Nah, I actually think Marinakis would never sell him to us now. He's too proud and stubborn. Like he said, "We always win". Selling him now would make him look weak.

We triggered a release clause and he still refused to sell.

This one is dead in the water IMO.

He's a businessman, pay the money and he will come, it's not that deep.

The problem is now they can ask for a lot and I'm sure their intention was to sell at their price which was higher than what was in the release clause.

Fair enough!

If he does go to Sporting then it’s because he’s either extending his career or looking to dial it back a bit
Spursidol is right. ABola is full of shite. They love coming up with these little transfer-window soap-operas, but most likely the only thing they do know is that there is interest from Sporting. Everything else has likely been pulled out of their arses. I think Sporting are probably waiting to see how things go with us. They're not in the habit of paying large sums for players over 30. I don't think they'd be willing to offer Bayern anything over 10 million euros, and they would only reach this value (significant, by Portuguese standards) because João is a club legend. If we really want him, I believe we could get him for €10–15 million, as Bayern seems really interested in offloading him and no one else has displayed interest in the player (maybe Fulham, later in the window, once they sort out their manager situation).

It really is just business, don't overthink it.

When you offer way below someone's valuation of course you'll get these overreaction.

If they want 80 million to sell, and we offer it they'll take it.

You are correct. The reason Forest and Marinakis kicked off, was because we were trying to take advantage of a clause and sign their star player and captain for much less than market value. Essentially mugging them off.

It would be a different story if we put 80 or 100 million on the table. Now I am not saying he's worth that money, (IMO I actually think he is), but the reality is it was a typical Levy way of operating. Try and sign players where we can do deals on the cheap and get value as opposed to saying "that's the player we need, go out and get him no matter what".

You'll notice City aren't trying to do a deal for Anderson on the cheap. They will put £100 million down and they’ll sign him.
That is how a top club operates. The issue for us is that means they don't need to sell any more players, so once they sell Anderson, they'll just say MGW is not for sale at any price.

We will see if we act like a proper club this summer or if it is all talk. We should identify top targets and pay the money needed. That is what City do, and all the other big clubs.

It's an ok start (still not confirmed yet).
One is replacing Ben Davis and will likely to split time with Udogie which means Souza will need a loan.
Senesi is all left foot so assume he is VDV's replacement.
Which means we need another left sided CB to cover Senesi
Vuskovic will hopefully start in Romero's place and Danso becomes his backup.
Dragusin surplus to requirements so Phillips can be 5th choice CB.
Sensei is VDV replacement?????

Who said VDV was leaving????

Let’s see what goes down then

If we do want him, and he wants to stay in the peak years of his career, he’ll stay at Spurs

Explain how they tried to get the best striker on the planet cheap then?

It wasn’t trying to mug Forest off.We offered his release clause.
