Where exactly (what position) did he play?
Tricky question to answer as its difficult to find TV coverage.
Transfermarkt has him as an AM, but I'm not convinced that's entirely correct due to him only getting one assist, so I'd guess more of a box to box midfielder. Westerlo were not a high scoring side (hence Vuskovic being 2nd highest scorer with 7 goals)
In his career he's played as AM, DM and LW or RW for E youth who had too many midfielders in his year group so often played him wide ..... but he'd still be rated as one of the best players on pitch despite playing in his 3rd or 4th strongest position.
I think he's a player where a manager can play him in whatever midfield role he wants as Devine is versatile : problem with that is Donley is an outstanding AM so Devine would never be chosen in that role if Donley is playing (except as a sub ) etc
looked good first half, was the best player from that half, some nice bits of play and some good passes. got caught twice on the ball for taking too long but he can learn from that. positive display, hes well ahead of moore in terms of being ready for top level.
be interesting to see more of him this pre season, especially in the tougher games.

He passes the ball very well. Drills it and is bright
I want him involved. Looks the sort of player that will look better around better players.
I was very impressed with him today as well. He’s got an uphill battle for meaningful minutes this year, but he certainly impressed. I feel like this year is a Championship loan for Alfie. However, he’ll be 21 at beginning of August. He’s got a chance to make a big impact and with our homegrown numbers, a real chance to do something.

yea hes a player, some players have that weight of pass, hes got it.
He’s always looking around and on his toes. Similarities with Paul Scholes in some aspects… might turn out to be a Harry Winks but high potential
I think Alfie Devine can play in at least 2 positions equally well, the AM position he played yesterday v Reading where he threaded the ball through a few times to Solanke and could/should have had an assist or two, and also the deep lying playmaker role (ala Michael Carrick) where he also shows his good defensive skills.
That kind of versatility is worth its weight in gold to any manager who invariably will find other players injured from time to time.
Whilst I don't think the positions really suit him, its noteworthy that (at E u19 in particular) the E youth coaches blessed with lots of CM options but a shortage of wingers played Devine at both RW and LW ,,,,,, with Devine being rated as one of the best players on the field despite being played out of position. Again its that versatility which stands him in good stead.
id like to see him 4231 as one of the 2 and playing with the first 11, thats when youll see how good he really is.
That could be an even more fun to watch than you might imagine if Vuskovic is one of the CB's - both played together at Westerlo last season so will know each others game !

Their record signing is £2.1m so won't be a big fee

But there's no logic by which we're eager to have Devine at Preston permanently if his loan goes well, and given what he did at Westerlo last season, surely he has other, better suitors in the Champo

He pretty much only ended up at Westerlo last season because there weren't better suitors willing to take him and it was a pretty average loan.
Why not? He’s not going to make it here, get some money from him if we can.
If it's a price Preston can afford it's a meaningless amount of money.
I think there's every reason to expect Devine to develop into a 10M+ sales value, even from a pessimistic perspective.
We got 10M for Winks, who played for England. This guy won’t. I think whatever you get for him take it and move on.
