Player Lucas Bergvall

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Our fans have been massively overrating Bergvall for the past couple of seasons. I think DeZerbi's recognised what he is, a young kid with bags of potential but not first 11 ready yet.

I think he either needs a loan or a season as a second choice/cup player.

With the MF upgrades everyone is clamouring for, at least 1 of him or Grey need a loan next season. Possibly both.

Though I think he's closer to being ready as a regular #8 for us than Grey is being a regular #6.

I have to admit I think I've been guilty of that. He is really talented so it's tempting to get carried away, and when he broke through the team was so shit he was a shining light.

But if you want to be a CM in the PL, the most ruthless division in the world, you just can't be as sloppy and reckless on the ball as Bergvall often is. And I think that's why none of our 3 managers have really trusted him in his best position this season.

Hard to see him being a regular starter next season under RDZ unless he makes massive progress in training, so I think in all likelihood he needs a loan. Feels weird to write as even a few months ago I thought him returning from injury could be key for our survival and a huge player moving forward, but in reality it was Bentancur who filled the hole in CM to keep us up.

Still maintain his ceiling is incredibly high and he could be a star one day, though.

I get what you are saying, but RDZ generally doesn't play with the type of 8 (ie 433 R8) that Bergval is. There's no way Bergval can play in a double pivot, he's a headless chicken without the ball and not exactly reliable with it.

I think both need to go on loan. I wouldn't even care if we sell them both.

He hasn’t been overrated.

Thomas Frank misused him horribly and his pathway was blocked when the club bought Gallagher.

We need to loan him out and recreate his pathway again.

This is such a terribly managed club and Bergvall is one example of that.

One notable factor against loaning him and Gray out is that if they stay here next season, they become homegrown at the club for European competitions. Making them essentially free picks for the rest of their (hopefully long) time at Spurs.

Reports of Bergvall's death are premature.
RDZ wanted experience for the relegation battle.
We won't be in one next season and Bergvall and Gray will be big players for us.
Exactly. In usual times we would have seen some cameos for the lad but just as with Gray, injuries demanded they were played. And my god how good were they.! Now’s the time to reset to what should have happened, keep them training with us, more importantly under de Zerbi than another coach. Give them time when it’s suitable and let them progress slowly but surely. There’s no doubt about the potential so let’s nurture it in house.
