Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's good enough to be a squad player and can cover left wing and up front as the 3rd choice.

I would keep Kudus as the right wing starter and Solanke and Tel as rotational options.

Xavi probably won't be registered first half of the season and doubts over Odobert and Kulu as well.

--------------------New (Solanke)------------
New(Tel)-------------------------------Kudus(new)

Thats what the front 3 should be imo with Kulu as the 7th option to those 6 above.

Not really disagreeing, makes sense - but I also think Tel is in desperate need of games, and am not sure he'll be getting them next season

Theres something about him I really like, Id definitely like to keep him - but I think Id be keen to loan him next season to see him develop

Issue is, if we loan him well need to buy 3 forwards in the summer, then have 2 more returning from an acl.

Currently we have

Richie, Solanke, Lankshere at striker - richie is getting sold, solanke deserves a chance under de zerbi, lankshere no clue if loaned, sold or will be backup,

LW - Tel, Solomon (buyout clause so likely going), Moore (will he loaned too?) Odobert (acl out till nov), Simons, (ACL out until March)
RW - Kudus, Kulu (will he even be back?)

So if you loan tel, sell richie we are basically left with Solanke, Kudus, maybe Kulu? Then a choice to make on moore and lankshere, but both likely worse than Tel. Tel can cover LW, Striker, as back up, so may get a good amount of minutes, so leaves us to sign a LW starter. But we are still in a weird position given the injuries.

I think Lankshear deserves a good looking at in preseason, could be ready for a place in the squad

And I think we all know we need to buy a couple to improve the first 11

Im not against keeping him, at all, I just want him to get enough football to develop, and cant help feeling thatll be better achieved on loan

If he’s starting every week, we’re probably in another relegation fight. Unfortunately, he’s pretty far down the list of folks that need to be moved on in my opinion.

Keep him around as a bench option and shift him once it’s clear Moore/Odobert/new signing(s) have usurped him. Maybe in Jan or next summer. He will still be young enough we should get most of our cash back.

He's a bit like Conor in that you cannot fault his effort or enthusiasm.....the same can be said about ball retention and yes he does burst a blood vessel to get the ball back but just look at how many times he loses it in a game.

He has to work out how to get past a player and taking the ball with him or risk getting moved on as we improve.

Loan him out, we need far better not only starting, but as a backup too. We need to get serious fast!

Having second rate players like Tel as one of our 'threats' is going to take us nowhere. We need a whole new front 3! maybe Kudus and Kulu can cover RW but we defo need a new LW and ST.

It would be nice if we had that option but as the poster said above, we don’t really have that luxury with Xavi out long term, Odobert out long term, who knows what happens with Kulusevski, needing to move on from Richarlison.

Loaning Tel leaves us pretty bone dry up front.

We have so many pieces to shift that are a higher priority imv. Selling/loaning Tel is pretty low on my list.

Buy a quality LW and have Moore as backup, Moore can't be any worse than Tel anyway, it's hardly a high bar for him. If we are going into next season with Tel as a starter then god help us.

The plan should never be to retain Tel as a starter but if we move on from Richarlison which I think we all agree should happen, going into next season we will have:

LW: Tel, Moore

ST: Solanke, Lankshear

RW: Kudus, maybe Kulusevski?

We need at least 2 signings AND to not lose anyone. Loaning Tel before the Jan window would be a mistake imv. Even if we include Richy, that’s a fucking bare bones attack and a relegation calibre attack at that.

Yeah, we need serious money invested into the front 3 this window, at the very least a LW and ST so that we can have something that looks like a decent front 3 when everyone's fit. Right now, even with everyone fit, we have some bog standard attack.

I am very underwhelmed by him. I totally have no impressions he was here with us since Feb last year and and any involvement of games with us under Ange. Our squad was so poor for 2 years since he was here and yet he hadn't grabbed it by the neck and make himself unplayable if he was deemed an exciting wonderkid.

Just sell him. Want someone who knows how to pass the ball while taking on defenders.

I don't rate the player at all but an energy off the bench role might suit him, it did at Bayern.

I don't think anybody is going to pay any real money for him at this stage.
I don’t think it did or he’d still be there. They had him long enough to know what they were dealing with and were happy to let him go. And I trust Bayern’s judgement a lot more than ours when it comes to players.

Tel wanted out because Tel wanted to play, and Bayern knew that they had a declining asset on their hands.

Tel still wants to play and will probably be unhappy with a bench role, and might push for a loan, but he seems a pretty hardworking character, I would trust he'd be a professional about it if we had him as a bench guy.

I’d loan him.

He’s got some great qualities that can impact a match, he can strike a ball brilliantly, whether it’s shooting, crossing or set piece delivery.

I like his mentality but he needs to play every week so he can iron out the rest of his game which is incredibly patchy to say the least.

I like Tel. He's direct and can beat his man from wide. He's also versatile and can do a job as a 9. Big potential. Probably has the highest ceiling out of every attacking player in our squad. I think his numbers will shoot up soon. He's one or two seasons away from going nuclear
