Player Andy Robertson

Bang on. Udogie has absolutely no finesse or culture when kicking a ball. Ever seen him put in a lovely curling cross? Picking out a player with a long pass? No chance.

All he does is get to the box and do a cut back along the ground. That's the sign of a poor technical player.

Honestly, some of the takes I see on here are surprising. Udogie is not technical in the slightest.
It's the controls he does with the outside of his foot and all that lol, it hoodwinks people.

Exactly that, he's one of the poorest in the squad when it comes to technical ability. Cant cross, struggles to play simple passes that are clean and crisp...that is not someone whos technical FFS lol. In fact it's a donkey!

It’s more about what we do in the rest of the window that’ll dictate how to feel about this…

If he’s one of a select few, very underwhelming. If we go on to make drastic improvements to the front line, acceptable.

Not a world beater by any means, but also not the worst idea.

Exactly how I feel, this signing doesn't dictate the window for me.

Come on admit it, how many have thought 'he's a real punchable face' when watching the dippers over the years lol

I think it's a good signing though.

We need more experience and players who have the right winning ATTITUDE.

Far too many in this squad play for themselves and don't really give enough for the team by playing for one another.

This guy definitely helps with building this aspect.

yeah we'll likely need to sign 7-8 players. We can't splash the cash on all of them. Maybe 3 top quality expensive signings for the front line and midfield, players that'll hit the ground running and cause immediate impact, a couple of experienced free agents (Andy and Senesi) and a couple of young talents that could develop into starters in the future. Plus Palhinha. I think we could get him from Bayern for around 15 million euros.

De Zerbi likes to have experienced players not just on the pitch but in the dressing room. He’s not just building a squad but a mentality and guys like Paulinha and Robertson are vital to move forward. Will Robertson play every week? Likely not but he’s still a better player than Udogie is now or will ever be. We should never turn our noses up at that type of experience. James Milner at Brighton is supposedly still the best trainer and never lets standards drop in every session. That only improves players and Robertson will bring that too if it’s true and he’s coming. At 33 he’s still a fit lad and not finished by any stretch of the imagination albeit I with it was the Robertson of 5 years ago we’d be getting.

If he can bring a professional and winning attitude to the squad then I'm all for it. I always felt that signing an end of the line Edgar Davids was the moment this club started getting a bit more serious about pushing for Europe. I guess Gullit had a similar effect with the chavs.
As long as the player is still hungry for success and not just collecting a pay cheque. Robertson doesn't strike me as a guy just here for a pay day
On the contrary, he might want to prove something.

Agree that he is a good signing for us for now but for how long? At 32, it, it seems like a plaster on a cut. His legs aren't what they were and he's almost at his sell by date and then we're back in the same position. We should be looking for a long term solution, no disrespect to Andy but for me, this is a niggling worry...

Liverpool fans feel he's done well this season so not sure legs have gone quite yet.

We are not going to fix all problems with long-term solutions this window, this is a good patch-up job for a year. We need forwards that have actual ability and can win us games now, the bulk of cash needs to go into attack. If you can get a LB like Robertson for free, you take it. Deal with the LB problem next summer, then hopefully the attack is sorted and we have cash to chuck at LB.

Agreed

This is an opinion but many, myself included have a different view.
The Robertson we are getting isn't the same Robertson that bombed up and down the left for Klopp's Liverpool when they were at their peak. The Robertson we are getting is not a better player than Udogie. For all the hate we seem to get right now it's worth remembering that for much of the season without Udogie we were utter shite. We had much better balance when he came back into the side and were able to win a few games. I actually think people are being harsh on Udogie. In his first season under Ange he was decent. 2 goals, 3 assists, 87% pass completion, 68 tackles, 150 duels won, 37 interceptions. I think RDZ can unlock his ceiling much like Ange did and if he does, he's an order of magnitude better than 32 year old Roberson. But hey, that's my opinion.

Seems a clever signing, especially if Davies leaves and Palhinha's loan isn't made permanent...
He's an experienced winner, seen it all... Won't be DEMANDING to start, but can - like Madison - add quality and an older, calmer head amongst what might be quite a young looking defence, IF you consider Vicario, Romero and Porro could yet leave...

Makes so much sense.

Obviously we need to reinforce EVERYWHERE else, but this is a good start!
