If VDV is Van Dijk in that scenario, did Liverpool also lose the equivalent of Romero, Vicario, Maddison, Udogie, Kulu, Solanke, Son, Johnson, Odobert, Bergvall, etc, most for long stretches of the season and numerous of them at the same time?

No. No they did not.

Neither did we, as it happens. Kulusevski was fully fit all season up to March, for a start.

Remind us how both our CBs got injured, then thrown immediately into a set of ridiculous "who we are mate" tactics that immediately did both player's hamstrings in.

Liverpool did not do that, because they didn't have an idiot in charge.

One thing I'm certain of is that if we'd sacked Postecoglou in season we wouldn't have won this trophy.

Weird thing to be certain about. It was almost entirely about beating Frankfurt (very achievable, rangers took them to pens) and after that you’re basically in the final.

Then you just have to beat a dismal United team and trophy won. The obstacles were not significant enough that we could be certain about anything.

We went in to the competition as one of the faves if not the fave.

Arteta hasn’t won jack shit. It’s the perfect angle.

I asked: if the scum decided Arteta wasn’t the man to win them the PL and CL, would they be hiring Frank or Rodgers?

Because we did just win something, so our next step should be to try and win the next level up from what we just won

That’s not how it works lol, as if Sevilla, Villareal, Frankfurt or most of the recent EL winners have ever looked at the CL or their leagues as the next step.

The Europa league and winning it has nothing to do with winning leagues or champions leagues, it’s a totally different level. It’s a competition almost specifically for teams who can’t win those things.

Of course it wouldn't but it was a one-off and I don't think there was enough to suggest ot had any endurance.

I didn't think you would allow sentiment to cloud the facts.
I have admitted that I am a tad sentimental and the facts are what happened last season - ie we finished 17th and we won a trophy. Unless people have a crystal ball, then who know what might have happened if Ange had been given another year? If he has more of the first team available and he has learnt how to be more pragmatic, then he would probably wouldn't repeat the disastrous league form.
Being realistic, it is highly unlikely that we are going to win the PL or CL, with our current set up. Therefore, we'd set our sights on EL, FAC or LC and a top 6 finish. I think Ange could achieve that.

Thought I would see if I could crowdfund an “Ange In Levy out” campaign as pretty sure I can convince every Australian on the planet to give me a tenner.

Turns out they won’t let you crowdfund £4bn.

Bastards.

That's why I stipulated "in-season" - if we'd started the season with a different manager we perhaps most likely win. (Or we don't like we haven't under countless better managers)

What I'm certain about is the dynamics of an in-season manager change in those circumstances. Half the squad crocked. Flirting with relegation. There is no way a new manager prioritises the EL over the bread and butter and there's no way the players have the belief of a crazy manager who has sworn they will win because he always does in the second season.

It's not a controversial opinion nor does it imply Postecoglou is a great manager.

It entirely depends. In season if the manager also sees it as his only chance to get European football I could see it. I could also see them not binning off the league to the same extent, but the reality is we shouldn’t ever need to in order to win the Europa.

It was an incredibly kind run of games to win a cup and a good manager basically just has to see us beat Frankfurt and we’re in to a cup final as AZ and Bodo just need the bare minimum focus.

I’ll credit Ange with us beating Frankfurt as they’re decent, but I could see loads of coaches achieving it.

There is nothing wrong with feeling this way or being sentimental - you are a fan. You're allowed to feel that. And you're allowed to wonder "what if". Don't let any of these grinches tell you otherwise.

But...as always we just have to rally around the next guy because that's what fans are supposed to do. (and I lknow I don't need to tell YOU that :D )

There's no precedent to hiring someone to take you up a level. We tried it with Mourinho and Conte and would have been far better hiring Sherwood again in all reality, because those two clowns just made a mess of everything
This is a great point. All the talking on here about how Frank, or Glasner, or Iraola won't win us the CL or PL, but it's so much more detailed than that.
Put any of them in the Real Madrid role, or PSG, or Bayern and they'd have a decent chance.

They're very good managers, however the quality of our playing staff, recruitment team, coaching team and medical team needs to be addressed if we want to have a realistic chance of winning these trophies.

I'm keen on De Zerbi after what he's done with Marseille, but Frank or Glasner would bring stability and certain improvement.

All you have to do is look at the first page of the poch manager thread and how many thought it was a bad idea and one even said we should keep sherwood lol. Stop melting down about who and just hope they come in and start well.

Fans of other clubs that are kicking off about him being sacked, would they take him?

With our talented squad we get 17th

Wasn't that talented when injuries hit. We play the following backline for months

Kinsky
Porro-gray-davies-spence

That's a relegation backline. The squad may not be 17th weak but its weak as baby shit.

Not one player gets into Woolwich's starting lineup, let alone Liverpool.
Levy has played the fans and Manager in a manner worthy of Lucifer himself

Of course you could. But seeing as Conte, Mourinho, Pochettino and Redknapp couldn't (with better teams) I'm going to suggest it took this incredibly weird and fucked way for us to get finally do it.
