I really just don't rate him much as an 8 to be honest. It can work in certain games, but his career best form imo was always playing as a 10 for Chelsea with Palmer on the right, or as a 10 for Palace. All his best performances for us have also been in that role.

He's passable deeper, and will get minutes there for sure, but I just think he's bang average in CM.

Well, if that is the case, do you see him permanently overtaking Maddison in the CAM role?

Would you see him being long-term content with us not being a first choice starter at either the 8 or the 10?

Current Spurs 26/27:

ST: Solanke, Richarlison, Lankshear
RW: Kudus
LW: Odobert, Tel, Moore
CAM: Maddison, Simons
CM: Gallagher, Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall, Gray, Devine, Olusesi
CDM:
RB: Porro, Spence
LB: Udogie, Robertson, de Souza
RCB: Romero, Vuskovic, Danso, Dragusin, Phillips
LCB: Van de Ven, Senesi
GK: Vicario, Kinsky, Austin

I at least am feeling good about the bolded bits. Undeniable upgrade in depth from where we were before.
Looking forward to what comes from here- we need RW depth, a LW starter, and a CDM to help us hold the middle.

Di Zerbi is on record saying he only rates 10-12 of them good enough to stay. Assume he wasn't talking about those out on loan.

My assumption is that Spence, Udogie, Romero and Porro will be moved on for decent fees. Sarr, Richarlison, Dragusin leaving for fees below market value. It also wouldn't surprise me to see Kudus seek a move to play Champions League football - Although I doubt anybody meets his release clause.

To be successful in modern football, you need a world class CDM. Holjberg and Palhinha kept Spurs head above water but weren't the level that will be required. We need our own Kante, Rice, Rodri.

Oh, and I wonder if Spurs will be the club to offer Foden a path out of City......

Gallagher?

I think De Zerbi loves him. Maddison and Bergvall are the ones we’re yet to see what De Zerbi thinks about long term.

Yeah for now, he's used him for what he's needed to use him for becsuse needs must and practically blown smoke up the arse of every player so I wouldn't put too much stock in that, no way he survives in his team in the long term, he's not good enough on the ball.

With mitoma having just 1 year on his contract I think he will leave Brighton this summer. Bringing mitoma and savinho both in for that left hand side would sort that position out really well. Mitoma should be decent price too probably around 30m.

Mitoma has back, ankle, foot, and hamstring problems. 4 injuries last season alone.

He probably needs to leave the Prem to prolong his career

I honestly don't know tbh. I imagine they'll play a fair few games together - since Maddison drops deep quite a lot to get on the ball maybe De Zerbi will come up with a system where they can dovetail and we get the best of both worlds with them rotating positions? Gallagher in the 10 out of possession, Maddison in the 10 in possession?

Longer term I just don't see a world where Gallagher's a guaranteed starter if we have real ambitions of challenging for stuff, but it's a squad game these days so maybe he doesn't need to be? Or maybe he'll leave in a season or two if he's not happy with his minutes?

I thought about the idea of a double 10 type thing with Maddison too- It'll be interesting to see what happens, no doubt. I appreciate your thoughts. Since we got Bergvall I have been hoping he would be our future 8. I'm trying to unattach myself from wanting that so much now though.

Yeah I'm also having to wean myself off the Bergvall hype train. Sadly think he may well be loaned or even sold when I was convinced he was on the brink of exploding not very long ago. Suppose looking good in the end-to-end chaos of Ange-ball (while losing most games) doesn't necessarily translate to managers that want real discipline and structure in the midfield.

De Zerbi is the one that wants him apparently
Can see Rashford being another Adebayor type if we sign him. Looks brilliant under a specific coach when he's motivated, but becomes a nightmarish, expensive waste of space if/when the manager moves on or things aren't going his way.

Just can't see him being happy here when his dream is playing for Barca - we need guys that desperately want to play for Spurs, not Kolo Muani types that see us as a payday/last resort.
