it's not easy to work out what Napoli's revenue would have been in 1984 as it's not publicly tracked, but by and large I think it's safe to say clubs were almost entirely reliant on ticket sales and merchandise for revenue at that point, TV money wasn't a thing until the 90s, I don't think it's absurd to say that it could be well in excess of £300m even when adjusting up to the monopoly money involved in the Neymar transfer given howe much larger a % of the revenue of even the richest club in the world £7m would have been at the time. I still don't think it's really possible to track as so many modern transfers have been essentially financed externally, I think we would only really be breaking the £100m mark a few years ago if PSG hadn't completely fucked the market. I do think it's a bubble that has to burst eventually, it simply can't be sustainable for clubs to take such colossal financial losses on singular players when they are being held accountable for where their financng comes froum.

We've had a few summers under Levy where we made some early moves (Conte and Ange's first windows spring to mind) but never to the tune of 90-100m, which is approx what Savio and VH would cost.
