The thing for me is Ref's are to afraid to make calls these days as they have the safety net of VAR, without VAR in the game that gets given every day, i also reckon that if thats the Gooners it also gets given by the Ref........
Yep, the refs hide behind VAR and then 9 times out of 10 VAR just backs the ref regardless. It was brought in to stop controversey and its made it 100 times worse as human error is now being backed by a system meant to weed it out. Trouble is now it wont be scrapped as its almost a cottage industry on its own.

from this point it looks as if the defender touched in not maddison -

No it doesn’t!

Because they wanted, desperately, to give Leeds a penalty, but they didn't want to give us one. They looked and looked and looked at theirs until they had enough to give it.
They gave ours a single glance, saw what they thought was a touch by the defender which got them out of jail and waved it away.
Fixed.

I don't think that's his official account. Nothing on his facebook or X accounts.

The ref can give a foul if the tackle is reckless or endangering the opponent, even if they win the ball.
I don't know what the rules state when your supposed touch moves the ball the width of a gnats testicle before you foul the opponent in a non aggressive manner.
It's certainly a rule that needs to be addressed.
Winning the ball and touching the ball are not the same thing.
Mate we're talking about one fucked up issue in a sea of fucked up rules and interpretations .

I've given up , don't enjoy watching football anymore because it has ruined it now and I just lose my shit at the level of incompetence .

Just playing devil's advocate but haven't we been screaming out for them to NOT look at each decision for a minute or more? Sometimes it feels like they're slowing everything down specifically to find something to penalise.

FWIW, I agree with you that this is one where they should have taken longer.
Mate VAR or actually the use of VAR is a shit show all round, whatever they do no one is gonna be happy with it.

The whole issue comes down to consistency or lack of it, t this point people are wanting penalties just because they have been given for other teams.

In this match though my gripe is down to the fact that they took 5 mins on the Tel incident (which was a pen) and waved this off in 20 seconds when they were both inconclusive.

The trouble is its making the sport shite! It will be interesting to see what its like at the world cup, as i'm adamant for the apparent "best league in the world" we actually have some 3rd rate officials! Why don't the FA look to get foreign Ref's who would have no affliations with clubs, or are we really meant to believe all these ref's grew up just following the likes of Oxford ?

this is where i'm at now as well, granted it probably doesn't help with us being so shit all season as well , but it seems like before VAR we might have a couple of really bad decisions over the course of a season, now it seems like every big game has them, The Everton West ham penalty that wasn't given, the Gabriel Headbutt to Haalanad, the West ham goal and the Maddision penalty, thats 4 that I can remember in the last month from games I have watched......

Add the Brobby/Romero/Kinsky incident to the list.

Fair enough - considering no one can see the side of the ball where maddison is meant to have touched it from this angle - no idea how anyone can be sure he touches it from this vid

inconclusive at best.

Would have loved a pen, but not convinced he touched it.
I'm not remotely convinced we would have scored a pen even if given.

What I'm more annoyed about is the pen being given for a Leeds player steaming in and headbutting Tel's foot. No, I'm not even kidding, Tel doing that was stupid, however, 2 seasons ago at Anfield when Joe Gomez attempted to decapitate Brennan Johnson in the area, it wasn't a penalty.

Fast forward to this season, and Tel overheading it at below head height whilst a Leeds player sprints in and goes head to foot now is a penalty?

I'm quite happy to sound like a conspiracy nut when I question, why are we always on the wrong end of these situations?

If you actually look, all the posts of it on his instagram page are from others who have tagged him.
His official page has the blue tick, the one with that post has a white tick.
I doubt he even knows his insta page is littered with that image/text yet.
Just checked my IG search history and his official page is the only one there. It was his official page that posted it. There is no reputable news source claiming otherwise, they’re all posting it. Alasdair Gold even confirmed it and he’s just the human mouthpiece of the club.
