My point isn't that he's not a creep and an offender, he is. My point is that two quite similar countries in many respects have so different laws in this area. I'ts peculiar.
5 or 6 years ago there was a similar case over here where a politician slept with a 15 year old member of the parties youth wing. He was ridiculed in public, had to apologise over and over again but that was it. Quite differnet to 6 years in prison.
I think that's more of a reflection on your laws than it is on the sentence. Should absolute be illegal to do what he did, anywhere!

For the record Austria, Germany, Portugal, Italy, France, Czech Rep., Greece & Denmark have 15 or younger as their age of consent.
My personal feelings are that the difference in age is perhaps more important; I don't really think a 16yo and a 15yo hooking up is that big a deal, but a 28yo and a 15yo is a different proposition.
No real sympathy from me but feel a six year sentance is absolutely ridiculous when compared to some of the soft sentences handed out to other scumbags for much worse crimes.

The age is not the point. 16 is the age of consent, he knew it and continued anyway. You let grooming fly who's to say he doesn't keep pushing the envelope? That's how a lot of paedophiles work.

In the UK it's illegal, end of. Different countries have different laws and everyone is meant to adhere to those.
If you can't accept that over here it's illegal to groom an underage person and then have intercourse with them then maybe you shouldn't post anything about it.
The reason we have a legal system is so things are looked at objectively and not subjectively , of course anybody would feel differently if it was their daughter , the reality remains it is a very harsh sentence.
