I think Poch is doing ok with Lamela: he had a very good game against the Scum: Not flashy but hard working and he contributed. He will come good!
Agreed. Erik kept a lot of attacks going by making the right pass or taking out the right Woolwich player. He was also getting himself into very good shooting positions in the box, but people weren't passing to him when he was. He's doing a lot of the right things, but not getting the ball at the moment. If he does, he will definitely be scoring a bunch more.

I can't fault anyone from Saturday. The Woolwich goal was a bit of a fluke. If Giroud actually shot properly, it was straight into Hugo's arms. Complete luck it went to Ozil instead.

Outside of that, everyone was making a huge effort to press, tackle, win balls and pass forward. He's got this team playing a very attractive, hard-working game. We're still quite rough-around-the-edges, but you can see the plan, and the plan does work.

He has proven to be the right choice, and has kept the promise he made in the summer to give us a team we could be proud of.

I can see now why he trusts young player so much, his belief is that we must work like dogs to become the fittest team in the league and it's easier with young players to get up the speed and fitness I guess.

Players like Bentaleb and Mason yesterday ran Woolwich into the ground, it was relentless. Although Poch brings new ideas he is very much a Spurs man, attacking quick football is what we are historically known for, he has added a modern pressing system to that, so much better and more Spursy than AVB.

I loved his quote, "We are a club. And when you sign a contract as a player, you need to understand that you don’t sign to play, you sign to train"

I agree with this too. He isn't massively underperforming at all. Ok he hasn't yet 'terrorised defences' but in place of this, he is working damn hard for the time, running all over the place, implementing Poch's high pressing game. It's not like he's a passenger.

I'm convinced that his confidence will grow, and when that happens, watch him rape some defences.

Until then I'm just delighted to see he's not only part of our team, but enjoying being a part of it too.

Viva Lamela, bitchios.

Indeed. Seems like Lamela is still a bit skittish in these Premier League games (though far better than before) and focuses quite a lot on helping out the rest of the team rather than himself.

A bit more swagger and self confidence, and I can see Lamela producing the goods. Onto Poch to get that out of him!

One of the best things to me is that he sold the players on his system. He taught them how to be strong mentality and proved that hard worked paid off. A lot of reports suggested that he worked the players harder this preseason than they have ever worked before. Couldn't have been an easy sell.

Now we are starting to see the fruits of their labor. You see which players bought in and which players didn't and shame on those players who didn't because Poch has gotten the best out of a lot of the players that did.

I hope he has a long stay here, because i really look forward to him developing and molding the young talent we have.

Yep, he is doing well, much better compared to what he was doing 3-4 months back. But I still feel he has the potential to become someone as good as Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of his skill (maybe not in terms of scoring). It is all about reputation nowadays. When Hazard gets the ball, the defenders are shaking in their boots and the opposition fans will be worried that he is going to do something special. Even if he has quiet days, everytime he gets the ball, people are worried.

Lamela can get to that level. All he needs to do it mug a couple of defenders and watch his reputation grow. If you think about it, anyone with a good fitness level can do what 70-80% of Lamela is doing currently. Although he does make a good pass once in a while, he is much more capable than that.

I feel he is still only 30-40% there in terms of his potential. The moment he gets to a good run of form by scoring a few goals and mugging defenders (his dribbling is actually good if he goes on the outside rather than coming inside and getting stuck with 2-3 defenders closing him down), he is going to be another attacking force for us.

He needs to get better off the ball. He's much better when he stays out wide and drifts in rather than hanging inside all the time. I'd love him to make some more runs off the ball and get behind defenders. He has the quality to become a scorer. He was getting into a lot of dangerous areas vs the Scum Saturday, but thrashes his opportunities. He needs to starting thinking more like a Forward than a midfielder. Eriksen, Mason, and Bentaleb are all capable of picking him out on runs.

To be honest, I was shocked how well he did defensively Saturday. He would make you cringe every time he went in on a challenge. Saturday he had a couple of great tackles, one really nice slide tackle, and some interceptions. I really think Walker getting back into form will really help him as well.

I think we need to see where this everywhere we go train takes us...what's mega is that it works perfectly with Mauricio, mopo, and pochettino, the sky is not even close to the limit with this tune

-Everywhere he goes, everywhere he goes

-Its Mauricio, going toe to toe, everywhere he goes
.Going, standing, stepping

-Its Mauricio, puttin on a show, everywhere he goes

-Its pochettinos boys, bringin the noise, everywhere he goes
.Its mopos boys or its Mauricios, boys...

You get the impression that this is told to players when we are in talks to sign them, he wants to bring in players that fit with the club's new ethos.
Southampton are still benefiting from his prior work this season even though he has left. I hope that Poch stays a long time, really we can offer him everything you'd think. Enough money, enough quality in players, great facilities, London, CL if he and the team are that good (which I think they are) and then you have to say that if another club came for him there is no reason why he would want to go really. Here he can show it is all about him, that he can transform us and thus become a legend. If you go to say Real, Citeh, Chelski, Manure, you simply have the toys and follow the footsteps of others who are considered greats. Anyway, whatever does happen I am just enjoying it right now, the last time I felt any confidence in a manager was Redknapp, but this feels much more secure than that.

Can be poisoned chalices, too. Someone like Mourinho can thrive at teams like that, as he seems good at getting big-name players and mercenaries to do what he wants. Often by creating an unpleasant 'us vs. them' mentality, with negative footballing tactics.

But imagine what would happen if Poch tried telling Ronaldo to put in more a shift in training or risk not getting picked. He's a great manager imo, but really seems to flourish with a team where there aren't big egos.

We've dropped our most egotistical players, and just look at how we're performing without them.

I agree. My point was that at best things work out and you are just another manager to those clubs, no better than those before you. As you point out, it can go a lot worse than that too and you can be labeled a failure when really you are very good but inherited a toxic squad, or at least a club/squad not willing to back you and do it your way.

Everything is set up for Poch at Spurs and I agree that he gets the most out of young, willing and malleable players and Spurs have those kinds of players coming through our youth system but with the potential and ability that he can turn them into stars.

Hoping that Poch sticks around long enough to see what he can do with Azzaoui. Sounded like another good game for him against Man U in the U18s FA Cup this evening!
:pochohshit:

Poch gets a lot of well-deserved credit for molding young players into top class performers. But I don't think he gets enough praise for the work he does improving established footballers. For example, I can't believe how much Moussa Dembele and Danny Rose have improved this year. You could always see the talent in them and that was the most maddening part. They are both playing better than I ever thought they would. I give Poch so much credit for turning these guys' careers around.

Dembele has made some positive strides. If Poch can get him to start scoring. I will be amazed and in awe.
