Player Dejan Kulusevski

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We have missed Kulu badly.

Before Kudus, by far our best player at holding the ball up, effort levels and dribbling up the pitch which we have lacked much since the Kudus injury

Kudus and Kulu are our best players at running with the ball.

If there is a player that can come back stronger, its Kulu. Massive mentality there, we just need to finally see it back on the pitch.

I think we are a bit blinded by players' inadequacy (at times), when they are absent.

Overall we have missed options, like no other club.

Wishing Kulusevski a return to full working order, however unlikely.

He can come back mentally stronger and more mature, but obviously it's still questionable at what level physically.

I agree though we miss him terribly. I don't think it'll be wise to count on him coming back at any decent physical level. It'd be a unexpected blessing if he did.

If he's fit, he will be playing for Sweden in pre-season (friendly 1 June, World Cup starts 15 June).

So we will know in another 6 weeks whether he's fit. If he's not fit to play for Sweden, that's the time for alarm bells, as it probably means he's not fit enough to start for Spurs at start of 2026/27

Having not played for us for so long he should never be allowed to play with Sweden until he’s proved himself with us for a number of games.

Nah, if he's fit enough to manage the odd few minutes for Sweden, he should play.
It'll be to our benefit as it will help him get fit and sharp for next season.

The timing isn't his fault, if it turns out that way, and it would be unfair for the club to try and stop him as the world cup is special.

He’s not gonna play at the World Cup without playing any football for over a year. Not even Potter is that mad. They might take him in the squad as a Beckham-like mascot as he’s captain and a big personality, but he won’t play.
Yeah and knowing Kulu he won't be of any use to them if he's not fully fit. When/if he does return I'm fully expecting him to take a long time to get anywhere close to his best - he's always looked well off it when he's not fully fit and sharp.

I'd be surprised if he's fit and ready to play at the start of next season let alone feature for Sweden at the World Cup.

I'm fearing that we'll never see him at his best again.

I hope I'm wrong.

The closest I can find to his freak patella injury among footballers is the OG Ronaldo, whose entire kneecap migrated up his leg from what I understand. He came back and had a great career and won a world cup after like 15 months out (similar timeframe to Kulu, potentially) but was never the same player.

When you're one of the greatest players of all time if you come back at, say, 70-80% you're still pretty damn good. The question is, if Kulu comes back at 70-80% is he even still a PL quality player?

I'm hoping for the best but fearing the worst. At least he's never been reliant on his pace...

I think Kulusevski had an operation in late March / early April that cleaned out some 'debris' inside the knee that had been causing him problems. By all accounts he is training to build up fitness and body composition. Too late to be able to play for us and meaningfully contribute in the next 2 weeks, but if he can get 2 or 3 friendlies in for Sweden in late May / June I do not see why he should not play at the world cup. I do not think Sweden are blessed with a deep squad, and can afford to take him their 25th man as a luxury. Even if he only plays the last 15 mins of group games. We will definitely benefit as we'll know at the start of the summer transfer window if we need to replace him or not in our squad, and if fit he will come into pre-season ready to really train hard.

Playing in the US could showcase him to clubs.
He could still have a career there that’s for sure.

We had a young lad at our (semi pro step 5) team who went over and was playing in their equivalent of the championship.
In the uk he was playing 6 levels below the premier league!

That’s the standard of US football.
