Sure - but isn't that just true for every single team every season except the very few that win? Ultimately, players with the most elite mentality have that from them - their commitment, their work, what they choose to put in day in and day out.

Harry failing to beat Portsmouth in a semi-final - failing to beat Stoke, Sunderland, QPR and Norwich in the run-in in his last season with a vastly superior team of world-class players like Walker, Modric, Bale, VDV, King was 100% down to him not being able to install a winning mentality -not the club - in my opinion. That was his job - i don't give a shit about the Nelson/Saha tired line - Redknapp failed with a team more than capable of winning the games i mentioned above.

Poch's limping out of trophies was also 100% down to tactics. Playing son at WB? Not changing things vs Juve in the CL in 2018 to defend a lead when Juve were starting to get on top.

All i hear from people is that ANge is fraud, Ange is shit, Ange is a Poundland manager, yet now its the clubs fault for not installing a better mentality in their ethos?

People need to pick a lane I think.

If they thing we are destined to fail before we ever even start then why even hate on the manager - why even support the club until there is new ownership?

I think he's last the rest of the season now. We're safe from relegation due to some very flukey points and Levy won't take the embarrassment of another mid season firing fiasco and putting Mason in charge again. i honestly think if he did that then things would get very nasty in the high road before the game and in the stadium during it. Levy would be very scared of some back page headlines on that.

it's so frustrating. If he'd fired him in Novemeber, even getting a caretaker with a proven PL record we would probably fancy ourselves to win the El, but as it is? I dont think we'll knock AZ out tomrrow .

Jesus wept, the Champions League Final and Sissoko’s handball…..it was as clear as day he was pointing and Mane deliberately aimed his kick at Sissoko’s arm. True Kane should not have started and that is down to Kane himself as well as Poch. Even s9 we were the better team and without Kane might have won.

What was wrong with starting Moura and Son and instructing them to run the LFC defence ragged for 70 mins and whoever was more knackered bring them off for Kane. Might not have worked but at least we could have seen some logic behind it.

Love Poch to bits but he messed up so many importatn cup ties (Juventus, Chavs, MUFC). Great coach, not so good at the managing.

We’ve been in situations where we could have and probably should have won & as you pointed out with several managers that suggests it’s a mentality thing . The majority of players you mentioned left . You’re not winning things is only 2 or 3 players have that fire , we don’t have that or have had that for ages

At the end of the day , it doesn’t really matter if I think it’s a club mentality stemming from the top as it doesn’t if you don’t . Repeated failures suggests it’s more than tactics , it could be just not getting in players who aren’t winners or fighters but as many have gone in to win things after leaving it does lean to a club problem

still not rewatched that game, but in hindsight he preformed a miracle getting that far with that squad.

he only beat liverpool once in his time with us, i dont think he wouldve ever managed it with the above players. It all circles back to Daniel Levy and his lack refreshing that squad when it needed it

Sure - and i think we have some common ground here - it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation - but I feel like the one hole in your thinking is that 99% of teams and players then don't have the mentality to win.

Because if it was just about the CLUB installing that winning mentality, then surely we would have seen more than just one or two clubs dominate at any given time over the entirety of the premier league.

I think it is really more to do with money - which people are saying shows the club's mentality - when clubs are willing to spend vast sums of money. This apparently translates to the players that they are serious about winning. Which, is, if we are honest, why this modern day version of football is souless bullshit.

The thing is , unlike many clubs , we have the resources to create a winning mentality but it doesn’t seem to be a priority hence my original point

He was the one that was giving de Ligt and co all the problems, they just couldnt handle him. couldnt believe letting him go after that.

decent hold up player, but he was no kane, son, sala or mane. our squad decline during that period was ridiculous

* Scored the goal against City to get us into the CL league.
* Scored a hat trick against Young Boys to get us into the CL proper.
* Scored the goal to beat Ac Milan and get us through to the quarters.

He was involved in 36 games over 2 seasons and scored 2 league goals.
I do appreciate that goals are not the be all and end all way to rate a forward, nor do I have the actual number of minutes played, but 2 league goals is probably why we let him leave.
He was 34 when he left, he went on to score 6 league goals in Italy & Spain in 53 games. It probably wasn't wrong to let him go.
