It's the comments like 'weak Man Utd side' that crack me up, any old excuse to be miserable about your own club you support.
yea its madness to call them weak, they are only 14th. its not like their manager is fave to be first sacked either.

And without being down to ten men, they might have been able to get back into the game.

We were absolutely brilliant against Brighton for half an hour or so. We fell apart in a similar amount of time. It's hard to say if we are on the cusp of being good, or if this is as good as it gets.

We have some good underlying stats, but not very good results. Positive spin is to say the results will turn to match the stats. But you could look at it another way and ask, what if the stats dip a bit? Will we get even worse results? They say champions get results whilst playing badly. We are playing good stuff at times and still losing games.

Well, we're actually better.

In fact, we're better in almost every conceivable way across most metrics to last season and have nearly rectified every negative thing most had on Ange and his system last season.

High line causing us to concede on the counter? Improved on it.

Set pieces? Improved on it.

After Brighton, quite obviously need to improve on the mentality after leading in games and most definitely need players to cut out their stupid mistakes.

Results aside, this isn't a bad start 14 months into a huge rebuild though regardless of whether or not we had a poor 45 against Brighton. Though I also am aware it's fun to be a little reactionary after any loss and points on the board are what ultimately matter.

As most statisticians will tell you though, these things sort themselves out over the course of a season (Chelsea proved that last year) - 100% record in the cups whilst using the squad and blooding through youngsters, 3rd best xGA in the league, second best xG, 3rd in the league for xPTS.

Unless our performances SERIOUSLY dip, we are more likely to go on another run of 5 wins on the bounce and shoot straight up the league. And hell, If they improve? Then we're in for something pretty damn good.

But I'm also aware a select few on here absolutely refuse to back the manager so I really can't be arsed to argue the stats anymore and will instead just let it play out and see where we are come the end of the season. It's tiring and quite frankly exhausting listening to bullshit narratives and lazy discussion constantly by the same folk
Wait, I thought 7 games was too early to be judging the season?

I agree that the current available alternatives are dreadful but not sure 'well the other options are shit' is exactly a vote of confidence in what he's doing and shouldnt be seen as a get out of jail free card. That doesnt mean sack him now but if we lost to West Ham i think we're in the area of having that conversation. (For what its worth i think we'll beat them)
1 more loss after 5 wins in a row and we’re having a conversation about sacking the manager? I think we should be poking at the big picture on this one. Remember Klopp missed top 4 a number of years and there was never talk about sacking him. What is the issue with giving a manager 2-3 full seasons?

It's one of his stranger takes for sure. It was like he was saying he was punishing the fans to make a point to the players.
I'm in the minority who was on his side when we played City end of last season, I don't think there's ever a time to go easy or throw a match, even if it hands the scum a league title. But this one, to paraphrase... I didn't want to try to change the game by making subs to mask how bad we'd been. That's some odd stuff right there. But it feels like it was actually his thought process in game and not just making up words after the fact.

Weird.
Thought he was a winner so you’d expect him to do something to try to win the game. Instead he does nothing of note and accepts our fate. He talks so much BS it all contradicts itself.

Do you forget that Klopp had won the Bundesliga twice with Dortmund and taken them to a CL final?? Bloke was wanted by all the big clubs and you think this joker who doesn’t think subs matter can be compared to him?

you must forgive his fans, the wins against carrier bag, coventry and some other european minnows are the sort of standard they are used to watching kamikaze ange win against. so to them thats a solid bit of form.

Since when has Man Utd away been easy for Spurs?

Since they started routinely getting humped at home (when did they last win a big home game vs a top 6 side?) and their team basically fell apart?

You are looking at name & history rather than the team they are this season. The only reason their coach is in a job is because they can’t afford to sack him.

It was a good performance and a good win but United away sounds about 100x scarier than it actually is. I’d be more worried playing Fulham away these days.

The point is, you can’t keep thinking of sacking managers after a loss. It creates instability and it also allows the players not to take any responsibility. That’s a major problem in this club, the players have been conditioned over the years to give up because they know that Levy will just sack the manager. The players have been getting away this for 20 years.

20 -25 years ago there were only 4 strong teams in the premier league. Now there are 8 strong teams. The EPL standard is the best I’ve ever seen it. Sure we want to be top 4 but finishing 7th in this league is not a poor season for a young squad

It's actually wild how much people are allowing 45 minutes to change the narrative of our season.

The narrative of our season? Fucking hell.

Before the Utd game sky were pitching the game as two managers under pressure due to a shit start. If anything you (and others) allowed a single win to change the narrative. Oh and some wins against Europe’s fodder and Brentford at home.

As others have said, worst start for 16 years. Oh and we lost to our biggest rivals at home. But I guess some nice ‘’’underlying stats’’’ mean we should all be delighted.

It's our worst start to a league campaign for 16 years. That's the narrative of 7 matches. Not 45 minutes.
I think you might be overreacting a bit...

Our points after 7 games:

10
17
17
12

15
14

At half time we looked like we would be getting another 3 points which would have put us above our average points after 7 games and would have been out 8th best start over those 16 years. 2013 we got our best ever points total and only had 4 points more than we do now. Our highest finish we only had 2 points more than we do now. Obviously it's not been a good start but we have probably deserved more points than we got based off performances. It's hardly disastrous though.

He needs more time.

YES results are not optimal, fully agreed.

However, performance (stats too) in most games this season suggests we should have gotten more points. Leicester, Newcastle, Scum, Brighton.
Not saying we should have won them all, but a draw or 2 and a couple of wins would not have been shocking considering some of our play.

Often THIS season the issues causing goals have been players faults not the fault of his system. It seems they are getting it but it's taking longer because it's so radical and this is the toughest league. The way we attack now is so much better and gives me hope as we are starting to be more ruthless. Yet we still need to go up another level or 2 as the Brighton game showed... I think compared to last season the style of play IS improved, and we are conceding less goals /chances, we are creating and scoring more (since Coventry) and we are not getting done by setplays every other game or fucked by the High line. These are facts, the stats have shown this. Our pressing is much improved too, Solanke is great at leading this.
Most things point towards a team on the verge of getting their shit together, not of a team in complete disarray and getting beat 2 or 3 nil every week which is how some people seem to think we are doing 🤦🏻

Issues we face are:
Mentality (still)
Thin squad
Brain farts
Getting used to Thursday / Sunday ( fatigue )

Lastly, please stop taking everything he says so literally. The cunts who shove a mic in his face after the game annoy the fuck out of me. How annoyed do you think he is after a loss to have to answer shit questions which are none of anyone's business. I completely understand he just wants to mug them off and get the fuck out of there. In the press conferences where he is behind the desk you see him calm, relaxed, jovial and insightful, for like 30 minutes. But of course everyone picks on his quick comments when he is at his most pissed off and judge him.

Don’t know why you bother to respond. He’s only here to wind you up and stir up the whiners with a little help from his Woolwich friend.

This was said after we beat them that day, oh how times have changed 😂

This is the result of a stubborn manager. Simple as that.

A team of Liverpool’s size can’t have an ENTIRE defense playing that poorly, just can’t. Liverpool could have a proper defense, but Klopp is too stubborn to see how much of a Championship level our defense is.

Look how organized Tottenham's defence was. Like clockwork. It's not only the ability of our defenders, Klopp is doing something massively wrong himself.
Yes, and this was Liverpool's back 5 that day:

Mignolet; Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Moreno

Conversely Ange has one of the best back 5s in the league. Certainly our best since peak Poch. The fact he has this level of quality in his back line and we're still conceding for fun is as big an indictment as any.

Thought he was a winner so you’d expect him to do something to try to win the game. Instead he does nothing of note and accepts our fate. He talks so much BS it all contradicts itself.
Why win the game when you can teach the players a lesson?

Sure we want to be top 4 but finishing 7th in this league is not a poor season for a young squad
We've had the 2nd highest transfer spend in the league since Ange joined. Finishing 7th would be a disgrace.
