It's 10 days till the season starts. Nobody can honestly say our squad is stronger than that which finished last season. We are on the brink of going into a new season with the weakest squad since 2008, but with the healthiest bank balance in English Football. Why are so many still defending Levy's transfer policy. It's fucking laughable really.

Read a bunch of places the Soldado deal was 16 million plus 10 mill of add-ons. Guessing Soldado didn't hit those add-ons. Who knows if that is true.
I don't think we ever paid 26mil. From the get go it was always said to be an incentives based fee, looking at how he performed I doubt he rang all the bells on the 26mil fee.Levy is going to eat 16 million?

Think Soldado fee was payable in 3 installments, and included add ons, so was never really £26m yet. Tbh, I'd be happy getting anything above £7m for him.Levy is going to eat 16 million?

Mate I get your point and clearly some of us are frustrated with not getting key signings finalised. I think we have strengthened defensively with the personnel / numbers we have signed, even if one of the 3 is for depth it gives us better options and more flexibility than last season.
Midfield and attack is a different story. It seems as though we've been 'selling to buy' which whilst isn't ideal, leaves us in a decent position to get fees for the crap we don't want. We have a pretty robust wage structure in place which I don't see changing any time soon, so from that point of view it makes sense to clear the decks before making any signings.
You are right though, the season is 10 days away and in those areas we look no better than last season. One thing counting for us would be continuity and an extra year of experience, probably invaluable to the likes of Mason and Bentaleb. I think the squad is pretty well knit and they know how to play with each other. We've seen too much upheaval quickly can have a pretty crap impact.
So yeah, maybe chill a little bit. Not everything is as bad as you're making out and we're clearly (well hopefully anyway) going to be making some moves with regards to incoming transfers soon. It isn't ideal, even the manager said a few months back he wanted business done early but then life isn't always that easy.
If come the end of August we haven't obviously strengthened in key areas then I'll be very surprised and I, like many others I suspect, will be just as frustrated as you are.

The add ons were based on his likability as guy rather than his footballing ability. Sadly it turned out he was sound so we had to pay up.
