Eddie Howe was appointed Newcastle manager the same week we hired Conte.
So he can speak up now as an excuse.
I was sceptical when he joined . I boarded the hype train after the first few games of last season , stayed on board when it was clear the driver had croaked and the train was heading for a crash . I jumped off the train about 3 months ago , I wish I could explain why I didn’t pull the emergency brake a year ago .

And that’s the difference between backing the right horse with Howe and not with Mange.

The odd thing is how seldom the writers talk tactics. I think all the philosophical discussions that people liked during the first season have worn thin in the second.
