Those who are arguing in favour of another manager are in a tough spot by default. They're asking a purely hypothetical question (" How would X do if he got here tomorrow? " ) and answering affirmatively. Then they're trying to find pieces of evidence that can only indicate, not prove in a definitive sense, that a new manager would indeed do a better job.

A manager's past accomplishments, his fit with the squad, his current state of form etc are all indicators of how he would do if he' s put in a different situation. They can never conclusively prove anything, in the strictest sense of the term. Because they all involve extrapolation to some extent. Obviously not all arguments are equal in strength, but after all that's what they are: arguments. There's no escaping this.

It seems that those who are fond of Ange are taking full advantage of this situation. They're rejecting all the arguments in favour of all possible candidates in the sense that these are not conclusive evidences. Even though they themselves have to prove a hypothetical of the similar kind ("How would Ange do if he stayed for X amount of years, given Y amount of money and so on? " ), they usually refuse to do this and instead take a defensive stance.

They spend a good portion of their time tearing down all other managers, without necessarily trying to make a positive case for Ange. They assume that status quo, by default, is preferable to any possible change because the latter involves a leap of faith. And if there's no conclusive evidence that change would indeed lead to better outcomes, then why bother?

It's not a pure nonsense point of view that simply needs to be ignored. But it's a very negative one that involves a great deal of fondness towards status quo, while conversely involving a great deal of skepticism towards the unknown. Except I don't see what's so great about the current situation that we need to cling on to by any means.

I don't have a problem with hiring a new manager in the Summer (if this carries o), I have a problem with hiring a new manager now because there is 0 credible managers or there to take over the job now

The post wasn't directed at you then, feel free to ignore. For the record, despite having very little confidence that Ange'll turn things around and reach new heights in this club, I also want him to finish the season. But that's solely because I'm very adamant against the idea of an interim, not because I believe in Ange. I assume that some share this sentiment of mine. But, here's the key, this is not an argument in favour of keeping him long-term at all. Just treating him as an interim disguised as a full-timer. That's it.

Maybe I'm wrong in my observation, but I see a tendency towards wanting to keep Ange for the foreseeable future based on the reasoning I outlined above. That was the background of my initial post.

On the basis that none of us know how this season is going to turn out, I think we have to keep him until the end of the season at least. We really should not ignore the injury crisis we're having. It's unfair on Ange, whatever you feel about him. He's right about the growth, this will be a great character building period for the young players.

If he wins the Europa, he stays. If he gets us top 4 and LC, he stays. If we get to the final of Europa but we go out on some freakish handball incident that they later change the rules for, I think he stays. To be honest, I don't mind another a season of this, if it improves result-wise overall. With better players/chemistry, this could be real champagne football.

Imagine the scenes if he wins the Europa after all this shit.

There’s no time for sentiment in football.

We didn’t cry when Poch went after the CL final, we didn’t cry when Ramos went after winning a cup. We cried a little for Jol but BMJ had taken us as far as he could.

If you told me that we are going to win the Europa but our league form is going to be like this for the entire season I’d probably accept that. I suspect most would.

But we are struggling in the group stage. There’s no guarantee we will even avoid a playoff.

You’d hope and think that even Ange’s spurs can beat 15th placed Hoffenheim. But you never know.

Right time to call in that snide Larry David cnut.
It is Christmas Eve and I say we are not winning the Carabou Cup nor the Europa League.
FA Cup I have no idea of.
Can we finish above 10th? Possibly but not certain so last year's 5th place was a miracle.
I personally don't care if he is sacked on Boxing Day or in the Summer but he is gone he is dead man walking. Just like watching Gerry Francis as the end came nearer and he was swinging his body from side to side like a deranged person on the touchline.

Anyone thinking Ryan Mason for anything other than interim till we get someone in is not right. Tonight I’m officially Ange out. Today was the final straw for me. Nothing positive about any of it.

Surely this can't be allowed to continue?
' It's like quitting a computer game, starting from the beginning and then reaching the same difficult level you struggled to get past before and reaching for that restart button again.'
A quote from Football London. However I thought that was also your view that it is Levy that is the problem and no point bringing in a new Manager as they are all doomed for failure whilst Levy remains.

Mason isn't good enough for long term, of course, but he would be better than Ange by now, and that says a Lot about Ange's level as manager. This is probably the best squad we have since the glorious years and Ange makes us no better than Everton.
