No ELITE team has ever not won a single trophy.

We were a great team to watch for a few years, but we were not elite by any stretch of the imagination.

We all know the Europa is the second tier of European club competition. However it still needs to be won and its only been won 3 times iirc by Champions League teams dropping down

Poch played Kane in the CL final because he believed an unfit Kane could step up when the big moments arrived. He didn't. Not the first time either.

Its not always the most talented or who plays the the prettiest football who win finals. Its who is available, who has the players who can step up when the big moments arrive and does the team have the courage to collectively not wilt under the pressure of the moment.

Which would be fine if there wasn't such a strong link to the demands of Angeball, the overuse of players or the fact we got beat with strong starting 11's as well as injury ravaged ones.
Newcastle and Chelsea away last season are examples - they had bigger issues than us but easily won.

Waffle. It’s about the better football team 99% of the time.

When we played a CL final it was against a formidable Liverpool outfit with world class players.

When we played a EL final it was against 16th placed United.

Very rarely the less talented team wins in these circumstances. We gave away a ridiculous penalty early and that was the game.

I said 99% of the time. I could also say it to France 2016.

People chat a lot of shit when it comes to this stuff. Being a winner or loser is rarely some inherent spirit, it’s down to talent, the right draw/circumstances etc.

In our case this time many circumstances were on our side and we won it. In the CL final that wasn’t the case. The fact we were against uber talented Liverpool and not shite United didn’t help.

If it was Liverpool in that EL final it would’ve been very different. It wasn’t.
