I've occasionally dipped into their forum out of morbid curiosity over the years and one thing has been consistent over the entire Arteta era: even when they've been on the brink of titles and winning most of their games, a ton of their fans still think Arteta's a fraud and hate the guy. Maybe that's changed now but I was always a bit surprised at just how critical they were of him. Even this season many were openly talking about replacing him if they didn't win the league.Had a chat with my old roommate who is a Gooner but one of the rare decent ones. Said he's obviously grateful to Arteta for their first title in donkeys' years, but he still can't stand the bloke...finds him insufferable, rude, obnoxious, classless. Thinks a lot of their fans are cringe as fuck. Also openly admits they got protected all season and reckons it's easily worth 10-12 pts. Laughed at the fact UEFA picked that ref friend of theirs for the CL final. Obviously he had a right giggle at our troubles, but said the PL is better with us in it.

It's amazing that their Premier League win has been second rate news with not a great deal of air time about it.I like the fact that the beeb aren't giving it unending torrent of praise for goons, they had a couple of first-page articles and even they've dropped off now. Such a meh win, gifted by PGMOL.
Yeah, it looks like they've read the room and realised most people are fuming at the bullshit of it all. Their 'legacy' is tainted and I hope they are all being made aware of the stats that bear this out. They probably can't read numbers, so I don't hope for much. It's amazing that their Premier League win has been second rate news with not a great deal of air time about it.
I thought I'd have had it rammed down my throat watching and listening TV etc, but it's been really muted the coverage of their win.
Maybe they don't like Lego.I've occasionally dipped into their forum out of morbid curiosity over the years and one thing has been consistent over the entire Arteta era: even when they've been on the brink of titles and winning most of their games, a ton of their fans still think Arteta's a fraud and hate the guy. I think it's the issue for any club if you're winning but playing shit football and don't buy into the manager - unless you're winning pretty much every game then there's instant pressure from the fans. Saw the same on the Villa forum about Emre after our game with them - loads of them were sick of him cos their football was wank this season, even though they were in the Europa semis and on the brink of CL football. I'm sure they all love him now they've turned on the style and won a trophy, but 5 games ago many wanted him gone in the summer.
Football fans are really hard to please if the football they're watching isn't at least vaguely entertaining. Conte's second season here is another example. We were actually still doing fairly well in the league results-wise when he was sacked but loads of fans hated his guts cos the football was unwatchable.
What I want to know is what were the 4 times we alledgedly benefitted from VAR??

You are absolutley right, we need to learn how to conduct 8 fouls on every single offensive and defensive corner and somehow get away with it. We need to "learn" how to get zero red cards and penalties go against us for an entire season. They may be our biggest rivals, but we should stop slagging them off and learn from them. In the same season they have one the league and are in the CL final we go into the final game attempting to stay up.
Don't worry if you thought Woolwich got all the decisions this season (which they did) you ain't seen nothing yet.
Results can cover over the cracks and that is what Arteta has managed to do all season. They haven't evolved or become a better team. In fact they've completely hit their ceiling under Arteta and there seems to be no room for expansion or becoming a better team. The 1-0 home win against Burnley just summed up their season. And this was after getting 300m in invesment last summer (Hincaipe, Zubimendi, Madueke, Eze, Gyokores). They fell over the line in the end and were helped by the fact that City just weren't the City of old. I don't think they've gotten any better than they were in 2024 where they just missed out to a far superior City team. They've gone backwards imo.I've occasionally dipped into their forum out of morbid curiosity over the years and one thing has been consistent over the entire Arteta era: even when they've been on the brink of titles and winning most of their games, a ton of their fans still think Arteta's a fraud and hate the guy. Really hope you're right. My worry is they buy 1 or 2 genuinely world class attackers that mean their system doesn't even need to be that good. They'll just have the best defence and can grind out wins even easier. Results can cover over the cracks and that is what Arteta has managed to do all season. But I have to give them some credit. Their defence is just so good and gets them out of jail alot. I think I read that they've won around 14 games 1-0 this season! That is probably 14 poor performances where the team get scrutinized and booed if it ends 0-0 or 1-1 but because they got the result tit papaered over the cracks.
I'm quiet a pessimist in life and usually assume the worst, but I genuinely think the worst is over after next weekend. I just hope they don't win the CL. I think they'll regress next season. Even if they sign more players, I think Arteta has ran his race and has ran out of ideas. The PL title will cover over the cracks and could give him infinite time. But on most metrics, Woolwich are going backwards and I don't think they'll get away with the same football against next year.
I was drinking in the Nidderdale weekend in N- Yorkshire, only ever seen Leeds shirts in the pub, saw 3 fucking Gooners at the weekend! So many of their cunt fans out today. Must have been something on at their stadium. Can’t see how it was allowed with us being at home.
I think the worst is over after next weekend and I'm the biggest pessimist ever. I've been saying for years that it was inevitable that they were going to eventually win the league. They kept investing while City and Liverpool were falling off. I think they've hit their ceiling now. Also that hunger is hard to go again. I mean the amount of nonsense Arteta has them at every week between balancing pens and light bulbs. A 1% drop in hunger and I can only imagine how annoying Arteta becomes. I just think this is their peak and the regression is coming,Really hope you're right. My worry is they buy 1 or 2 genuinely world class attackers that mean their system doesn't even need to be that good. They'll just have the best defence and can grind out wins even easier.
Hopefully the league finally cracks down on the set piece nonsense once and for all at least. They've been getting away with murder and it makes the league shite to watch as other teams are encouraged to follow suit.
That's the thing, though...my pal was a Highbury regular, goes to the Emirates pretty much every game, got to know loads of fellow Gooners over the years...and he says that even those who used to be real decent fans are now behaving like twats. It ain't just kids on social media. Says to me Spurs have lost their identity for sure, but he hates what Woolwich has become. The banter is naturally always there but the Gooner colleagues and friends I know in real life aren’t insufferable. I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the biggest and most performative bellends are found on social media.
