Our rivals (which there are many) will turn this into a second rate cup... for any club with CL ambition, it's like the league cup... happy if you win it, not bothered if you get knocked out in the group stage so long as your league form is good... the only reason we are wetting ourselves about it is because this season has been like running through the Gobi desert with a full astronaut outfit on and no water... hot, sweaty, dehydrating and will end with paramedics giving me mouth to mouth.
See, I don't understand this mentality. For years we've heard fans shouting we want more trophies. Fans of other clubs making jokes about the new addition to our trophy room being the carpet etc.

Now we're 3 games from winning our first trophy in 17 years and first European trophy in 41 years, and fans are saying its a piece of shit trophy not to get excited about.

I guarantee Man City fans would celebrate winning it, so would Chelsea, so would Liverpool. We'd all rather win the Champions League of course, but having a winning mentality means taking every competition seriously....forget our rivals turning it into a second rate cup, some of our own fans are already doing it!

When Poch was manager, and we lost, I was pissed off for days afterwards. I think it was because our defeats happened less often and we were challenging for things.

Now, with Ange, not only am I immune to our defeats, I expect them. In a strange way, life as a Spurs fan is easier under Ange, because there is zero expectation.

If Poch was here and we were in the semi-final of the Europa, with the squad he had, we'd have expectation.

Now, it's just indifference i.e. no sense in getting hopes up as Ange loses most games.

Levy makes the strategic decisions, and when he fires Ange, he better get the next appointment right, and all that money we made from everything associated with the business, needs to be ploughed into the squad build (as far as fair play rules go) so that we can all have something to hope for, before we die.

I honestly think if we won the Europa Ange would happily walk away and stick his fingers up to us and say "I told you so" , without a backward glance or a thought of how bad our league form was .

Then he would mention it in every interview for the rest of his life .

I’m not so sure. We’ve all seen that his ego is huge and his lack of self awareness astounding. He seems to think he’s not doing a bad job at all. If anything, I suspect he’d be asking his agent to get him a new contract. He’s an utter berk. He will need sacking, I just hope levy isn’t intoxicated by his bullshit when they meet and keep him on. Never underestimate Levy to not do the wrong thing!

Fucking Captain Excuse fraud.

He is now building narrative that we looked as we looked because of rotation.

Well, West Ham, Everton, even freaking Southampton were bigger deal at Anfield in recent weeks than us. But this fraud is unable to lose with at least minimal level of dignity without having strongest squad on the pitch. Btw with VdV and Romero this ends 4:1 at best, but still - excuse is there so why not use it.

And to be think some happy clappers want him still here if we win EL. Disguisting as well.

I love the fact that we're in a semi final, and all of a sudden it's "second rate" or "the opposition has been crap".

Honestly, you'd think we're serial winners and that we're better than this trophy, when in reality we've been dogshit in terms of winning silverware for near 2 decades. Why is it when we have a chance to win something do our fans suddenly decide it's not worthwhile or we fluked it? You think Newcastle care that it's "only the league cup"? Their fans had one of the best days of their footballing lives, and I want that as well.

League season has been horrific, the worst in my lifetime as a Spurs fan. If it ends with a European trophy, I won't be looking back in 10 years and thinking 'remember that season we finished 16th', I'll be saying 'remember that season we won a European trophy?'

I don't want Ange here next season either, and the league form is unforgiveable, but let's not pretend winning Europa is some sort of failure when in fact it's a huge success.

As I see it

Levy sold us London Bridge having promised us Tower Bridge with the new stadium . Ange is the 60 year old demotivated, chippy road sweeper with a bad back employed to keep the bridge clean . Instead of picking up the rubbish he has a massive dump on the bridge and blames the pedestrians for last nights mega hot curry giving him the gut ache .

You wouldn't Paul, you don't think this club can do anything wrong... this trophy is the second rate European trophy... that is a fact... it use to be for teams who finished second and third in their league, now it's teams who finish 5th, 6th, 7th or winners of the lesser leagues who get smashed in Champions League qualifiers... that is a fact... it was devalued further when Champions League teams no longer dropped into it when they fucked up their Champions League campaign... that is a fact... will I be happy if we win it... absolutely... does it save this season... not even remotely.

In 10 years you'll be looking back and saying, "Remember that season we finished 17th and nearly won the EL." That's what you'll be saying mate.

And if so then yeh, I'll be annoyed.

I don't lose sleep over football results I can't control. I'm a fan of Tottenham, but for me life is a lot bigger than just that.

I get for some fans it is all they have, and I respect that. But if I did, my mental health would be rock bottom.

If we win the lot, I'll be dancing in the street with my son and a case of the golden nectar. If we lose, I'll just have to move on.

That fact Levy has allowed it to get to this stage is embarrassing. Remember that Poch was sacked after losing 4 premier league games in a season. Yes it was a mess after the Bayern Game and the Brighton game were bad losses. Never in a million years did I think Levy would allow a manager to lose 19 games and still be here.

Yeah.

But all the fans that have repeatedly banged on about giving managers time have deserved this. In fact, they deserve worse tbh.
In some ways, I'm sort of glad we have shown the world what actually happens if you give a total fraud (of which there are many) carte blanche to carry on.
You'd like to think this would prove to any and all that the cliche is nonsense and that just giving anyone, no matter how little evidence there is that things are/will improving, but you know the same old voices in the fanbase and the media will be back to "you gotta give him time" with the next one and the one after that.

I remember we were bottom half shite the last 2 time we won a cup.
I remember we sacked the cup winning coach 8 games in to the subsequent season having set a premier league record for least points in the first 8 games. I think that was only beaten this season by Southampton.

I think the odds are though, that we bottle the Europa league, either this round or the final. And we'd have totally thrown away any league dignity.

Wether or not the Europa is second rate. It leads to CL qualification, and there's NOTHING second rate about that
That has changed the entire Europa League debate. It should always have been that way.
That and the fact that there's no Champions League dropouts anymore.
It's gone from a 2nd rate cup, that's hard to win, with very little on offer for doing so, to a 2nd rate competition, that's easier to win and has a very worthwhile prize.
