we pretty much fucked. back when bale got his chance, there were no one who could have played. so we gave him a chance. now we fucked up. there are simply too many awesome players to play the wing. i really really really like Townsend. But i dont wannnnna him to take Lennon´s position.

it was so much easier back then. when our squad wasnt magnificent.:avbmad:

A 451 and a 433 are the exact same formation. I honestly don't know enough about Chaldi to say that he is "generally speaking central" or that he isn't a lw. I, contrary to many others on this, have thought Chaldi has been good. He obviously hasn't lighted up the stat sheet, yet he is always solid. Personally my only knock on Chaldi is that he doesn't have Townsend's selfishness in the final third, from the very limited we have all seen him. It's pretty obvious that AVB wants to dominate the midfield and have creativity coming out from the wings. Townsend on the right (or lamela) cutting in, with Walker overlapping, Chaldi and rose on the other side doing the same, will provide an both options.
IT'S FUCKING C-H-A-D-L-I!!!!!!!!!!

Mate. Really?

We play a 451.

Lets not dress it up. Look at who we have we bought. They are all interchangeble.

Paulino, Chadli, Demble, Capoe, Holtby and of course Sandro

They are all generally speaking central.

AVB wants us to control the mf and feed off scraps.

This is why a natural lw could help. I dont see Chadli as anything near a natural lw.

Look at what you said. Now look at the first XIs we've fielded so far. How many of those players have been central midfielders?

3. Only ever 3. The middle of the park is where we will regain possession before either pushing through the middle if we've got a number 10 or letting the full back and wingers attack by going down the byline or cutting in, depending on the situation.

Once more - There is NO POINT IN CROSSING when you have ONLY ONE CENTRE FORWARD. The ball may bounce about and get to someone but we're modelling ourselves on how Barca line up without the awesome short passing game.

Really?? I can't be bothered to look all through the thread to see if this is sarcastic but I will go for the fact it isn't purely based on the bold letters.

Look at the goals from the EL away game and come back to me on how many goals were created from a / crosses b / passes from a winger in a wide position. Personally I would say 4 out of 5.

I think crossing the ball is very relevant with one striker as you should still have the other winger attacking the box. And/or a central midfielder arriving late or benefitting from the CFs movement.

Not sarcastic - and setting up against Woolwich in the same way as we did against Tiblisi...well, there is a gulf in quality. Paulinho getting that second goal in the first leg, for example. A player running from deep midfield (around 20 yards) and heading it in from 2 yards away without anyone marking him at any stage...I doubt that any Premier League opposition would be as generous as that.

While we've got the 4-3-3, our midfield three will typically be too far back and there will be a lot of movement around the edge of the box so the short passing game is what we're aiming to play if the ball ends up there, I'd guess. Also, in a 4-2-3-1 look at our options as the CAM - Holtby (shortarse), Gylfi (not exactly known for heading), Lamela (cannot comment). I don't think I've missed anyone, but if I have, please correct me.

I just think that, regardless of the value of it, I doubt it's something that we'll be concentrating on, looking at how we've set up thus far. If AVB changes the plans, fair enough. But my overall impression is that it doesn't make sense to have 1/2 players, one of whom is a renowned header of the ball, attacking a cross when there are usually 3-4 defensive players back for the opposition.

I got $5 that's says @ Sanchez18 Sanchez18 has been put through extra conditioning for questioning his coach's tactics. "Really, Jefe, a 4-4-2 again? Did you have your eyes closed last game or something?"

"..shutup Sanchez"

I'm no good at real football so I'm not really in a position to question. Currently sit the worst kid on varsity (the highest level of highschool). My coach says he wants to join in on the modern game and play a 4-3-3. He doesn't play with inverted wingers, yet he constantly wants overlapping wingers. We constantly lose the ball in the attacking corners. We struggle to score as a result. If we play with inverted wingers constantly attacking the middle would provide lots more shots and allow the overlapping fullbacks. I'm haven't really spoken up to the coach, just to teamates to try to do it in practise to see if the coach recognizes it. Its frusterating.

You should try to be a coach bruh, lord know we need some more over here that don't just get hired because of their accent. Pull an AVB and start preparing from a young age.

That's my goal. Literally being AVB is my dream (aside from playing for Spurs). I have no idea how to prepare for something like this, but I plan on talking to my coaches about looking to coaching now.

Go get 'em dude. Really impressed you care this much about the tactics at such a young age, and you've shown you do indeed know your stuff. Congrats on making varsity btw.

I can see the point you are making, but crosses can be low and rely on movement. The solitary goal in the Woolwich game a perfect example. 5 Spurs players in the area, 2 forwards..

I guess it just depends on your definition of a cross or a winger. Also worth noting Paulinho is meant to be a good header of the ball.

If we centre all our attention on playing narrow I can guarantee we would score less goals as teams would figure us out. There needs to be some variety to our game and I hope AVB recognises that.
