To be clear, I was not reiterating the "Levy is cheap!" cliche. He indeed made ambitious managerial appointments. But he's not fond of poaching other teams' managers mid-season. As I said, I suspect that's because he doesn't see managers as assets like players are. They add value to those assets with their management/coaching, but they're not assets themselves. So paying (for) them huge wages AND compensation money doesn't make sense. He's technically right, but missing a small detail there. They cost peanuts compared to players, they really do. A very recent example, Amorim, a young and promising manager, costed nothing compared to our two prospect signings from Championship. I'm not even talking about signing an established player that would walk right in to starting 11.

Like you said, Levy indeed puts great emphasis on the use value of managers. But IMO he has a slightly unfounded fear of paying compensation for a manager and eventually taking a bigger loss because of it.Because that risk exists for players as well. In the last 2-3 years alone we lost tremendous amount of money from players we couldn't sell for anything close to what we paid. I don't believe that paying compensation for a manager is inherently more risky than paying for a player.

I agree with the unpleasantness of having an interim in charge for an extended period. It sends the fans and players a wrong message. That season is essentially a write-off. Maybe it is justified, maybe there are indeed no good options available anywhere. But,in general, I still would like to see him more proactive with these mid-season appointments, rather than taking a glance at the market and shrugging his shoulders. Because those long interim tenures really are a bad look for the club. They plummet fan interest, they raise questions about how the club operates in general and so on. Hopefully he finally realized this.
I think you have it a bit confused tbh.

Levy believes management is more important and more valuable, and more stable in its impact over time, than players.

But the other thing that has changed since the Redknapp era, like with players, when he rolls in as Billy Big Bollocks to steal another club's asset, they are just going to tell him to fuck off. The book has been out on Daniel Levy for decades: he's bluffing, always, just stonewall him and he'll fall to pieces.

That totally crippled his ability to buy players for years, and for managers, especially midseason, he's dealing with very high stakes in a compressed timeline, it's a lot safer to make the move when you've already got the bird in the hand.

He's scared of being made to pay over the odds for a manager, and he is correct to be afraid of that.

So what you're saying is that what I attribute to unwillingness is in fact inability. Is that correct? It's not that he does not want to purchase a manager mid-season, but he can't. Because his reputation has caught up to him and teams charge him extra because of it. And he obviously doesn't want to pay extra.

Fair. I get it know.

yea its true, i cant remember in recent memory a manager turning it round once its gone sour. then again we are in unprecedented times with this neanderthal, ive never know a manager to have one gameplan and be incapable of changing looool. its unbelievable.
There's very few things that make me actually angry, but hearing the time cliche, in the face of decades of evidence is probably one of them.

There are people out there trying to use data and statistics, visual graphs, cost analysis etc etc etc to make football a more intelligent and quantifiable sport.

And then the fans just carry on with "you gotta back 'im and giv' im tyyyyme"

Just saw on X that some fans would welcome Skipp back. Yeah, state of their minds, no wonder then so many of them are then AngeIn in X pools. People sometimes complain about level of discussion and users here, but man, its still miles ahead of X.

We should never have sold him. Was he better than some of our current midfielders- No but he filled in at LB in pre season and we only have 23 players in our Europa squad and only 1 LB as we could not fit Spence in and anyway he is cover for RB. Skipp as homegrown would have been in the squad and in the PL squad instead of Regulion. He could have played all Europa matches saving Udogie for PL and now would be at the very least on the bench for PL matches. He may have wanted to leave to get regular starts in the PL but was under contract and should have been kept.

And most importantly he bled THFC.

He did that role you have mentioned for the past 2 years, so i'm completely fine with club agreeing to sell him for decent fee before this season started -also for players own sake. Only wrong action from club was not having any better CT prepared in his place, but still - barring injury crisis for which i blame Ange our season should not be affected by lacking him in any way. Wish to see club cutting ties with players sooner that later, when you can still earn some money for them - instead of waiting forever with hope that things change.

Davies is a LB. He’s learned to do a job at Cb

24/25 starts: CB 7 / LB 2
23/24 starts: CB 10 / LB 8
22/23 starts: CB 27 / LB 8
21/22 starts: CB 35 / LB 7

TOTAL: CB 79 / LB 25

(...And that's despite Sess, Reg & Udogie all spending a large chunk of time injured and/or on loan).

He's quite clearly evolved into a CB over the last few years (and had been playing CB for Wales for years before that)..... It just doesn't suit your narrative (whatever it is in this instance).

Fuck me! Skipp is a poor player at this level. If supporters want players like skipp around then shut the doors. People will be saying Sessegnon should come back next!
