Not sure where else to put this, but well done to all the coaching staff and players for getting through a pretty high-intensity preseason and arriving at the starting line with essentially everybody fit and ready to play. Biss's suspension the only black mark really.

All sounds nice, but is, ultimately, pretty empty without him being given/demanding the proper quality tools to be able to that.

Plus installing solid, cohesive defensive framework.

AND set-pieces sorted.

I'd love to ride along with all the "winning" talk, because it's the right attitude, but I need to see some improvements to core deficiencies in our game.

Then I'd have more confidence in what he's saying.
Action > words

Someone can say they want to win everything and challenge at the highest level, - and hold it as an urgent goal - but I need to SEE the components materialise to facilitate that.

We seem to have embarked on a new youth project, tho.

There's no magic - as much of a magician Ange might think he is - and this will now take time to come together properly.

Especially due to the way Ange plays, as there is an inherent destabilisation element to this system (defence).

If this is a 3-5 year youth arc, cool.

Just say that and let's all be honest and let the fans mentally adjust and lower expectations and look to that kind of success in the future.

Don't feed them hopium on IV.

And don't you ever accuse them of not wanting to win things.

I don't like being gaslit.

I don't like being lied to.

I don't respect it.

Fans pay through the nose for this club.

Be straight with them.

At least do that.

We were never signing these young players in a year or because they’d be beyond us and at clubs that regularly win it all.

Surely you can see buying them ahead of time and aiming to mix them with select established players fits perfectly with a plan to win it all with a club like this?

I think people have gotten too comfortable blaming set pieces for our problems. That all started Vs City in the FA Cup.
IIRC, 2 of Newcastles goals were open play. Al 3 or Fulhams were? 1 or 2 of Woolwich's. How many of Liverpools?
We're wide open to expose. It's mostly tactics, but sometimes players need to take a bit of responsibility. We're playing players onside by standing deep in their half. They can have a head start of VdV and still be onside.

We suck at pretty much all the basic elements of defending.

ts all well & good signing these young players but when will they get a chance to play, we can't even get our HG lads on the pitch, due to us giving goals up easily.

I’m sure that was why.

Being tactically naive, having no defensive nous on corners and playing suicidal high line football against fast pressing sides also didn't help, but I'm pretty sure that only having your four best defenders available for less than half a season and consequently losing ten of the games that you couldn't field one or more of them for also contributed. Some of these losses we only had Porro of the 4. And he can't defend. 🤣

Tell you what sickened me......it took months for our coaching brains trust to stick a mean bastard in front of Vicario and start pushing the bloke backing in. Worse case scenario the ref bollocks them both and books both players. People on here were screaming this from the first time he was targeted it has and did scared me.

I hope your right mate, set piece play is something we need to massively improve on, if we are aiming to do well this year.
I can't figure out why Postecoglou doesn't want a dedicated set piece coach. Perhaps he believes it will take training time from things he prioritizes. An alternate theory is he is just that stubborn and set in his ways that he'd rather give up goals than entertain the idea he's wrong.

A lot depends on what happens as the current core group gains experience and their salaries increase. Is this a plan to win it all, or a plan to control costs while playing entertaining football? There is a transfer spend component and a salary spend component. Over time we should see both rise.
