People in here don't do reality mate. Half ofthem think an Iraola would have grafted out a draw with Gray at CB and it was just Ange's suicidal football that cost us today and not the absolute gulf in class between the two sides or the 10 injuries or inept Summer window.

I think they all spend far too much time listening to brainlets like Carragher and J Redknapp.

We conceded six goals. At home. SIX.

We didn't even have a 5 minute period of decent football or a genuinely good move until Liverpool had scored 4 and put their feet up on the table. Our only moment in the entire game till then was them getting cocky and falling over to give us the ball.

This isn't about expecting a win or a draw in this specific game. Its about being 11th. Its about being bossed by Fulham, Bournemouth and Rangers. Or losing to Ipswich at home with a full strength XI. If this was a one off due to injuries we would all forgive it.

It isn't. Liverpool had the same amount of shots against us as they did vs Southampton. We are diabolically badly managed and its not just about personnel. Yes the injuries made this hard. No Ange didn't do anything as a coach to try and mitigate that damage. He's bad with no injuries and relegation bad when he has some.

Weirdly there were Postecoglites telling me we could win this. That we can beat anyone on our day. Now we never had a chance of even a draw because of the league one level team he has available.

The most humiliating defeats in my opinion are where we go 1 or 2 down in big games and just accept it.

Don't have a go or try to get back in. Just coast out a 1 or 2 goal loss so it isn't 3 or 4. That's humiliating.
conceding 6 at home is humiliating!!! The injuries are mostly down to Ange's suicidal system. Guys a clown and needs firing along with the bald genius who hired him

You can excuse defeats and bumps in the road if you're seeing genuine progress on the pitch. We can be top 5 in all the metrics we want, but we are 11th in the league, and we see our defence make the same mistakes time after time after time.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Liverpool could've run up 10 today if they really wanted to. They missed a lot of big chances and they cut through us time and time and time again. Injuries or not, we are not learning lessons defensively, and there imo is clear evidence that we just aren't being coached in that respect. How many goals have we conceded this year from crosses on our left to two guys unmarked on the right side of our box? There are endemic issues there that are not being fixed. Today as an example. If you have players that physically cannot play a high line as they are too slow and are being constantly exposed, don't play a fucking high line and sit a bit deeper. It's not abandoning your principles, it's being a bit savvy.

I respect that Ange has the way he wants to play, and that the players need to do much more. I'm desperate for it to work with him, I think he's a really likeable guy and I'd love him to have success at the club for a long period. But I don't see it happening. We are 11th halfway through the season, and performances aren't improving. You can only blame bad luck so much.
Good post and hard to disagree with any of this , I really wanted it to work out with Ange as I loved the story of an unproven manager finally winning something where world class managers have failed but unfortunately we won’t get the happy ending this time.

if you are playing the top team in the country with a make shift defence you don’t leave them exposed time after time , you change your tactics to protect the defence .
The subs as well were shocking , he left Sonny on when he was cooked after half hour , I get the bench was thin and I’m not trying to dig out Sonny but he was a passenger and it was like playing with 10 men yet The gaffer leaves him on hoping he might score from a corner again or something ?
This “it’s what I do mate “ is just not good enough

Iraola is still using a player who was in Div 1. On our books too. Can't recall too many big defeats they've had. Certainly not at home. You know, that bear pit of a stadium of theirs with a massive bank of Ultras giving it large.

Structure, discipline, shape. These are a foreign country for Ange. Others know it off by heart.

I'm guessing a fair few of those accept he's a Godawful manager but their inner conscious knows that getting rid of YET ANOTHER manager is just once again brushing the real problem under the carpet.

Someone in another thread pointed out that the one small crumb of comfort from this Ange mess is that it's actually putting our disgusting, hideous ownership more and more in the spotlight

The longer he's around, the more they get exposed.

A kind of short term sacrifice for the long term greater good

Could be an explanation?
Nah- there's teams with less money doing better than us. Levy is a certain kind of problem, but Ange is a bigger problem right now.

I’m still in. Just.

And I’ll admit, it’s less to do with the direction of travel, as I’ve no idea where we are one week to the next, but more a morbid fascination as to where this could end up going.

It’s the whole “shoot for the stars, but could end up in the gutter” argument. Chucking it all on black and crossing my fingers.

One and a half season is a fair amount of time and we've gone backwards. The only good spell we had was over a year ago. It went really well, but that was at the very start before Ange could've had a massive impact.
Why it worked is hard to tell. Often a management change has a positive immediate impact. Even if it was Ange 's smarts and tactics (which I don't believe at all) it's clear that he was found out a long time ago. Every team in the league knows how to counter his style. And he's so generous to them that he swears not to change anything. He really never does. It's amazing, this guy is paid millions, he's been found out, and he refuses to even attempt to make any changes. "That's how we play." It's worked before and I'm not changing a winning concept... Well, it's not really a winning concept when you're 11th in the league and the first team to lose against Ipswich.

If you're still In, don't you care about the results? Do you just want to be "entertained" ?

His post match interview was embarrassing. 2 of the injuries to Romero and VDV were exacerbated by recklessly selecting them for Chelsea at the cost of their welfare and putting their recoveries back weeks. I said at the time that in itself was worth the sack. Porro is completely exhausted because he refused to play Spence until 2 games ago which probably also contributed to Udogie’s injuries.
We need to sign a new quality centre back next month , switch to a 3-5-2 with Porro / Spence and Udogie as wingbacks and Son playing off Solanke as he did with Kane instead of being wasted stuck out wide left where he contributes nothing. And a new goalkeeper.
It’s not who we are mate, it’s how you are mate and please leave our club. Bring in a coach who plays to our players strengths not shoehorn them into his own so called “ system “
This is the first time I’ve seen a poll with the majority wanting him gone and is an early indication that the Ange love in is over.

Sorry, but that’s fucking stupid. Missing your first choice defenders doesn’t mean you totally forget about defending altogether.

What does he think, we can let in as many as we want because our first choice defenders are out? That’s fucking nonsense and he should rightly get called out on it,

If i was Iraola Tottenham wouldn't be my first choice in the Summer.

Our biggest hope of attracting someone whose stock is currently up is them seeing what we currently are and recognising that specific shards of what we do well are aligned with what they base their football around too.

Essentially; someone that thinks we need to be tweaked and refined, rather than completely re-invented yet again.

Ange thinks that continuing playing his style of football without our Keeper, first choice centrebacks and left backs is ok. It’s part of the bigger picture to eventually get where he wants us to be. Therefore getting beaten so very easily and falling down the table is fine, its just part of the game at the moment until, the injury crisis is over. The trouble is that our injury situation is always with us. He either will not adapt our play or does not know how to adapt our play not just durning this period of injuries but also depending on which team we are playing or whether we are home and away. That is what makes him either stubborn, naive or incompetent. Whichever one, the fact is that he has to go. We haven’t got dreadful players, they are just playing the wrong system, they are damn well worn out, they are not playing in their best positions. Being beaten by Liverpool at the moment would not have been dreadful but being beaten so comprehensively was dreadful. How can Daniel Levy spend any worthwhile sums of money in the January window as long as he has any doubts about Ange’s future at the club? The best thing would be for a new manager to come in a.s.a.p and give him a couple of players that he wants.

He's been seriously impressive. Standout manager this season with Slot and Nuno. Stabilised them last season lost their star sttiker and has improved them again. Thats progress and steady improvement, not continual chaos ball and hoping something works out.
Agree with all of this.

I see that he's the exact reverse of Ange with us. Whose first 10 games saw us top of the table before the wheels fell off.

His first 9 games with AFCB - not one win. Beat Burnley in match 10 and have not looked back since.

Very impressive that he took over some not very attractive footie under GON (who i think is decent enough) but from the off was trying to play very good stuff and has managed that and to get results.

I'd add Silva at FFC to the list of successes this season. He's almost gone under the radar, picking up everyone else's cast offs.

It's what we all laughed at Ten Egg at MUFC for. Determined to play a system that didn't suit what he had available.

Actually I'm not even sure there is a system at all with us. It's a free for all. Schoolboys in the yard all trying to score before the next lesson begins. Next goal wins it. We've all done it. Football? It's MateBall.
