"I'm very worried about the fragility of Archie Gray, who is an absolutely wonderful footballer, who should absolutely not be playing central defence in his late teens."

WALOB. He's playing Premier League football in his late teens, why on earth would that be bad?
Genuinely have no idea how some of these people get paid to write about football.

The smallest modicum of research would find the list of young players who have played other positions to get experience in their teens is not short and includes some of the very best players in the history of the sport.

The only reason for someone who knows anything about player development to write that is if they are prepared to sacrifice their integrity for some cheap hate bait.
This is the chief football writer of the Newyork Times!?..oh deary me. I'm.going to be nobel and avoid making inferences about America and the game.

At the age of 10, his parents decided to change his surname, legally. ''It was a fad in those days to shorten your name if you were Greek, so that's what they did.'' Ange Postecoglou became Ange Postekos. He didn't think much about it until he was picked in an Australian youth team as an 18-year-old, and had to get his first passport. ''I never liked the name [Postekos] and I never used it,'' he says. ''I was proud of my background, but when it came to my first passport, and my first driver's licence, there was nothing I could do about it.''
Well yeah, the discussion was between Spaniel Spaniel and I as he thought his name was Postekogkou not Postekos.

Ange has always been like this. Making excuses and blaming the players. He failed big time in that role. What makes you think he will make it at Spurs?

He's already made it mate, no plan b unlike other tactically astute managers have said out loud, contrary to what people on here say that plan bs don't exist.

Losing most weeks, half a job ie doesn't train the defensive tactical side & is being blindly backed with a fat contract and not looking like losing his job.

He's made it.

16 points behind Nuno’s Forrest. Impressive

If that's in the penalty box I'd rate it 90% chance that penalty would be given. Defenders know this too, which is why we see them with their hands behind their backs in the "police arrest" position, which is NOTHING like a "natural position" to avoid handball.

He does nothing to avoid ball to hand contact. In fact his arm goes towards the ball.

There would not be single club that would agree with that call if it went against them.

If I thought he intended to handball it I'd say I thought he intended to handball it. I don't. Nor did the referee. Or the VAR team. Or the referee on ref watch .. or most people it would seem, to be honest. Quite a few don't like the rule or don't understand the rule, but very few think he meant to handball it.

I think we were unfortunate victims of an annoying technicality in the law as ultimately it did hit a hand and that did help lead to a goal. I don't think we are victims of a conspiracy ... that's where we differ and where we will always differ.

So, the reason that Ange is still safe is because of Scott Munn. He's the guy who convinced Levy to sign Postekos. Munn and Ange goes back a long way. They're good buddies. As long as Scott Munn is in his role, Ange will probably sit safe too.

It's worse than I had expected but finally starting to make sense.

In terms of Spurs mates I know I think we're all in agreement, we shouldn't sack him but if we keep going like this we probably will and then continue our merry-go-round from the past few years. Most of us were shocked how early Spurs fans turned on Ange, but I've always felt the perception of match going fans has been different to here and online, think the online Spurs fans give us a bad name tbh, only in the last few weeks has that tide actually been felt at games.

As for other clubs, I reckon most of them are surprised and seem to just be glad they don't have to pretend to like us. I think obviously it's going to be a different perception over here but seems like most are resigned to the fact we'll butcher this and sack him, then not know what to do next.
I don't agree that fans turned on him early or, in many cases, at all. The surprising aspect is that it took so long for any criticism to begin. Go back through posts in calendar years 2023 and 2024 and there was little or no criticism of the manager.

There’s a lot of support for Big Ange seemingly. It seems to be along the lines of;

1. We’ve an unprecedented injury crisis.
2. We’ll be grand once we have injured players back
3. We can’t keep sacking managers roughly every 18 months to 2 years.
4. Big Ange is a visionary, re-inventing the game.
5. He needs and Karrie me to implement his vision.
6. Let’s focus our ire (justified too) on Levy and Big Ange is not to blame.
7. Big Ange is a nice bloke.

Personally, my own long-standing view is he’s out of his depth and if we don’t act soon we could well be sleep walked into a real relegation battle.

Thats the td;dr version of this 2800 page thread.

Yes true. At first I was really sceptic about hiring an Australian who'd only done it at Celtic. It was such a strange choice. But you give him a chance still and support him. Still after the first season, I thought that he deserved one more. But those spotting him as early as Chelsea last year proved to be right. He just hasn't had enough exposure at the highest level except for a few CL games where he was thrashed for most of them.

It's not so strange in hindsight. Without experience, you're not ready. We've become an experiment for a second rate Aussie manager. He was entirely promoted by people he already knew well. He wasn't picked because he was the most fit.

Completely duped. Levy, this is your biggest mistake yet.

Would people still want him sacked if he somehow managed to win us a cup?
Some people would. Some fans genuinely don't want him to turn into our Erik ten Hag.

I never want any manager sacked and if he wins a trophy this year I will congratulate him for doing what he said he would, and doing what Mourinho ought to have had the opportunity to try.

Anyone wanna take a wild guess when our injury crisis started...

I thought Aussies were the most easy going folks on the planet. And they can say anything and it's not offensive.

Kiwis are probably more that way inclined tbh. Aussies are like that sometimes until they have their backs up.

Most cultures are easy going on the surface until you push them into displaying their cuntishness.

Interesting gordon came out and said after their defeat to Brentford they had a huge clear the air meeting and since then they’ve won 7 games in a row. Our bunch of pussies wouldn’t even think of doing that. They probably run away from confrontation.

I think it's a bit harsh. For example, they win 4-0 against Everton, 4-1 against West Ham, 4-0 against City away and yet every time any random 11 does well Ange completely changes the starting team midweek and at the next weekend. If we're looking to win 7 games in a row, I'd suggest not changing any winning team that we randomly stumble upon because if I was a player in that team I'd be lost myself.

Now show the only thing that ever matters in football - POINTS.

Results, results, results. We weren't doing well results wise pre injuries and we're not doing well results wise post injuries.

You and BC can wank to xG tables and graphs all you want, points mean prizes, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

The injuries just don’t let that happen though unfortunately. All part of the same Australian shaped problem.
