It's a very competitive league and if he wins it will be with his third Italian team.
Inter hadn't won it in years before he did. Napoli have won it once in 30+ years.
Napoli have been one of the top teams winning it 2 year ago. Inter one of the best and biggest teams. Juve the biggest team in Italy plus in dodgy circumstances.
He hasnt taken an atalanta, fiorentina, bologna etc up to near top of table. Hes a good manager dont get me wrong but needs tons of money for the league hes in and is short term

I appreciate that, the team played better second half, however they never looked like getting anything from today.
I think they are probably better off leaving ange in charge until the summer, if he can win a couple more games then should be enough to stop getting sucked into the bottom 3 scrap.
Soon as season is over they can review and bin him off.

It’s not that I don’t want to win minor cups- I do- I just really prioritize league finish and CL. I don’t think it’s realistic to hope for cup success when league form is this bad, however. I do think another manager would give us a better chance in the cups.
Finishing 5th-17th in the league is utterly immaterial if you win the EL, however. Financially, it's more beneficial to be 17th in the league and win the EL than to be 5th in the league and lose the EL.

League position only matters if we don't win the EL, and then it's only so that we have a chance to try and win our way into the CL next season.

In terms of attractiveness to players, it's more attractive to pay top wages. Our wage budget is controlled by our revenue. Ergo, what's best for the revenue stream is best for the squad.

The Europa League isn't a "minor cup", nor should it be looked at as such. The "major trophies" you're targeting are something Tottenham haven't won in over 60 years, so it's a little misguided to act as if that's the standard by which we should be judged.

You don't get it do you?? you really don't?

We have gained five points from a possible 24 (DLLWLLDL). To put that into perspective Ipswich have picked up 7 in that period, Wolves 7, Everton 6. Only Leicester with 4 and Southampton have picked up less.

If we do as the original poster (something that you cosigned) suggests and rotate for the league games to prioritise the cup games because the league is "irrelevant" there is a good chance we will be in a relegation fight and might actually get relegated.

It's the most thick as pig shit idea I've ever heard and you praised the man's "clear head" after reading it.

Do you think our form will continue like this?

Do you not think if we get some players back on the pitch we will improve or do you just think we will keep losing matches even with our strongest team on the pitch or even if you get your wish and sack the manager?

Newcastle were comfortable defending their lead until Son, Madders and Reggie were brought in. You just wonder why Ange sticks with Brennan. Worst footballer I've seen at a top 6 club. Oh, forgot we're 12th. Makes a bit more sense now.

This is a defeatist mentality and pretty typical of our fanbase, we have a lot of losers as fans and you come across like the typical SAPS no offence.

Whilst I appreciate the food doom mongering to say that we have no chance of winning is bullshit which is manifested by our fanbase because they're not used to winning, it's also a trope said by rival fans in order to mock us.

At the end of the day we are on one of the favs to win the EL, it's a cup comp so you don't even need to be the best to win it, you just have to have enough on the day

2 things can be true by the way, there's a world out there where you can think they we get some players back on the pitch and even if you're Ange out we could even have a new manager in charge to the point where you can improve in both competitions, not just one.

But your assertation of calling the domestic and EL Cups as Mickey Mouse collar is stupid, your alternative scenario of winning the league and the CL isn't possible or realistic, any Spurs fans that says that is a loser sorry.
You’re genuinely hilarious- keep it up. Calling me defeatist because I insist on competing in the league- you need a reality check.

As I said- enjoy your fantasy cup run. Disregarding all of the past performance and thinking it’s genuinely of no bearing on chances of success in a cup are just not rational positions in my opinion. Good luck, mate.

It's mental.

People can't be this deluded?!

We are going out against Liverpool on Wednesday. Even if we somehow get a result, they'll just batter us at Anfield in the second leg. Surely there is nothing in this side you can see which makes you think we have the ability to beat the best team in the league over two legs? We shat the bed at home to United and that was only one leg. We somehow let them back into it, if we had to go to Old Trafford for the second leg we'd have probably thrown it away.

The Europa league we've been played off the park in Turkey and even by Rangers. This team has fk all chance of winning that cup. As soon as we face a good team, we'll be out. We are a genuinely awful football side under Ange.

We generally play like shite and lose, sometimes play decent like today and lose. That's just who we are.

It is relegation form isn't it, his record overall doesn't show any improvement, which you would expect in the second season, in fact they are worse.
Some people are so desperate to think he is the man, they are willing to give him more time than he should get, at what point do these people say it isn't working.

We aren't winning any cups this season ffs man.

Would you rather go strong in a cup match knowing that it could get you into a semi final or go stronger for a lesgue match knowing if would get you into 10th?

Because this is the point by the way, the league is pretty much over so why would you want to prioritise that over a cup? It doesn't make any sense.

Ok Will. It’s got a good pot of money and automatic promotion to CL- but we still need to beat the same folks we should be trying to compete with in the league. We are so far from that. I don’t think we can win in cups.

That is the reason I can't commit to the Ange-out train yet. The players are clearly not downing tools.

I remain Angenostic but we're not in a normal situation right now. I have never, in four decades, felt so conflicted about a manager.
Funny....I've never felt less conflicted. The guy is a fraud.

He's been serving up Ramos level results for 14 months. Can't for the life of me think why those first 10 games are weighted so heavily in the judgement of so many. There's no reason to think those results are coming back....this guy is shite.

And apparently the happy clappers are the issue.

Why fucking bother at all then?!

While we're in the cups - one being a two-legged semi final - we have a chance.

We can bother, we can hope to win, but we won't because we are a shite football side. I mean, it's football, anything can happen, but for me the league is always the priority, it's the barometer. Bad teams don't win cups, it's rare as unicorn poo.

We could win a cup this season and get that monkey off our back, but we need to be fighting at the top of the league, and under Ange we never will.

Winning a league cup and finishing 13th will be fucking shite once the cup win wears off, and it will very quickly when you are getting pumped in the league every week.

Earth calling Shadydan Shadydan

the original poster stated the league is irrelevant and we should rotate to prioritise the cups.

If we fucking do that then we wouldn't be having "our strongest team on the pitch" in the league would we. Deary fucking me.

The chances of us beating them and advancing under Ange are nil, I might even give Mason’s Mates a better chance.

The board seems to have set this up as the reason he’ll be sacked, but it’s a shame because if we’d done it at the first international break we could be seeing some positive results and maybe some transfer business now. That would have given us the best chance at a cup trophy overall.

We’ve had no press leaks about his future since that was reported. Feels like it was ages ago but I suspect it wasn’t. I think they’ll be talking to caretakers now to steady the ship for the rest of the season. Someone will do it but they’ll be a basic manager. It won’t be anyone with any bells and whistles. Personally I’d go for someone with CL/EL experience to try and get us through the cups.
