So fuck soldado, I like Dawkins. Oh wait drop everybody, he will play solo
With gomes at cm orsomething :D

Decent game from the kid.
Although, I do have one (potentially really important for his own sake) criticism for Townsend that we probably all have noticed again...

And this quote from John Crace (ESPNFC) perfectly sums it up:

"Does AVB drop the inform Andros Townsend (for Erik Lamela)? I got the impression Townsend feared just that as he was doing his best to get noticed with his Gareth Bale like runs and shots from distance. Someone should tell him to relax and concentrate on being Townsend; even Gareth Bale wasn't Gareth Bale -- if you get my meaning -- in his first three years at Spurs."

:townhmm:

^ That's all well and true, but that's the style he's been playing for a while and according to his dad in the podcast last week, it seems to be the along the lines of what AVB has asked him to do. I will say in this game in particular, he did take a few too many from a few too many yards out where he could have easily beaten the next defender to get into a better position. So I certainly agree that I wish he'd pick his head up a bit more and assess the game a bit more instead of pulling the trigger. He's bound to become predictable, he's just blessed with pace to get him out of trouble quite a bit.

That's what I'm worried about.

Was our weak link in attack today if I'm being honest. His shooting was just well off and got to the point of being annoying when he just kept blazing them over and losing possession. His dribbling and movement was pretty good but that got negated by the fact his end product was seriously lacking. When you're playing with intelligent players like Paulinho, Eriksen and Soldado you should really make an effort to link up with them and create for each other not just head down shift and shoot glory hunting. Still got high hopes for the kid but he needs to work on his teamwork after todays performance.

Disagree. All I see when I watch him play is a passionate and fearless winger who's not afraid to keep taking on his man an trying to score goals. When it doesn't quite come off for him he doesn't go hiding. He just wants to keep trying again.
Yeah he can obviously improve with his decision making an positioning but what do you want from a guy who's only just made it into the first team.

I find certain supporters criticism of Townsend a little bit harsh. Townsend has been more than impressive in every game so far. He is so much more dangerous and lethal than Lennon at the moment and fully deserves to be starting . Yes I agree he was a bit over keen/selfish at times and could of passed on a few occasions instead of shooting but Townsend will score plenty this season. He's a very exciting player and one that i am glad we have on our books as a home grown player. He is just finding his feet and is probably a little over excited but i think once he settles he will be such an important player for us. Lamela hopefully will start against Tromso and I would love Lamela and Townsend to start against Cardiff.

Like I said I have high hopes for the kid and would still much rather see him starting than Lennon but his shooting was well off today. I would've liked to see him atleast attempt to slip in Soldado or link up more with our other attacking players. It got annoying seeing him sky shot after shot giving up possession each time. If you're getting them on target and working the goaly it's all good but if you're consistently not then you deserve criticism.

Townsend will score plenty this season. .

not if he keeps blazing them over the crossbar

extra shooting practice this week for sure

His confidence is one of his biggest assets, but I think what his critics are trying to say ... is that ... they worry and question if Townsend may at times put 'over in front of confidence.' ... if you get what I'm saying.

Townsend is a really bright prospect, and it is common for people to criticize younger players because it is these early stages of their careers where the young players (like Andros) are still moldable and can effectively take criticism.

Regardless ... Andros DOES have a big part to play this season.

BTW, @ Don Corleone Don Corleone ...against Cardiff, imo only one of Andros or Erik will start. With today's great performance, I think Siggy should (and probably will) get another PL start. AVB rewards performance and form.

I don't think the range or frequency of Townsend's shots are a problem. Sounds a bit strange but he just needs to aim for the keeper a bit more as opposed to the top corner.

What's interesting is the similarities I see in his game and Bale. Obviously not at Bale's level, but his movement in possession, ability to cut in on that right side to create space for a shot and his bit of selfishness out there.

I don't think being selfish out there is such a bad thing, especially for a team that was struggling to find the back of the net. But when you selfish and fail miserably like AT did on Saturday, its gonna get magnified in a big way. He needs to be mindful of this and balance things out a bit.

If Townsend was truly being selfish then AVB would have subbed him. It seems obvious that AVB is encouraging him to be aggressive and have a crack when he gets a look.

I'm glad we have a player with that type of confidence in the squad. The end product will follow very soon I bet.

Nobody moaned back when bale was the only one taking shots. Let's pray they townsend eventually get the same praise that bale got
He just have to score unlimited amounts of goals:avbcringe:

I think he should aim maybe a little bit less ambitious, yeah. But why would he aim at the keeper?

On a corresponding but a little bit off-topic matter:

I remember when my old club had a football-psychiatrist to help us focus and make the right decisions on the pitch. Basically getting the best out of ourselves. He watched us for a few days and then handed out advice.
He told me specifically that I needed to not look at the keeper directly (Medusaesque' huh?), because that would make me unintentionally aim at the keeper.

Pretty funny to think we got a mental coach when we were barely 13 years old.

I agree the amount of shots bale had per game was ridiculous too but when they started flying in the 90th minute and winning games for us then everyone stopped moaning.

I like townsend think he will be a top player in a few years when he matures a bit

I think he needs to tone it down ever so slightly with the shooting. But I like his direct style and it adds a different dimension to our game. We could pass through you or just skin you. Keeps defenders guessing.

His awareness will improve with game time and training with first team.

Happy with him so far, looks delighted to be playing.
