Impossible to give it a rating until we see the signings perform.

Perisic is an upgrade. Bissouma too.

At this rate we may never know about the rest.

I’m more concerned with Conte’s view on the players brought in. Seems to have very little confidence in any except Perry. Either that or a stubborn belief in last years group
You could say that about any transfer window.

No harm in rating the window based on what you think we could / should / have / Haven't done to strengthen the squad or first XI over the Summer.

It's an annual tradition that goes back years.

If Iook at what we needed at the start of the window and rate each individually...

Competition up for Kane - We brought someone in that is the right level to start straight away, that has all of the right attributes we need and is proven in the league and ban be competition for Son. 9/10.

An attacking player that can carry the ball at pace and has end product (a Lucas upgrade) - We didn't bring in anyone. 5/10.

An attacking player that is creative and can dribble in tight spaces, bonus poiunts for being able to play in a CM3 - We didn't bring in anyone, but at least we didn't send Gil on loan again. 6/10.

Another competent CM that can play in Conte's CM2 - We brought someone in that is the right level to start straight away, that has most of the right attributes we need and is proven in the league. 8.5/10.

A quality LWB - Not only did we bring in possible the best LWB in the world last year, but we also brought in a youngster with very high potential. 10/10.

A quality RWB - Didn't upgrade the 1st 11, but brought in a high potential youngster with possibly the right attributes, that is also HG without getting rid of a RWB. 7/10

Upgrade at LCB (must be a ball player) - Brought someone in that is experienced, was once world class and still is world class on the ball (for a CB). would have been an 8 if there was an option to buy. 7/10.

Competition up for Dier - We didn't bring in anyone. 5/10.

Back up GK - Brought in an PL experienced HG on a free. 8/10.

Sell Players surplus to requirements - We at least got them out of the squad, but all on loans, so will have to do it all again next year. 5/10.

Average across them all - 7/10.

The club did what the club could / wanted to.

Is it enough for a clear run on top 4 ? No.

Is it enough to be competitive in the top four race? yes.

Is it enough to dream. No it’s not.

And it all really means nothing much has changed. There is no real statement of “intent”.

We come out the window with a better squad than when we went in to it.
6/10 as it seems decent, but the proof is always in the pudding.

Maybe we should rate the January 22 window now, and this summer window in Jan 23.

I gave it an 8. We got business done early and effectively. Very happy to have Richarlison, Perisic and Bissouma. Hopefully Spence comes good and happier with Forster as opposed to merry-go-round for a back-up keeper.

I would've liked to have seen a couple more players in a couple other positions, but it was a very good window overall. And let's not forget, when Paratici took the reins he had a lot of work to do. It's a bit of a process, but he has done really well.

And part of the increased rating (maybe to go from 7.5 to 8) is the ITK is basically non-existent. That's so great!

The variance really is all down to Lenglet and Spence, right now it is a 7 or 7.5. I feel pretty confident that Perisic, Richarlison, and Bissouma are going to be very good players who contribute a lot. They are all proven and quality players.

If Spence and Lenglet can push on and become very reliable rotation players or even starters, then we're talking about maybe a 9. Both have the talent to do it but Spence needs to adjust to a higher league and Lenglet needs to rebuild his confidence.

I do think that spiritually Kulusevski and Bentancur should be considered as part of this summer window. They are part of the overall rebuilding process with Conte and were proactive moves in a window we generally don't make moves in.

People got enthused by the early window movement and finish to last season, but expecting Conte and Paratici to build a title contender in less than a year from the absolutely broken side that finished 6th and 7th the years before, despite the brilliance of Kane and Son, was always a bridge too far.

Top four and competing in all competitions is a reasonable goal this year and we look more than capable of doing that. This winter and next summer will again be crucial to building a perfect Conte team, it does take time. We came from a very low place and have improved massively in the less than a year under Conte, some perspective is required.

We could very well at some point this season be starting:

Lloris
Spence Romero Dier Lenglet Perisic
Bissouma Bentancur
Kulusevski Kane Son

With Richarlison being the first player to come off the bench. That's 8 of 12 players who weren't here two seasons ago. There's been massive turnover at the club. Most of the rebuild is done, just need a few more pieces.

When you consider our transfer windows in the Hitchen and Levy era (16/17-20/21), it's actually remarkable the position we're in now and a testament to Paratici and hopefully our continued upward trajectory.

19 players over five summer transfer windows. Only five still here, PEH the only starter. It's honestly incredible we can even field a team with that level of success over five years.

We're still making up for that totally wasted five years of teambuilding.

It was a good window and we improved as a team but the problem is, the other teams also made big signings and improved. So net net I don't even know if we've improved our standing from last season.

Yep, gave it a 7 myself.
:contethumb:

I did the same. But fuck knows at this point. If Bissouma ends up looking like his Brighton self, Lenglet ends up being a huge boost & Richarlison kicks on then it's an 8 at the very least. At this point any rating is just a shot in the dark.
