The problem with debate is that it requires both parties to approach the process in good faith. On this forum, there tends to be no respectful engagement, there are personal insults, there is no willingness to acknowledge the validity of some points made by the other side. All too often, we end up with endless posts saying the same bloody thing over and over again. Page after page after endless page.
Recently, I've begun to slip into the same habit. That stops now..

You’ve been here 5 years!! I gave up long ago expecting to have any meaningful debate about football on here.

People choose a hill to die on and just defend it.

The sky is not blue. Blood is not red. Poch is shit. Ange is shit. Levy eats babies. It’s a great place to come to engage with mentalists.

Beats watching Bridgerton that’s for sure.

That's not the same thing though is it - there are actual methods in data science (Winsorization, Trimmed Mean, Regression to the Mean) to prevent over-weighting a series due to a small number of anomalies.
Your comparison is not the same, because if you take away the last 10 games of last season, we had 34 from 28 - making 1.21 ppg, or 46pts over a full season, ergo 14th position ignoring causality.

So “if you take away the first 10 games of the season we would have finished mid table” is pretty much exactly the same outcome as “if you take away the last 10 games of the season we would have finished mid table”
Didn't someone say "you can prove anything with statistics"?

Aren't you one of the people who try to ignore the last 10 games or so because "he was throwing the league to focus on the Europa"?

Sarcastic Charlie And The Chocolate Factory GIF
To me that was one of the worst things he ever said. Plus he was just trying to save his own skin with this extremely spurious claim. Anyone, even him could see we stood an excellent chance of doing well in the Europa due to the mostly poor standards so he chose the lesser of two evils to try and save his job...total self serving bullshit comment...a decent manager would never say he's throwing the league...

At last. We have it..

Its the fact that this Fat Cunt from some football backwater with a shit CV, got us up from 8 th to fifth, narrowly missing top 4 and Champions League in hisFIRST season in our glorious Premier League WITHOUT Kane ( worth at least 12 point per season on his own).

But The Fat Cunt didn't stop there.

He navigated the ONLY path left to the Club's stated objective of Champions League qualification, and won us our ONLY trophy ion decades.

This Fat Cunt with nothing but 5 trophies in Scotland, one in the J -League and Four in Australia, was rightly sacked and replaced by a European with Premier League experience that had won nothing, ever and sent the club in a relegation fight.

Did I get it right?
Not really...

Funny that because he said that he knew he was going to get sacked as far back as Jan so I don't really buy the BS about him trying to save his job.

If anything it's more self serving to win a trophy, he could have easily taken the easy way out and prioritised the league and fucked the cups off and put it down tk typical Spurs luck but he gambled and took the most difficult route, he said he always wins things in his 2nd season in Jan and he backed his talk and did the impossible, what a guy!

Almost anything beats watching Bridgerton...
Stupidest programme I've seen in years..I quite like history to be even vaguely factual...

Doubtful Iraola will get a bigger job than Spurs, that's what he should be judged on after all he's a 'winner' and the next club ha goes to he needs to actually win something to reach the exceptional standard.

He’ll get a bigger job than Bournemouth, who wouldn’t touch Ange now. Ange won’t get near a spurs sized club anymore; he’d be very lucky to be recruited by a team battling relegation.

Likely he goes to Greece or Japan or back to where he is viewed as a “winner” and has his fan club. In England he is a mouth who they like getting on pundit shows.

Do you think he will get a bigger job than Spurs, this is the acid test of your 'winner' claims, if he does then fair play if he doesn't then I don't see how you can declare someone a winner if you're not even at a club who's aim is to win?

Dramatic license and all that jazz.
I was once a dwarf in a groundbreaking production of Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.
I’m 6ft 4.

However Bridgerton just seems boring as hell whenever I wander in the room and my other half is watching it.

Nothing ever happens! Very strange programme.
Needs more helicopters in my opinion.

I think both his backers and his haters would agree that his facility with the English language is his strongest attribute.

Like with Mourinho I kinda hope he just becomes a full time pundit. Blimey, imagine the two of them on a panel.

Still going eh?

Even after we sacked him and we immediately went flying up the table and are now on the cusp of our best season ever?

SMH...

:ange-bored:

It’s so funny that you think winning a tier 2 trophy is more brilliant than reaching CL finals or fighting for league titles.

Under Poch we battled the elite. We beat city and Madrid in Europe, not Bodo and AZ Alkmaar. Your logic is equivalent to being too shit for the A team at school, starring at the B team and acting like you’re more of a “winner” than the A players who didn’t win a league.

It’s pathetic mate.
Poch bottled it in the CL Final when he played a 50% fit Kane:
Was he told to do so or was it his decision doesn't matter!
The fact that we played in the most important final in the clubs history intentionally undermanned,
should be enough to not warrant him returning to this club any time soon in the future.
Ange won us a European trophy and for that I am truly grateful!

My point is even with our best CBs in place, teams still carved us open and Vicario saved us with that series of outstanding point blank saves during the first 10 matches. That meant we outscored the opposition and won matches. It was akin to saving a couple of penalties per match, the opposing attackers were absolutely clean through on goal.
Right. And what I’m saying is that at that stage it was more than counterbalanced by the number and quality of chances created at the other end, which all the metrics suggested gave us a great chance of winning matches regardless of what the defence was giving up. Clearly that changed when 3 of the 4 first choice defenders were out.

I mean you talk as if the idea behind bringing in a goalkeeper like Vacario wasn’t for the very reason that he was known to be a great shot stopper - that’s literally why he was signed! Similarly VDV’s recovery pace was absolutely crucial to the way Postecoglou played and he was recruited for that reason. So the chances conceded you refer to were factored in.

Ultimately every system has trade-offs and can be exploited. You only have to look at what came after with Frank. I mean, HELLO: did anyone order record low xG and basically zero attacking cohesion?

Ange’s system gave up those clear openings on the break and left big spaces in the wide areas. It also created a shit ton of good opportunities at the other end that lead to a lot of goals on the way to a 5th place finish (the first season after losing Kane, not for nothing) Perhaps the biggest issue though was that it was heavily reliant on players who could perform very specific roles, and when they were out like the aforementioned VDV, the whole risk to reward ratio flipped on its head.

If Vicario hadn't have been playing like Superman we would have lost or drawn most of those 10 matches. The defence was a shambles, even with the first choice players.. We would have needed to have scored about 4 goals per game if not for some utterly astonishing point blank saves from Vicario.

I think we've reached an impasse and I have no desire to change your mind.
