Wait, who is our fourth captain?

It was good to see major tactical adjustment from Ange today. Porro and Udogie were mainly staying wide and not cluttering up the central areas, we moved the ball forward much quicker and didn’t try to retain possession pointlessly in our half. More of this please.

Just last week he told us all that every game was big and thus there's no distinction or need to qualify any of them as such??

Why wasn't the NLD allowed the same status as Manure has now been given?

This is why people have a problem with certain aspects of Ange and his inconsistencies with messaging.

Anyway, he's had a good day, so well done on the win.

He said it to take the pressure off the players.

Should have scored more. Could have conceded more.

Pep Guardiola: “My job is taking you to the final 3rd and your job is to finish. Postecoglou did that part5 of his job today.

But still needs to sort out the defending, we seem too vulnerable

After that performance there is no way that Ange should go. He clearly showed that he can adapt and change his tactics

Fullbacks did not invert as often. Wingers played more central to link up with Solanke so he was not isolated. Opponents have been keeping their defence compact meaning our striker was battling against 2-3 central defenders but against Brentford they could not cope with more of our players being central.

The most important thing he changed was the possession. It’s no coincidence that we only had about 50% possession. We played more direct and faster ball forward in transition. This meant we did give the ball back to Brentford more often but it actually meant they had to play more and it dragged them out which left more space in behind for Johnson and Son to exploit.

Still lots to work on. The finishing was no where near as clinical as it should be. We still hesitate to cross the ball for Solanke which I don’t understand as he scored a number of goals with his head for Bournemouth. At the back we lose focus at times. I was watching the Brentford players off the ball and too many times they creeping in to the box without being tracked.

Yes, can see it in the WhoScored heatmaps:

Brentford also stretched wider defensively

We limited Brentford to their second lowest xG of the entire calendar year.

I think from open play we've defended pretty well this season tbh but there just seems to be small lapses of concentration from individuals, which isn't really system a system issue.

But then again, our system is to win the ball back as quick as possible and aggressively so if that's bypassed there's always going to be a chance. Nature of the way we play, but taking that style of play into consideration, we've done well.

I'd be curious to hear what Ozzz Ozzz is predicting, given that they were pretty close to the money with this post way back in August 2023:
Thanks, I was pretty chuffed with that prediction myself...

This year? I'm really not sure, to be honest. I was worried he might be losing the dressing room, but after last night I doubt that's the case.

The side are playing well enough - generally - and have been a little unlucky, but the finishing needs to be far better. As others have suggested, Solanke's strength in the air is not being properly exploited with early crosses.

Man City, Woolwich and Liverpool look like they'll certainly be top three so there's only one spot to fight for in the top four. If Ange can improve the team in January with a top class defender, a really strong passing midfielder and maybe a super pacy winger then top four remains possible. If he doesn't then I suspect it will be 6th, 7th or 8th.

He does usually win something in his second season so maybe he'll throw everything at Europe and the cups.

I, for one, remain convinced he has it in him to do well in the EPL. He's done well everywhere else and was regarded by good judges (eg Pep) as one of the best in the world while he was still at Yokohama.

But there is no tougher league than the EPL so the onus is on Ange to apply his football philosophy, man management skills and powers of inspiration in an environment far more challenging than any he's previously encountered. He has to grow, as well as the team.

I’d like to say that you wouldn’t know at games that there was any problem with Ange from the fans. His song is sung and everyone seems happy with him. I think it really is more online than actually at games. Interesting as it’s something to remember that reality is sometimes more important. Armchair fans don’t get to see the whole picture at games.

The system seems to be creating a lot of chances but games like Leicester you feel we could have played all week and not scored,
Is that on the manager or players? I don’t think we are the kind of team that will
Get many 1-0 wins or keep many clean sheets so I think in January we need to upgrade on Richie as that’s a position I’m worried about !
I know he was good when fit but for whatever reason he isn’t available and we have no room for passengers!

Our defensive record in the league this season is incredibly better because of how near perfect our press has been. Defending from the front, quite literally.

It's almost like from a set position is where we have struggled in conceding this season when the press is out of the question.

If I'm not mistaken, Leicester and both Newcastle goals came from initial throw ins (although Maddison was too slow to Joelinton). Woolwich's was from a set piece and Brentford was basically from kick off. I can't stress how much better we are controlling games this season.

But a game like yesterday was on the cards. We have been good this season but really haven't had the luck. We should have been out of sight against Leicester. We shouldn't have lost to Newcastle. It's almost as if that Coventry game was a bit of a wake up call.

I've been busy this weekend so been removed from the footy but a genuine thought crossed my mind before yesterday's game...

There was lots of talk about how things were toxic on here. Is this something that's reflected at the stadium or is it just that the 'hard to please' lot on here and Twitter moan the loudest?

Bit harder to judge after yesterday not though.

Oh and Angeball...?

So Excited Flirting GIF
