Leaving on a high note and looking relatively good instead of further spiralling downwards?
Giving up a huge wage / compensation pay-out when there is no way in hell he's getting a better-paid next job?

What's the point of 'looking relatively good' if he won't get a better job than this one?

I strongly suspect Ange's comments since the final are basically saying "if you want me out, you're gonna have to fire me" - and I don't blame him, most people would do the same (but I do hope to god that Levy does fire him, we can't have even another game of this blatantly uncoached nonsense).

It's not weird to believe that a club that ended 2nd in the EPL and reached the CL semi after beating Real M. in both games in the quaters, achieved more than a club that ended 17th in the EPL and won a secondary European title.
That does not take away the delight of winning the EL. But outside of Spurs (and Man Utd) few really cared that much. Woolwich's win over Real M. will be seen as a more impressive result.
Personally - and I know many Spurs fans feel the same - I much rather be in the position of Woolwich than Spurs right: ended 2nd in the EPL, reached the semis in the CL after knocking out the favorites, and believing they have a shoot at both the CL and EPL title next year. Would it happen? Most probably not.
Will Spurs be challenging for a EPL title or reaching a CL semi or final? Not impossible the but odds are very low. I am sure most Spurs fans will rather have Spurs end 4-5th next season so they can qualify for the CL rather than end 6-7 and end up in the EL (if they had a choice).
Anyway, believe what you want - you won't change my mind and you won't change yours.

What do you achieve for finishing 2nd, show me?

We were in the position that Woolwich were in now, what did we achieve then, what did it lead to?

I was talking to my old man about him at half time, and put Eddie Howe up as a comparison. He worked a lot of miracles at Bournemouth, but couldn't maintain it as he had the best of his team sold from under him.

He then got the Newcastle gig and, after a bit of up and down, has got them both a cup and CL. Maybe by the skin of his teeth, but he's still building a squad to compete at the very highest level.

I can see that kind of managerial ability in Frank TBH. He may not have any honours to his name as yet, but every manager starts out at 0 until they get the opportunity.

Of course there will be reservations, but his actual abilities as a coach shouldn't really be up for questioning.

If we do part ways with AP, which I do think will be the upshot regardless, we could do a lot worse than Frank.
I think Frank is the best option of all those in the PL that could be targets. His Champo teams were top scorers and as a nice to have he comes across v well. Seems v intelligent and maybe could manage Levy.

But really, finding an improvement would be the easiest thing.

I just hope that today's result has reminded most people what an absolute cluster fuck this season has been. Yes you could say it was because of the celebrations taking their toll, but if you watched the game you'd see that the same old set up and tactics were still there, which any half competent team will always overcome.

Yes, we've won a trophy. That's fantastic, it really is but it doesn't excuse the dam right embarrassing season this club has actually had.

I've been Ange out since around October last year and winning the Europa League hasn't changed my mind one bit. Don't get me wrong, i'm grateful to him and i'm sure he's put all his efforts into it, but if we're being honest with the bread and butter of league, he's been absolutely garbage.

If there was any chance that I think that things would change with him next season, I'd say let him carry on but all the evidence is there to see, that we will massively struggle in the league again, especially being combined with the CL campaign and I have genuine concerns that we'd be relegated. That's how little faith I have in him.

Not only that, I actually really dislike the bloke, but that's personality thing rather than ability so I can't use that against him about a footballing decision.

The fan base will be split no doubt, and you'll gonna have the few trolls trolling but i'll nail my colours to the mast right now. Sack him first thing tomorrow morning and move on ASAP. The club will be better off for it.

Tbh today felt more like a EL performance on sedatives

We tried to sit deep and counter. It was more like what everyone thought would fix our problems during the injury crisis than it was the all out press and attack that people said was always our weak point. They didn’t break our press or counter because we didn’t press or attack.

If anything worries me about Ange and this squad now it’s that we’ve FORGOTTEN how to play attacking football and dominate games.

I've always been a supporter of Ange through thick and thin making allowances.....but it feels like the natural conclusion to his reign.

For whatever reason the league has just passed us by and I can't see how any of that will change if we give him another season...... we'll just see more and more results like we have until the eventual sacking.

Thanks Ange, but let's call time on this.

This team on paper is a top 8 team. We’ve bought a lot of youngsters for the future and they are central to our post poch - squeeze a lemon, kick a dead horse - out of his team that he himself needed refreshing. But we need champions league players if we are going to play in the champions league and giving a new manager a young squad on the up with CL money. We are a hot prospect. And we can do much better than ange
The manager is on paper too.....toilet paper

Glasner is a good shout. Spurs are a project team. Taking a really young team totally rebuilt from the poch one, finally, with our financial clout (that we never use) and the CL money and allure, this is the perfect project for an up and coming manager. Just not ange. We can’t just be buying excellent young prospects either.

Why would Glasner come to us? He has the likes of Guéhi and Eze in the Europa League. They finished 15 points, 5 positions, and 1 goal above us. Yes, they didn't have the extra games in Europe, but they are arguably a better team and project or at least level and easier to stay with than abandon.

Even Xabi Alonso waited a season to go to Real Madrid. And we are a long way off Real Madrid!

i dont think we have a chance of glasner now. they love him at palace and hell be making history next season again in their first european campaign.

If he leaves now, he can leave a hero forever welcome back at the lane. He stays next season and he has us in a relegation scrap then his reputation takes a battering.

There must be a part of him contemplating this.
