Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Before the season started, if you told me we would finish 17th and win the Europa League, I would have taken it. Moreover, if Ange wins a trophy in his second season, it will be a successful season.

Without any better options, I really don't have a problem with keeping a manager I personally dislike just for the principle of finishing a season and/or letting him win a trophy. I felt a similar way about Mourinho and Conte to an extent - there were fundamental things I disliked about them, at least half way through the season, but they still deserved to see out the season despite my disagreements, as long as they had a chance of a trophy and/or a CL place [and did not get relegated]. For me, at least, that was their job and they get paid to take any criticism, to an extent.

The biggest problem is if Ange does not win the Europa League. Then we may as well have kept Poch, who would have easily been able to finish bottom half and get us to semi-finals and finals on a consistent basis, even with a worse budget or recruitment team. I truly believe any of our managers could have won something, like Juande Ramos did, if they were all allowed two seasons to fuck off the Premier League entirely. Even Nuno is proving himself to be a good man.

But Ange winning the Europa League and getting another season is not an actual problem for me. It may well be a problem next season, ala Erik ten Hag at Man United, yet I would have taken this exact problem last season given our lack of silverware. It is a higher quality problem to have than no silverware at all. You have to risk failures in certain areas for success. Our failures in Premier League this season I was expecting last season.

This season has been more disappointing, but I've said many times I don't give a fuck what Ange says in the media as long as he is successful. It is painful when he is not successful and therefore it is a massive problem a lot of the time with a lot of the shit he comes out with for many fans. Of course any fan is going to bite back at him when he says something that discards them all and he loses 18+ Premier League games, all the while being compensated an unfair amount of money. It's a massive imbalance, and it does suck to be a football fan.

If things are being promised and they are not delivered the fans deserve a refund - one that they never actually get I might add. If they are not promised it in the first place, or success is not paid for already, it is easier to accept the demise with less protestations. I don't think it is on the fans.

On the other hand, if he wins a trophy, it's fair play, relatively speaking in my opinion. I'll congratulate him aptly like I did after his first ten games. If he is there next year, I hope he wins three or four trophies. It is pointless to think otherwise. He could even tell me to support Woolwich again if he wants to and it just would not matter. The point, for me, is that success trumps sentimentality, and a trophy is better than any random Premier League position. We have no better options to manage this club at the moment thanks to the owners and the chairman. Ange basically should only be sacked if he gets 2 points from 8 games starting next season, which I was entirely expecting him to do in his first season anyway - given that we just finished 8th the previous season and sold our best player yet again.

So, yeah, if he wins the Europa League, in my opinion he deserves a go at the Champions League and recovering the Premier League form next season, as unrealistic as all of that may seem right now. However, if he does not win the Europa League, I think we need to part ways.

half agree, would have taken 17th and europa. It's a scenario i never would've dreamed possible but if that's what satan offered then i'd take it as it's a massive trophy, a 3rd to add to the collection. A shot at another trophy in August, and a CL place. It also gets the long running joke Monkey off our back.
But were i disagree is giving him another season, he's had over 70 domestic games to implement his tactic and it's shown that it doesn't work even with VDV and Romero in the team. Time to try someone else , there are interesting choices out there outside of unispiring Frank, Silva and Iraola options

For me under no considerations should Ange be with us next season ,the amount of losses is unacceptable. We have a lot of work to do to win the EL ,no way have we a favourites chance ,we can make the final but would be facing a tough task to win it ,we have a chance but that's all I reckon .

Can we bring in Still to replace Ange please?

He's a young manager on the up that knows what he is doing.
No friggin way.

He did Reims dirty. They gave him his big break, invested in the guy, were planning the future with him...he acted all keen to commit but then threw his toys out the pram weeks later when they didn't wanna release him so he could go get a fat paycheck elsewhere. Now at Lens where he's doing a bang average job.

The dude is nowhere near good enough for a club like Spurs, even the state we're in right now cause of Levy, Munn Lange and the Blob. Fuck me, he nearly signed for Sunderland...yes, friggin Sunderland.

Sorry but that’s gimmicky as fuck.

You need to be able to walk into a room of premier league footballers and get them to buy in.

They want to know where you played or what you’ve won as a coach first, they don’t give a shit about your video tutorials

I agree completely. But in our current state, even with a new manager, do you believe we could convincingly crack into this group:

Liverpool
Arse
Man City
Chelsea
Villa
Newcastle

That's assuming Utd don't improve either.

We could get into it, but it's definitely not a foregone conclusion based on our current squad and fragility.

But now it's being said that if a new manager comes in and finishes 7th, he's underperformed.

We need to pick the right manager and give him time to build his team. Not an easy task because we're not that appealing to any top managers. Someone like Fabian Hürzeler would be great, young, fresh ideas, passionate. Unfortunately I can see it being like when we got Nuno who was our 11th ish choice.

Yea, I mean expectations have to be managed.
For me, for new season, the aim must be to break into at least top6. But depending on how some of the competitors seasons turns out, being left to 7th and 8th place could still be regarded as good result.

But it is dependent on other factors do.
Like - how do we perform in the cups. How much do youngsters get playingtime. What will our recruitment policy be like. And so on.

Or to put it other way - if we sell Romero, Son and Richie in the summer and just reinvest the cash; Moore, Gray, Vuskovic, Bergvall, Yang etc get lot of playing time, the results are trending in the right way (getting better by the game) and we go deep (at least SF) in at least one cup but finish even 8th - it might be OK.
At the same time, if we get kicked out of all cups early, prerformances trend downwards as season goes on and summer window sees us having decent net investment and we finish on 8th - most likely not OK.

Vicario isn't the best keeper.

Maddison isn't the best No 10.

Sonny isn't the best LW.

Brennan isn't the best RW.

I'm taking Inaki Williams over Dom, even though the former plays out on the right a lot.

Our defence has conceded 5 more goals than United's...and twice as many as Bilbao's. But yeah Porro-Romero-VdV-Udogie are so much better than their counterparts.

Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur...lol.

Oh and your beloved Ange sure isn't the best manager...soz.

Agree 100pc.

If he wins EL, I actually think he will be given the start of next season. I don't want that, but I can live with it if need be.

Ange will get us relegated if he stays all of next season. That statement is based on his performance throughout the second half of this season. He will flush the club down the U-bend.

Don't be deceived by the odd good performance such as Frankfurt away. That reflects that the players are actually decent, if not great, players, and have it in them. Our EL performances, that away game in Frankfurt and Qarabag home aside, has been very poor.

Bingo.

Obviously the EL games are going to matter more towards having the season end on a high note. But I'd like to go into those games and a potential final in good form. So we can't just write off the league games as if they don't matter and accept losing just because we aren't at risk of getting relegated.

The players and staff needs to approach it game by game and do so professionally. The next game is always the most important.
Not as if we get a discount on the games where "it doesn't matter", is it? So unprofessional by all involved.
