That's one of the worst misses I've seen. Just terrible timing and coordination. On top of that he doesn't have a left foot. Never seen him use it ever once.
Son has scored screamers with both feet. It would make more sense to play Son on the right as he can both beat a man and cut in and curl with his left foot.
While Son is still here, why bench him in favour of BJ. If your aim is winning, why not start with the strongest team?

For BJ's shot, he can only shoot with the inside of his foot. It's greatly limiting his ability as a finisher. Yesterday showed that. The finish was pathetic. We're not talking about a junior player. We're talking about a so called 50 M wonder kid. I've seen three year olds striking cleaner than BJ.

It's not his fault, but the blame is on Ange for 1) not spotting this and 2) to keep playing him despite him limiting our game. It's really infuriating when we can have such good attack as we had against Southampton and Man City. The two recent games when BJ didn't start.

I am an Aussie passionate about football and have seen Ange come up the ranks as I once played at the local club he grew up playing and coaching.

I don't consider the celtic 'rebuild' and dominance his greatest achievement. This guy has the ability to go with youth and turn them into a force of reckoning.

In Australia we have salary capped competition thats designed to be even yet he turned an average team into such a dominant force it was beyond ridiculous.

He then took on the National job and said bye bye to our ageing senior players and stuck with youth in the world cup. We lost all three games but we walked away proud seeing our youth take on world class teams and showing they have what it takes to be in the competition. He then led that team to an Asia Cup years later

This guy is special and picks clubs who lack identify and sets them up for long term success. Don't be fixated on the results YET but continue to look at his philosophy which is to attack and score goals. He will happily concede 3 as long as he scores 4. He sets out to win no matter the opposition.

It hasnt the greatest of seasons and there is work to do but he thrives on this. He's creating a culture that doesn't make excuses for injuries/youth/lack of transfers etc.

I personally credit his stubburness because if he wants to change the mindset of the team he needs to be. This is a journey that he sets the challenge for the players. If he changes his playing philosophy then I'd be more worried because hes going for short term gain over long term success.

A few adjustments to the squad and some returns from injuries and I think we'll have a dominate force again.

At the very least, try show support until the very end so the next manager knows he will have the backing and not be sacked when things get tough like the predecessors.

Do you think? Even if out of all three cups in Feb and bottom 4 or 5 in league? I think he'd be a goner in that situation (which is at the bottom end of the range I know, but by no means impossible.

Any investment might be sorted by then, a wider choice of candidates come summer (they probably have 1 or 2 already in mind) and they can point to giving a manager 2 whole seasons but plans dont always work like that. He has to win some league games soon. Lose to Woolwich and Everton and we could easily be 15th, the board would get too twitchy to let that drag on.

Yeah sure there would be nothing to save the season then. We could sack him and let Mason finish out the season but ultimately we are not bringing in a new manager until May regardless so the club won't panic

That's what I think too. If a miracle happens and we beat Liverpool, then he has bought himself some time. More likely the season is going to start feeling different as we start exiting cups.

I think that is the thought process. I think the board will be confident that results will pick up once they get key players back fit. If things keep getting worse then yes that could change and we could have Mason as head coach by March! But I'd be confident that our worst spell is over now.

Either way, I'd say its very unlikely he will get next season. The league position this year will tell the story and it won't show progress. He'll need to win a cup to still be here next season and even if he did that, I think the club could look at the Tenh Hag situation at United and just think did the cup win only cover over the cracks. I'd be amazed if he's still here next season tbh, but I think he'll finish the season.

I've watched enough football in my day and it's clear as day to me that Johnson has very limited technique in general and he can't strike through the ball like he tried to.
What you got from Johnson there is the same as you will get from him in the future. A guy who can't dribble, can't beat his man, can't see good passes. The least think you'd expect is that he can at least strike a ball when the opportunity is presented, but he can't even do that.

What is he actually good at? Because he's getting so much game time but all but 2 or 3 of his goals in the league were tap ins.
They said that Kane scored tap ins too. Well, that's kind of true but he could also score other chances. If ALL you do is scoring tap ins, you really suck because you can be replaced by anyone who can do the same.

100%. I think he'll be very lucky to get next season. My position is that I don't see any benefit to sacking him now if the right options (Iraola/Frank) are not available. The end game is we get to may and reassess and he'll need to have won a cup to have any chance of getting next season!

I expect we will be out the Carabao soon.

We should make the top 8 in the Europa, but if we lose away from home we may well not. Huge balls-up this tbh. We haven't looked good in that tournament all season though.

Tamworth is a key game for Ange. Don't think Levy could take that humiliation. But assuming he gets past that and we're still in the Europa (i.e. either top 8 or into 16 play-off) then the league is where Ange could "slip up" Everton away is looking massive tbh. If we lose our next couple of league games it's really starting to look like freefall.

So I could see possibly the sack at:

- out the Carabao
- Still in FA Cup
- Into Europa play-off round
- Freefall in league

That might be optimistic. It might take us to go out of one of the other cups, along with a few league atrocities to get the old barnacle off the rock. I can't believe we have to be out of all three cups and bottom 4 or 5 in the league for him to go? What do people think is the endgame here? How will it end?

When your team is set up to play possession-based football, and the replacements are big drop-offs in ability to keep possession / play out from the back, it's a big adjustment. You either start hoofing it long, or need extra midfielders dropping back to help, or get caught in possession. All three of those affect your ability to control the game and create chances. Then when three of the replacements come down with flu and either can't play or have to drag themselves off their sick bed it becomes an injury crisis mate.


Bentancur (suspended) to Bissouma is a fair drop off IMO in terms of creativity in attack.


The same Richarlison who was our top goalscorer per 90 minutes last season? He netted 0.66 per 90 minutes, higher than Son (0.52), Kulusevski (0.26), Johnson (0.22) and Maddison (0.17). Would be kind of handy to have someone like that to rotate for Solanke and/or Son I would think.


Right because good football teams don't have creative defenders? Trent for Liverpool, Gvardiol for City, Trippier for Newcastle, ...

More than one goal per game? Mate we've scored 14 in our last 6 EPL games. Goal scoring hasn't dropped off, which is commendable considering the drop-off in service due to less effective play by our 2nd and 3rd string defenders.

The problem is we've conceded 15 goals in those same 6 games, the same number as we conceded in our first 14 games (15).


So we're deluded because we think our recent performance, particularly defensively, is not due to some significant degree by the loss of our first choice GK and CB's? Are we more deluded than someone who is trying to convince themselves that there is no injury crisis?

Europa league, OK he scored one. Tame shot but good placement. A bit too good to think it was not pure luck. Bouncing and all, just to go in through the inside of the post. No way he aimed for that. But OK, against limited competition he may be able to if the bounce is lucky.
Compare that with the venom that a guy like Son hits those with. Could you even imagine BJ scoring something like it?

You can't compare those players. Son is from a different planet. So why on earth is BJ starting ahead of him?

I'd have thought two wins would virtually guarantee Top 8 and it might well happen with 4 pts. But difficult with 3, I agree.
