Andros Townsend..would you to keep him?

Why?

Townsend is cocky. He is brave, give him his chance. I don't see it as lamela or Townsend. I see it Townsend or Lennon.
Exactly that, he's too cocky and too brave. Lamela provides chances for other players whereas Townsend just looks to replicate Bale from last season, what's his conversion rate, 5%? He would be used best as an impact sub.

And sparingly at best, as what we saw today it wasn't shooting or running like a madman at defenders we needed, but cohesion and team-play

He's a good lad and there's a lot of positives.
And it's important that we can bring players through the youth system to the full team.
It's important to keep a spine to the team that's English that love playing for our club. You just need to look at Chelsea without Terry (deffo don't like Terry but he makes a big difference to their team)
Just like Dawson's importance to our team is sometimes overlooked - better players out there but this guy loves the club and is a leader on the pitch and dressing room. He'd bleed to stop the ball crossing the line.
Reckon Townsend is a victim of his own quotes "I want to be the next Bale."
He just need to chill out a bit and service the team, not worry about getting wonder goals each game.

I like Andros, but I think it's clear now that we are much better with Lamela in that position. We could possibly play Townsend on the left as a sub for Siggy, and he can go down the line and put in crosses instead of cutting in all the time.

Well.

The right formation up top should be.

Townsend/Lennon Christian Lamela

Holtby

Soldado

Ideally the magic man to start but hellfire lamela could eclipse chris.

I think the Townsend shooting too much has become a bit of a herd mentality concept. He was willing to pass today and I had no problem with any of his shots. It wasn't like people were running free to play in.

I'm glad to have a confident player who is willing to challenge the opposition's defenders and put them in tough situations. Too often nowadays players are more afraid to lose the ball than they are willing to try to make a play. It is a good thing to have players with Townsend's mentality in the side.

One reason I still like Townsend a lot is his direct willingness to counter and attack with pace. I'm thrilled to death our increased creativity since the international break, but I'd still like to see more catching opposing teams on their heels with aggressive, pacy play. Townsend is not afraid to be direct and take players on, clearly he grew up watching Spurs. I'm hoping that with more confidence as the results continue to accumulate, this mentality will spread to the rest of the team.

That having been said, once again, he's got to start producing more. Lamela has begun producing more stats in less minutes of play.

All that having been said, what a fucking excellent problem to have.

I hope AVB does some of that video analysis with Andros and shows him how to improve.

He has all the ability, he just needs to improve his decision making (which is currently awful IMO)

When to go outside and when to cut in.

When to pass and when to shoot.

So far for me he comes inside far too frequently (Lamela slipping down the outside for the goal was a great example of why) and so far for me he shoots far to frequently/inappropriately.

Yesterday he ran across the box toward the centre, Paulinho was running into space from the left channel. The ball should have been played square for Paulinho to have a clear shot. Instead Townsend blazes one that doesnt bother anyone in a red shirt.

Later on Eriksen is dead centre in the box, back to goal and 2 defenders on him, Townsend makes a similar movement - this time he has a little space and nothing else on and so should shoot- he passes to Eriksen who is in a position to do nothing with it...

If he improves just a fraction of these decisions his output will skyrocket

Andros is taking a battering from the analytics/stats guys.

Poor shot choices is his problem.

And then compared to Michu (yes he is a different player, but arguably smarter)

Imo, Andros had a brilliant game today, which was why it was so perplexing to see him off for Nacer.

He did all the things right (well, except for the dive), and finally took the advice that variety is the spice of life. Just that alone added so much more to his game. I expected Cole to tame this youngster, but the quite opposite happened ... all because Andros went left AND right. We can already sense the menace that Andros can become, especially to lesser defensibly adapt teams.

If Andros sticks with this new advice, it could be a tad longer than we had originally thought ... for Lamela to take over.

Indeed. Thought Lamela would inevitably take over sooner rather than later due to Townsend's lack of variety, but Townsend showed up big today against one of the better defenses he'll play against this year. This right wing issue is looking to become a real problem.

I hope you're right man, but I just hate that our two best wingers play at the same position (despite Siggy making a strong improving case with his continued contribution of goals). While Siggy does contribute goals, both Townsend and Lamela are literal "game-changers," with their presences changing entire tactics for both sides. It's frustrating having one of them sitting on the bench at any given time.

Then again, maybe I'm still just failing to adjust to the unspursiness of actually having a deep squad.
