Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

You’re one of those people that like finishing second to fifth but never winning anything, and see that as success then…

Yeh let’s downplay the achievement of making the Europa league final for both teams shall we, because it’s not up to the standards of the most competitive football league in the world.

Fuck me, the mental gymnastics people are doing on here for this guy are crazy.

We are going to finish 17th (!!!) in the league. The league is always your barometer of progress, your comparison up against your domestic peers who have similar resources to you. Lots of poor teams have won cups and will continue to win cups because you have to win many less games. West Ham were "european champions" five minutes ago and Rangers were a shootout from winning this same competition. Are they well coached, good football teams?

It's not about what I'd prefer. Winning the EL might be preferable to me (as its a trophy) but it doesn't represent the coach doing a good job. Amorim has literally said this.

There's a reason 16th and 17th in England are both finalists for this competition. I know saying this hurts your feelies but its a fact. None of which changes the desire to win it, or the fact it would be great to win it, but I don't feel the need to make it something it is not in order to achieve those things.

If spurs win tonight

Qualified for champions league
Won a cup ending a long drought.

If 17th position was presented to you but the above was guaranteed you'd take it hands down. Its time to win something

If we win, despite how you feel about him now, I think Ange will become a club hero. His sentiment amongst fans is at an all time low. But in hindsight I think some will look back at his naivety and call it sheer determination. The guy is a professional bullshitter, maybe one of the best of all time, but I think the history books will call him a hard working dreamer, who through grit and guts got a PL job and took Spurs to a European final. Yes, he is an over-achiever way out of his depth and I want him gone next season, but you have to admire the journey. Just look at the timeline.... Mourinho, Conte, Postecoglou...... he's such an unlikely candidate to give us the trophy we so crave. This situation is absolutely bonkers, he couldn't be more up against the wall. And I wouldn't put it past him to pull it off, I think he's that sort of person. I think he thrives on proving people wrong
The next guy to win us a major European trophy will 100% become a legend , I don’t really like the guy but if he gets us over the line tonight he fully deserves to walk into that press room with his cock out , dump the trophy on the table and say “what the fuck did I tell you about my second season” :ange-arms:

Yes 100% finishing 17th is shit and inexcusable , however in a few years time if we do happen to win it tonight we won’t remember 17th we will just remember that Ange always wins in his second season .

Yeah that's great .... and the dickhead that is Ange can rub one out to that every night if he likes, while managing Sydney FC or whatever.

As long as he isn't here.
Yeah I want him gone regardless but I’ll happily accept him as a “legend” if it means we win the EL tonight. It would be a fitting way to break the “Spursy” curse by the worst manager winning us our first trophy in years, any way let’s get the trophy out the way first then worry about the future

He definitely wouldn't be a legend imo, it's not the champions league or premier league ...

He'd have cult hero status, probably, and I wouldn't bemoan it too much because ultimately he broke our duck and it makes sense.

Why would you forget finishing 17th? Unless you have dementia or Alzheimer’s. It’s not really something you can just forget if you’re actually invested in being a fan. I can remember almost all our league positions over the last few years, why would I forget this one?

Fucking state of the railway in this country.
Get to Euston in plenty time for the 1330 train and they’ve fucking cancelled it.
So I’m now waiting around to see if the 1430 is running in the full knowledge that if it is, it will be rammed full.
Absolute wankers.

Please for one day can you just get behind the team?

Its the day of the final and your ranting away on the Ange Postecoglou thread. Just get behind the team and manager today. We don't make many finals. We need to embrace this.

You are probably right about Ange. You were probably right all along. You'll get your credit and your brownie points at the end of the season on here. But please just get behind the team today and only focus on the final tonight. We don't need constant negativity on the forum today. We have a huge game tonight and that is all that matters for the next 8 hours. Forget about everything else. Please.

I could ‘forget’ down to about 8th/9th as a ‘disappointing season’.

One space above relegation - notsomuch.

I just hope we win so the argument can carry on into eternity!

Addressing the 'Ange's Legacy' issue. If we win tonight it will be despite his management. If we lose, it will be because of it. He'll have no legacy in my eyes.

I feel like Ange will deserve to gloat and delivering a trophy is delivering a trophy. Particularly with our recent history and him saying he always wins one.

But to act like this will be a "success" or better than the sustained competitiveness Poch had is bonkers. Success isn't so binary and it's almost like part of our fanbase allowed all the "but they haven't won a trophy" naysayers to infiltrate our psyche. Have you really had more fun watching football this year? Than the years we went undefeated at home. Blasted the mid/bottom table teams, etc. I've barely been tuning into our PL games for months. Even the Europe league. Have we really had any great performances? Maybe 2-3 solid games where I felt proud of the team?

Ultimately this binary view of success is a fast-track to being a miserable prick and to some degree undermines why we watch and enjoy sports. I'll certainly remember the CL final run with our epic games against Man City and the comeback against Ajax more fondly. I'll remember beating RM at the Bernabeau. Blasting City in the league. Beating Woolwich to secure CL a few years ago. This will be more like "remember that crazy Europa league run we had when we were absolute sht?" Sports are ultimately all about enjoyment and memories and I can't say I've enjoyed this year very much. A trophy is just a representation of all that. Certainly it matters, particularly when you've had a hard time getting over the line, haven't won in a while, etc. It takes on a special get-over-the-hump feeling. But is anyone optimistic about the current squad and management? We are an absolute disaster in our overall form.

Just head the most wonderful description of our situation from a mate.

Think of Spurs as an Orchestra. Ange is the conductor.

When he took over, the Trumpet player Miles Davis left and was replaced by Roy Castle.

Jimi Hendrix on Guitar injured his finger, and the 17 year old drummer from a local school band was asked to step in, dispite never having played guitar before.

Nigel Kenedy on an extended break after a disastrous haircut, but it's ok, the owners have lined up Jedward to replace him.

The next few gigs weren't great, so they fired the conductor.

Let's face it, Postecoglou would be as shit an orchestral conductor as he is elite football manager, so it's understandable that they sacked him.

What you're saying is he should have been sacked ages ago. I agree.
