We all know those rugby qunts will turn up against us and Begovic will have an extra-terrestrial performance, growing an extra arm to pull off a triple penalty save in the last minute to deny us the points.

We'd have 24 shots, 75% possession, 56 corners (all straight to the keeper), etc.

And then they'll score on the counter

Agreed until penalty.

We don't get penalties.

Don't forget that chelsea still need to play Man city, Everton, Swansea, Man united, Liverpool and spurs.

Que Torres scoring 12 goals in an amazing run of form only to regress back to shit in August and be sold for scrap in Russia in January

I higher perch from which to fall.

We also lost our 33rd and 34th games, so a point in any of our next two would bring us level with out point total last season.

I think it's gonna come down to GD... and we all know where that leaves us!

That surprised me actually, when last season is considered to be so disasterous

the end of last season is considered a disaster. The beginning (after the first two games) was incredible.
Although you could argue we had a better squad and 1st eleven with modric and vdv. But that's another story.

On balance we did finish where our average form (as in the average of our form, not average in a negative sense) should have left us. It's just that the emotions were skewed by having an uncharacteristically spursy run of 10 wins in 11 followed by a run of really bad results.

This season we had a 12 game unbeaten run but that didn't yield 10 wins. We also took much longer to get going at the start. It's been a lot more frequently up and down this season as opposed to one massive peak followed by the biggest trough ever.

Definately when you compare Dempsey to VDV :avbfacepalm:

The way we played first half of last season is still yet to be seen under AVB. The fluidity isnt there, but as you point out, big players left, and new players are gelling (or crap in some cases).

Anyway, I was still surprised that we are worse off than this time last year, with only 6 games left.

A massive 3 points against City, 3 points more than we gained last season's early battering which now seems a life time ago. The much needed points puts AVB's Tottenham +2 points ahead of last season's fixture-for-fixture and +2 points better off 33 games into the season.

So 2 points ahead of last season, surely it's looking good for top 4? Unfortunately whilst bettering our points total last season would be good, we are competing against teams that are also set to score more than they did a year ago. On our current path +2 points would leave us on 71 points which could be enough but if current form of our rivals is anything to go by then we will need something like 74 points. Our poor goal difference is also a factor, something like 13 goals behind means we have to score more points than our rivals.

4 wins and a draw will give us 74 points, a tough ask considering we have to go away to teams fighting for survival and a trip across London. If we are to make top 4 we either have to go on a mad end of season run beating every team we play or watch as other teams drop points and make it slightly easier for us.
