Maybe, just maybe ; if we go out on Thursday, it may just liberate Ange , free his mind ; to try other things, field untried players ( with no pressure; because everything will have already gone to sh1t and he knows he won’t be around much longer . And then just maybe he’ll help our longer-term development.

I know it’s an optimistic take ; but it could happen.

As a few others have said ; there’s very little point in sacking him once / if we’re eliminated. Although of course it may well happen .

Of course there's a point in sacking him. We want to get back to winning games and to do that you need players who enjoy their work. We are clearly in a death spiral now and the players don't believe in what they are doing anymore. The intensity in our play is non-existent. If we want to avoid 20+ defeats in the league we need to make a change right now. The fans do not deserve to endure more of this diabolical football.

Do you really want Ange doing the lap of appreciation at the last home game when we are in 17th place? It would be one of the most bizarre scenes in the history of football.

He absolutely won’t. The reason we are in this mess is because he only knows one single way of playing and doesn’t know how to do anything else. He was figured out after 2 months and it’s been the same shite week in week out for 18 months.
People still don't get it. He I'd a capable enough coach to change really. What you see is all there is. If he's really really lucky Celtic take him back.

I don't think Mason can change the tide.
It's too late, the damage is done.
I don't like it, but it isn't going to change the results IMO.

Quite agree

Get rid of the fraud before kick off on Thursday

i dont know i remember us not getting out the group stages quite often before CL dropouts appeared .

I also remember our very strong squad under Poch as a CL dropout not getting past Gent over two legs , think the lack of english winners tells the story
2007 Quarter final
2008 Round of 16
2009 Round of 32
2012 Group stage
2013 Quarter final
2014 Round of 16
2015 Round of 32
2016 Round of 16
2017 Round of 32

Just the once, but still quite disappointing looking at our record nonetheless. Without CL drop outs, with Champions league football on the line (and this season a shocking league campaign) we should be going all out for the tournament.

We were struggling to score. Bale had gone and Soldado was hopeless. Lamela, the new Bale vanished. When teams sussed out we had no teeth they attacked the living shit out of us.
We had Dawson, a young Vertonghen, Kaboul and Chiricces at the back. So no attack and no defence.

You’re bringing back sad memories!

I remember the 6-0 thrashing at City where poor Daws was found out with his lack of pace and we conceded early on but just after the goal we actually knocked the ball about and played well!

2nd goal knocked the stuffing out of us though sadly!

2007 Quarter final (5th in the league)
2008 Round of 16 (11th but won the League cup)
2009 Round of 32 (8th and got a league cup final)
2010 (4th)
2011 (5th)

2012 Group stage (4th)
2013 Quarter final (5th)
2014 Round of 16 (6th)
2015 Round of 32 (5th)
2016 Round of 16 (3rd)
2017 Round of 32 (2nd)
2018 R16 (3rd)
2019 Final (4th)
2020 R16 (6th)
2021 R16 (7th)
2022 (group stage covid farce) 4th

Just added some context to all those seasons we didn't get as far as the mighty quarter finals.
Even if we win it, a bottom half finish isn't acceptable at all.

The only thing I found boring about Conteball was the predictable starting 11's every match. No matter how bad someone was, they seemed to play.
But even in his 2nd season, it was better than this clusterfuck of football.
And we were 3rd ffs.

We were 14th when Poch was sacked. P12 W3 D5 L4
We were 7th when AVB was sacked. P16 W8 D3 L5

The problem AVB had was those losses included 6-0 away to City and 5-0 at home to Liverpool. And of course, the alarm bell ringer 3-0 home spanking by a very average West Ham team.
It was also the largely lacklustre football which was about as dull as I've ever seen. And the infighting with Levy over transfers.

This was a particularly big issue as AVB fancied himself as a high level scout in many ways and had a vast network of connections with players.

He wanted us to sign Hulk for £40m and had apparently agreed the deal with the player. Can't blame Levy for that one really!

I quite liked AVB actually. I obviously didn't like his style of football but warmed to him significantly more than every manager since apart from Pochettino.

Didn't AVB want Moutinho and got Dempsey instead?

I quite liked Dempsey... I thought he always gave everything. 12 goals and 5 assists in 43 games.
Suffered for not being a glamour signing. Fans never took to him.
From memory Moutinho had agreed to join us but the transfer paperwork 'mysteriously' messed up, leaving the deal scuppered and apparently AVB livid.

Dempsey was AVB's choice to replace VDV. Not a great decision. As in he told VDV he wasn't wanted.
Wasn't it a 3rd party ownership issue? IE, the sort of player Levy loves to pursue knowing full well we cant sign them?

Andre Villas-Boas did not approve four of Tottenham’s seven summer signings and asked chairman Daniel Levy not to buy them.

Villas-Boas objected to the acquisitions of Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen, a quartet who cost Spurs a total of £56million, but his judgment was overruled.

The Portuguese manager asked his chairman to buy Hulk, Joao Moutinho and David Villa as he planned for life without Gareth Bale.

Think it will be the first time that I won't stay for the lap of appreciation.
