Player James Maddison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

But they were both totally conclusive.

Tel kicked their player in the head.
That was conclusive, and left a massive mark on their players head. Don’t know what more conclusive evidence you need than our players kicking theirs in the head 6 foot in the air, after their player headed the ball.

The tackle by their player in the box clearly got the ball, again what more conclusive evidence than him playing the ball and it changing direction do you need
Even if he did get the merest touch , and that is all it could have been , the ball didn't go any discernable distance or change direction enough to stop Maddison being able to play at it , Maddison is still allowed to stay on his feet and play for the ball .

That opportunity was denied him by the tackle .

The defender didn't win or clear the ball , getting a touch of any type doesn't not give a defender free rein to take a player off his feet .

I don't understand how people don't get this bit , touching the ball doesn't give you all rights .
In the Premier League, unless it is followed by a forceful follow through, a touch of the ball is enough to deny the award of a penalty. This has been said by Webb on numerous occasions, and quite a few penalties have been overturned just for getting the slightest of touches on the ball

Remember the Premier League does not adhere to the true Laws of Football on numerous things, the obvious one being handball, but more to what the clubs and other stakeholders want from the product.

In fact the Match Centre last night read the statement from the PGMOL that Maddison was not awarded a penalty because Nmecha played the ball. You can look that up yourself or just read Evening Standard report if you want

Yes I seen it , doesn't make it right , the defender didn't win the ball , if he did touch he merely moved it a bit , he then denied Maddison the opportunity to continue playing for the ball by taking his left leg out .
Now I'm not arguing this because I'm emotional or inflamed by the result .
We could go back and forth about this forever , but it shows how F@#ked up the game has become , we don't know what is going on or going to happen , and I'm certain those charged with the officiating haven't got a clue either.
Hence why I watch so little football , I come from a generation that knew it for the game it was .

Reminds me a bit of a pen Gomes gave away against Man United when we were 2-0 up and went on to lose 5-2.

Gomes dives in a gets the measliest touch on the ball but the ref gives the pen as it barely changed trajectory and the opposition player could've run on to it.

Grazing the ball shouldn't give players carte blanche to take players out without giving away a foul. It needs to be meaningful contact and a clean tackle imo.

If spam get a result against toon and we're not doing well against chelscum, he has to come on for a full second half.

And then start against Everton.

We need him.

Yeh Maddison gets the touch not the defender, it’s a pen. I can get the ref not seeing it but makes the case against VaR that it’s fucking useless.

from this point it looks as if the defender touched in not maddison -

The thing for me is Ref's are to afraid to make calls these days as they have the safety net of VAR, without VAR in the game that gets given every day, i also reckon that if thats the Gooners it also gets given by the Ref........

But then why the difference in how they were reviewed?

They looked at Tels one for what seemed an age, angle after angle. In one angle it looked like a foul, the other it looked like there was no contact. So rightly, they told the ref to go look at it.

For Maddison’s they checked it for literally what seemed like 10 seconds before deciding no pen check complete. No review from the ref, even though similarly, one angle looked a foul, the other not so much.

It’s the biggest issue with VAR, it’s the way it’s used and not the technology itself. There’s no consistency or standardisation of how incidents are reviewed and it leaves it far too open to bias, subjectivity and human error.
Because they wanted, desperately, to give Leeds a penalty, but they didn't want to give us one. They looked and looked and looked at theirs until they had enough to give it.
They gave ours a single glance, saw what they thought was a touch by the defender which got them out of jail and waved it away.
Fixed.

I don't think that's his official account. Nothing on his facebook or X accounts.

The ref can give a foul if the tackle is reckless or endangering the opponent, even if they win the ball.
I don't know what the rules state when your supposed touch moves the ball the width of a gnats testicle before you foul the opponent in a non aggressive manner.
It's certainly a rule that needs to be addressed.
Winning the ball and touching the ball are not the same thing.

Weak refs wait for VAR to spot things.
Idiots on VAR assume refs see everything and have called it.
Net result is a fucking mess with 13+ minutes of needless reviewing.
