Never a top player? How daft are you?

He was the main striker and topscorer for Valencia, who came 3rd two seasons in a row while he was there, only beaten by Real and Barca.

He scored 17, 18 and 24 league goals in the three seasons there.

Fuck me.
To answer your question...i'm not daft at all.

He was NEVER close to being a "top player". Did you actually watch La Liga? as opposed to looking at Youtuble clips and stats and forming your opinion from that alone?

Despite an impressive goal return he had too many limitations to his game at Valencia to ever be considered a "top player". He was a poacher who missed an awful lot of clear cut chances (i said this before he came here). He was also the sort of player that would go missing in 4 games and then suddenly bang in a hat trick, then proceed to go missing again. I will say that his overall link up play is better than it ever was at Valencia but deary me ..."top class"

Out of interest, where did you say this before he came to Tottenham?

:townhmm:

This forum, and this thread in particular is top quality entertainment. It's gotten to a point where I don't come here to read discussions on transfers, but more about the endless arguing and shit-throwing. I love it.

I watched (and watch) a lot of games from La Liga, I've lived in Barcelona and I've never seen a youtube clip with him - but kudos on the childish youtube-cliché and the "i told you guys so" - what a man you are.

Soldado scored 0(!!!) league hattricks in his top season (24 goals) and a total of 3 league hattricks while at Valencia. So there goes your theory. Soldado has been very well renowned in Spain for years but has unluckily been in the shadow of Villa and Torres internationally in a 1-striker Spanish team.

For some reason it hasn't worked out here (at all) but neglecting his former accomplishments is stupid.

He consistantly had one of the highest conversion rates in the world while playing for Valencia. He was pretty damn close to being considered one. I watched a ton of Valencia's games because I loved watching Soldado play so much and you must not have watched closely if you didn't think he was impressive.

Its not like Valencia had amazing players and were miles above everybody else like Barca and Real. He was able to keep scoring despite the team losing Mata, Alba, and having Feghouli, Pablo Hernandez, Jonas, Pablo Piatti, and Andres Guardado supplying him from the wings. Not exactly names that will get you excited. He may not be in the best strikers in the world gruop, but he fit their system perfectly, was very very good, and put up top class numbers. If we played more to his strengths when he came here maybe he might've been able to do the same for us.

Childish? this coming from the guy asking how daft someone is because their opinion differs from their own. Cyber thugging is not my thing.
My point was that he was a streaky striker...not score for a while then go on a run...then not score again. He also missed easy chances at Valencia (just like he's done here).

Yeah, childish. It is a childish fucking cliché drawing the "youtube card" when someone disagrees with you.

And have a look at your initial post, it's a bunch of cocksure, hindsight crap. And wrong. That's why.

And even Messi misses easy chances ffs. What does it matter when he bagged 24 league goals + the fastest ever Champions league hattrick that year? That's a top player for you right there.

Is that a genuine question? ok i'll answer...
Harry Kane is not a streaky striker and rarely misses chances that he should be putting in.

I'm not gonna belittle our hero's amazing PL season, but Harry scored less league goals in more games than Soldado in his last season for Valencia. A lot of Harry's goals were tap-ins as well, he went missing some games (you might remember) and he missed some big chances as well.
He still became a top player that season.

Everybody misses a few chances though. Even the best strikers don't have a perfect clear change conversion rate. He scored on almost 25% of his shots if I recall correctly, which is amazing. I think only Messi had better. And Danoir showed that he wasn't streaky. You don't score 24 goals in a season without scoring a hattrick without being consistant.

You might have been able to predict that he'd do poorly because it was easy to see when he got here that we didn't supply him with enough chances. But saying that he wasn't a top player in la liga is just plain wrong.

Would find it really hysterical if we signed no one else all window. The wobbly we'd all throw would be epic.

The amount of egg on our faces if it actually worked would be even funnier.

Soldado has been unbelievably bad for Tottenham Hotspur. He is terrible now and has been since the minute he got off that Ryanair flight in London. It hardly matters whether he was mud at Valencia, but there can be no doubt that he has been here. In fairly limited opportunities, the guy has somehow managed to miss an incredible number of tap ins. I am a fan of the way the guy seems to carry himself as a person, but christ almighty, it's time for him to go.
