Beat a relegated Wolves side 1-0, a Villa side that basically jacked it in and Everton who couldn't be bothered either.....you really think this side is capable of finishing top 7 lol? we've finished 17th for a very good reason.
he also has a full pre season to get his ideas properly in place and tweak the squad if the owners back him. The league is so close, Brighton made Europe and only 2 months back were getting sucked in to the relegation conversation. Leeds were only 6 pts off Europe.

So yeah I think 7-8th next season is possible. Breaking CL highly unlikely

In all honesty, at the time Tudor was sacked, did anyone see where we were getting 3 wins and 2 draws from? No chance. We were doomed, De Zerbi deserves all the credit for that. To get 11 points out of a squad this lacking in pace and attacking ability was a miracle.

Sunderland just finished 7th after getting promoted. Of course a European finish next season is perfectly achievable. Things can turn around very quickly, it’s only losers like Thomas Frank who think otherwise. The middle pack of the league are all a muchness, that’s why there were still so many teams in the hunt for Europe so late on.

You see, Matt is a Very Good PersonTM and needs to broadcast that at every opportunity, being the Very Good PersonTM that he is.

He also appears to be a psychic that can understand the motivations of a man he's never met. Some incredible bloke, that Matt.

As I said, injuries.
Yeah our strikers are pretty poor but for most of this season we've been playing second, or third choices.

You can "looool" all you like but that's just how I see it.
Chuck Madders, Deki, Xavi and Kudus into the team and it's instantly better.
I think any teams second choice forward line is going to be pretty suspect really and we've been relying on kids and a half arsed loanee for most of this season.
Our first choice striker is useless

If some of the injured players are available next season and along with, additional signings we could do well.
Once he can get his style down instead of firefighting, there is every chance of 6th-8th.
Look at utd, finished 16th last season and were mid table before Carrick came in.
Good management and playing people in correct position has got them 3rd.
So I think its very possible to get back our old top six position quickly if, the owners follow through on their part.

Hire a hardcore pressball manager, play once a week, fly up the table.

Make the European places, play twice a week, slide back down.

That's our next two seasons, then De Zerbi will be gone.

My expectations about signings is modest enough ,doubt we will attract really proven top players especially as we don't pay the wages they demand .Not sure how many can be let go with contracts etc but we could upgrade most of the team if the last league campaigns are anything to go by .It will most likely take us a couple of years to get to challenging the top end unless by some miracle the owners go or change their buying policy ,neither scenario appears likely .Hopefully the manager sticks with us for a few years for a start ,the signs are that he was a good choice .

Next year i think the league will be as competitive as ever however those saddled with Europe will suffer for it. Arguably all the top teams are imperfect and trying to rebuild themselves apart from goons but I think even they could get complacent and have their luck turn away from them.

Long story short I think RDZ will get the 2 or 3 top player he wants and we will mix it with the best. Certainly make a big jump above all teams upto Bournemouth so thats 6th off the bat.

Do you think so? I would like to think if Europe was on the cards again then surely squad improves to cope with this?
If we manage any kind of fitness (which itself gets easier playing once a week), with De Zerbi's tactics we aren't too far off 7th, partially because European strain will push Bournemouth, Sunderland and Brighton out of that competition.

But to be the kind of team that can sustain playing twice a week we're nowhere near, that would mean truly bridging the gap to the top 3-4 in total squad quality level and we've got no indication ENIC will invest to that degree.

Look at De Zerbi at Brighton, look at Iraola, look at Eddie Howe, these tactics are RADICALLY different when applied once a week versus twice.

That's a good point but one De Zerbi will need to negotiate around to sustain a challenge on both fronts.

"RDZ has been promised a squad that can compete at the very top [and full backing over multiple windows ] "

In what world did Xavi make the team instantly better?

Yep, we're going to put a few clubs back in their places next season.
(I'm always overly optimistic for a new season but this time I'm going all in!).
