If I'm Adrian and Kane is taking a very late penalty against me I'm going right. Kane loves the left side of goal from open play and has had most of his penalties to the right side of goal blocked.
That's a different story. It wasn't a great penalty, but he drew it when we were attacking in the final seconds. WH couldn't deal with it - they didn't do their job - we did.

We had the ball in their box, and Harry drew the penalty. The ball could have been anywhere on the pitch, and from WH's point of view it should have been - that isn't luck.

I'm not suggesting we didn't.

My original point is that West Ham bossed us until we scored. Up until that match I don't recall anyone else having our number quite like they did. Our loss to Citeh was pretty much down to bad refs, so I don't count that one. Since West Ham we have struggled much more and I would definitely say that it's because we've been pressed ourselves and not allowed to counter high up the pitch (in part).

We had a bad day- we got a point - and I got covered in beer. Stop being so picky :pochlol:

West Ham came in the middle of a crazy run of games, though. We were dead on our feet.

I find the Utd loss much more annoying, because we were well-rested, but our midfield and right back weren't mentally in it.

That can be partly down to tactics, and partly down to Utd pressing well, but the players need to have a look at themselves after that one.

I do think we need a genuine 3-man midfield though, rather than going 4-2-3-1. Bentaleb and Mason are too easy to over-run on their own. When Dembele came on as a third midfielder we were suddenly much tougher to break down.

The damage had already been done, but it showed what we'd needed to do in the first place.

This isn't a direct criticism of Poch, as I think he is what we need right now, and the upgraded version of AVB we were always looking for... but more a question of why many of the Managers we've had in recent years don't seem to have a Plan 'B'...? Is it because they're so confident of their Plan 'A' working more often than not, that we don't need another option... or is it a lack of tactical versatility?

Yeah, but we had no threat going forward either. I think United was just a fluke. We need to learn from it, but I think changing up the system with only 9 games to go isn't the best idea.

I don't think he has the players for a Plan B - what would you do for a Plan B? I'm interested to know because there isn't much we can do. At times he's changed our style to 4-4-2 in games and it hasn't really worked. He's at times changed players around, such as putting Eriksen central midfield and this has actually worked at times, seeing us winning games late on.

I don't think it would be changing the system too much, since arguably our two best performances, both offensively and defensively, came with a 4-3-3 using Dembele as the 10. (West Brom away and NLD home).

It sacrifices our LW, since it means Eriksen will be there instead of Nacer, but I think for the sake of not getting our bowels gutted, I'll make that sacrifice.

Still don't really know why Dembele was ever dropped. Chadli came back from his bereavement and was suddenly back in the team after a few weeks, which was a shame. I mean before the horrible incident, Chadli was brilliant, his performance against Chelsea in particular was outstanding, but Dembele didn't deserve to be dropped. Our best performances as a whole this season have all involved Dembele (some forget he came on for Mason early in our decimation of Chelsea)

Here is a problem I have with Poch (and generally the culture at Tottenham)
After this weekend matches
Liverpool 2 point below 4th. Brendan Rogers = "We want to get second place" HE IS NOT EVEN FOURTH AND ABOUT TO GO TO OT NEXT WEEK
Tottenham 6 points below 4th. Poch = "4th place difficult". WE HAVE 9 MATCHES TO GO WITH 5 REALLY WINNABLE ONES

I know being 6 down looks worse compared to 2, but don't say this, even if you think it motivates players (I don't think it does) Liverpool had one great season last year and their manager is acting like an arrogant jerk and dares to talk about SECOND PLACE!!!!!!!! and our manager seems to already concede the battle....Did Koeman say this?????????????
And hence Adebayor comes out and say "Only Kane can save us"...Happy Mr. Poch? The tone in the locker room is set now, 9 matches to go, let's finish the season and get ready to HOLIDAY!!!!!....

The last 20 so years have totally changed the culture to an extent someone like Gary Neville says "We always know one thing about Tottenham when we play them....THEY ARE WEAK!!!!!!!" .. I believe many of you heard him say it recently when commenting/analyzing on one of our matches....

I want my manager/coach to be arrogant, confident jerk, and dares to challenge the whole world and not cave in with the tiniest bump.....

Bill Nicholson quote:
"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

"Spurs have got to be the best in the land, not the second best."

"There's no use being satisfied when things are done wrongly. I want perfection. "

Club slogan? "To Dare Is to Do"

Go read the club history man and know what you are managing .. I know it's your first season, not all players fit your system, but SET THE TONE man, establish the culture...let everyone know what we are here for ......

I'd be way more happy if he came and said "WE WILL WIN THE REMAINING 9 MATCHES" and lose all of them than say "4th is difficult" ...

With respect... are you mad?

I think Plan B is hard because it goes completely against someone's instincts. I also think that it can be very hard to see exactly what change will work because of how much things inter-relate. Football players aren't mechanical parts, so it's very much an art form.

I do hope Pochettino learns more about this, and he has made changes which work in some games. I think his first change in the Utd game was correct, and it made us much more competitive. I do feel frustrated that he didn't think of that from the start, but I think he wants to show faith in the team, and Mason and Bentaleb had 8 days of rest after a really good game against QPR. It made sense to show them trust. It just unfortunately turned out to be misplaced.

You're welcome to worship bullshit artists if you like. I prefer Pochettino, Koeman and Pellegrini taking a more measured, and realistic look at things.

Neville didn't say that, SAF did, according to Keane. And we are not that team anymore. We lost yesterday, but utterly smashed a Chelsea side who should have beaten us, and embarrassed Woolwich. We have had a massive number of come back wins this year. We aren't a team that rolls over anymore. We are a young team which makes mistakes as we learn, but over time these mistakes are going to grow fewer as players mature.

Fuck plan B. It's bollocks. If Plan A works - ie 3-0 up after 40 minutes, it's all cushty no?

I can't believe some of the shit I'm reading on here. It's very fair to criticize Poch if you don't think he has a Plan B. (I think we have too much shit on our bench to have an effective Plan B.) It's very fair to criticize him for not rotating the squad sufficiently. (I think our bench is too shit for much effective rotation.) But don't criticize him for us having the temerity to win and draw matches in the waning minutes! What the fuck stupid kind of thinking is that? That's largely what's made this such a marvelous season. Enjoy the ride.

Plenty of obvious omissions there.

Fact is, the teams above us are playing better football, maybe thats because they have better managers!
Or because they have MUCH better players. I'm sorry, but you are absolutely deluded, if you believe that we have a squad, that is on par with the teams above us. Looking down our strongest starting 11 our squad is BANG average... Imo we're lucky to be in this position, and it's down to the manager.
