rotated in this scenario. A semi final against very strong premier league opposition and you’re one down after the first leg. Your team is pretty much guaranteed CL qualification anyway - you’ve had a strong, professional league season.

Ange didn’t do that. He wasn’t professional. He allowed the league season to spiral out of all control and he “rotated” against the likes of AZ Alkmaar and Bodo Glimt. Teams we have an enormous talent and resource advantage over.

Emery hasn’t done this throughout .. they didn’t rotate between Bologna and they consistently have won their league games throughout and remained PROFESSIONAL.

Their fans (rightly) will be fucking pissed off about what happened last night .. but they’ll view it as a one off, not Emery consistently being unable to balance competitions.

Emery has a Europa League ceiling btw - he’s not champions league level. That’s why his little forays at CL clubs haven’t gone well and he’s returned to type.

I am SHOCKED that the Europa league “king” whose career is defined by winning the competition a lot takes it seriously though .. and we should totally take his perspective as gospel on this subject.

Villa are looking comfortably top 5 and are a goal down, in those circumstances it is forgivable to focus on it a bit for a game, it isn’t acceptable to throw away your league season. This is what the Angebois will never understand.

Come on mate. Stop talking rot.

Postecoglou protected our most vital assets in Romero and VDV throughout the last three months of the League campaign as he prioritised their participation in the Europa League.

We won it. So he was absolutely correct to make that decision once we'd secured PL safety. Just as Emery is prioritising the EL semi-finals. They are exactly the same decisions and it's just Deranged churlishness of you to suggest otherwise.
