We talk about how 'creative' he is, yet he only has 2 assists in the league, 5 in total. Last year he had 9 in the league and 16 in total. Take away free kicks from this season and Eriksen has done very poor indeed. An attacking midfielder needs to offer far more than that, I feel.
But performances have clearly shown that when played on the left he is increasingly better. This season his best form was when he was on the left and he was linking with Dembele.
And of course there is last season when he got assists and goals. Mainly from the left where defenders can't read his runs.
Why exactly are you ignoring the countless games he was excellent on the left? His best position is behind the striker. Stop playing him on the left or right. Just like Ozil at Woolwich, play him on the flank and he is shit.
Eriksen is an immensely talented player but he has taken his foot off the gas and has been putting in some very lazy performances, in my option. He just needs a bit of competition, we've seen it with Rose this season.
Players shouldn't need the threat of another player taking their place to be a motivator, but for some players that's all it takes.
With all this said, I'm assuming signing some competition WILL be a motivator for Eriksen and he won't just say "fuck this, I wanna leave" ...
If you measure just the topline goals and assists, he looks like he's bad. If you look at the process, not the results, then he's much stronger. He should have a lot more than 2 assists, but has been the victim of shooters wasting changes he's created for them. That's not really something you can blame on him.To be perfectly honest, who would splash out a huge amount of cash for him? He's over-rated, by himself and by football fans. United, City and Chelsea all have players of the same type who are superior and consistent.

Because the majority of his best performances have come from the left. I don't see how anyone can deny it, whether that is this season or last season. How many times does someone have to say and prove it?Play him on the left???
:kaboullol:
One of the best number 10's in the league and people want to play him on the left. Never change Tottenham. Never change.
I find this whole discussion very odd/scary to be honest. The way some are posting it's as if Eriksen has never played on the left and we're debating trying a player in a new role....totally ignoring the fact that he played most of last season there and did exceptionally well (scoring, assisting and generally playing excellently) and this season he's had some really good games on the left (more than he has in any other position). How very odd.Because the majority of his best performances have come from the left. I don't see how anyone can deny it, whether that is this season or last season. Lazy performances?
Jesus, he's in the absolute top of PL players for distance covered.
