Three solid performances on the trot now. Very pleased to see that. Having him and Lamela as RW platoon going forward would be nice if they continue to improve.

Even if you don't like Townsend, you have to admit that penalty showed a lot of fucking bottle.
Yeah, with the stick he must know he gets from some and just how crucial that penalty was especially with the time. It was ridiculously ballsy and then to go the same way as he had on his previous two...

Yep, any penalty that hits the side netting first is a brave penalty - and unsaveable.

I have to admit i was really fucking nervous when i realised Townsend was the one taking the penalty, ahead of Eriksen, Chadli, Kane etc. But fuck, he showed me wrong.

Penalties are strange. I was never much of a finisher myself, but I did a lot of penalty practice on my own. Never ever missed one in a game, but missed dozens of 1v1 with the goal keeper.

If you go for the precision kick instead of the shot, it's more of a distinct pass than a finish.

Penalty aside i don't think he played that well. He really didn't do anything all match. He runs at defenders, but the best we can hope for when that happens is a corner kick.

Hopefully something clicks for him because right now he just doesn't fit into our attack. All of our goals came from the left attack.

The fact that courtois just towers over everything while standing in front of that goal was scary. I think he played ok in the end. Most of our most dangerous attacks came from the left but I gotta give Townsend some credit for that penalty. It was perfect.

But thats exactly what he's in the side to do. He runs at defenders, which tires them out, physically and mentally. Which is ok in the first half an hour, but then as you get to the end of the first half, the first signs of fatigue start to set in, and suddenly the full back is thinking, fuck, if this guy gets the ball i need to be ready, then he's only half concentrating on the game and thats when mistakes get made and goals conceded.

I wonder why Eriksen doesn't take penalties, I bet he's a beast at them.
Penalties are about belief more than anything. Really, being completely honest every single Premier League quality player should be able to hit an unsavable penalty every time. Which means that really the penalty taker is pretty much decided by who wants it, because they're the confident one.

He was probably the weakest of our attackers but we also scored fucking five goals. Kane and Chadli both had their best games in our shirt and Eriksen is Eriksen. No shame for Townsend IMO, I thought he was solid going forward and good defensively. Plus, the penalty was a huge moment. We had a similar moment where we could have grabbed momentum against City and failed to do so.

In addition Kane, Chadli, and Eriksen have playing together for most of the season. To see Townsend who hasn't played too much look a step behind or out of sync isn't exactly surprising. He's not some incredible player but I think he's willing to accept his role as a squad player he'll be a valuable contributor to the team for years to come.

Courtois doesn't get down well at all, and our finishing was clever. I wonder if it was mentioned in training?
Exactly what I was thinking during the match when we were scoring our 4th and 5th. They all seemed to be coming into the corners and I noticed that Courtois always never made it down fast enough. Maybe That was the plan. If it was, Poch is (and was already) a beast.
:pochsmirk:

Played his part. Gave their LB (Asspillkettle?) plenty of problems and that would also have made space for our other players as chav players would need to protect their FB. Won a lot of corners, which helped build pressure and keep us on the front foot at times. His passing is getting more and more better with each game, he's now even putting people through (Kane v Newcastle). Defensively he is putting in a shift regularly now. With Poch's guidance he'll have a big role in our busy season if he keeps up the hard work.

Played well I thought. Was obviously reigned in a bit but still caused trouble on the attack. Facking taters on him with that penalty. Fair play because I was crapping it.

I have noticed people's opinions are very fickle on here. Towsend could have 100 poor performances and one Motm performance and everyone will be saying he is world class. It's hard to decide whether he will kick on, Brilliant dribbling, power and pace but he will always be like Lennon. A player who we will need to 'create problems' and room for other players to score. I can't see him becoming a 10 goal a season winger or even providing a decent number of assists, like Lennon.
u can see the massive difference in technical ability if you compare them to a player like kane, vision, technical ability and grace, a match winner. Townsend and Lennon will always be great squad players but never good enough to win games.

ill post these from another forum

TwanYid- That Townsend pen...was unbelievable.

Seriously- if we don't jar that, it's 2-1 at the half with an eerie "oh shit, here we go..."-feeling pervading around not only the stadium but the entire Spurs universe. If that doesn't go in then- as strange as this may sound- we might've been better offdown 2-1 (if you get my drift). Chelsea would've dodged a bullet and their tails would've been way, way up in the 2nd half. If we fail to score there, we lose that match. Period.

Instead, up steps Eriksen- and then- Townsend?!? Wtf? Whose call was that? Poch's? The players? Was Eriksen going to take it and then Andros talked him out of it? Has he ever taken a pen that massively important before? And as to the goal itself: Courtois actually guessed right! Townsend placed it so perfectly and hit it so hard that the goalie had no chance whatsoever! Don't mean to state the obvious but my God was that a pivotal moment; up two goals at the half and everyone- including the players- began to really believe we could do it. Were it 2-1 many of us would've been thinking "3-2 loss" (or, at the very least- "3-all draw").

I would dearly love to know the backstory to that pen- who decided what, when, and why...were we messing with the goalie's head by not having Eriksen take it? If so- that was genius. Ballsy too-- imagine if Andros had had it smothered- or skied it over the crossbar...

Anyway- despite the fact that it was Harry Kane's day- that Andros Townsend goal was a fucking masterstroke. I will forever look at Mr. Townsend differently for having the sack to slot that home against those zombie scum vermin fuckers.
