It’s fucking crazy that people seem happy with the status quo. Top 4 finish, get knocked out of everything and win nothing. It all seems very Levyesque!
Absolutely. This time last year Ange was saying:
“I don’t even know what a Plan B would be. I will never change my way of playing, it goes against what I’m trying to build”.
“I don’t want to be falsely rewarded [by playing more pragmatic football]”.
“I want to win every game, I would never go into a game not wanting to win”.
Now he’s u-turned on all those things to get us a trophy, and it worked. But unfortunately he’s had to betray his principles and he has pretty much admitted that all the criticism was valid. He turned cynical at the end and focused on short term results rather than the football philosophy which he swore he would never do. If he’s lost belief in his own vision of football then I don’t see any reason to continue. Angeball doesn’t work and he knows it and there are managers who play proper football to a far higher standard than Ange ever could.
Holy shit stop it, Pochettino rested the whole team in Europa to go after league titles. We ultimately fell short of that but that’s because we were battling for much harder prizes. We got to a champions league final under Poch, you know how much better a team has to be to reach a CL final than they do to win a Europa?
The Europa win was amazing, especially considering how awful we’ve been all season, but some of you want to act like Ange achieved the impossible or something Poch could never have done.
I promise you if Poch could achieve a CL final with the teams we beat on the way to that, he could have won a EL if he had decided to go all out for one.
It’s absolutely laughable the way you lot are twisting this. Not being happy with the way we’ve played for a year and a half doesn’t equate to being happy with just top 4 and no trophies. It’s not a fucking trade off.
The fans want & deserve decent performances every week (they pay a fortune) and to see a developing team. And they don’t deserve to see us hand out points to rivals like confetti.
You can manage that and win something. Newcastle did it this very season. You guys want to make the narrative ‘trophies or league form’ when this isn’t a real question for any serious teams at all.
This season was unacceptable long before Ange got the EL in his sights and decided to throw away everything at it because he saw the teams involved.
So he didnt want to work under Ange any longer......has he let the cat out the bag that he is staying? Or is it being spun like that by the reporter?

In 1934-35 we also lost 22 games, but that was a 42 game rather than 38 game season.
So worst season from a games lost perspective in our 143 year history.

I think it's crazy people seem happy with us being effortlessly beaten by Forest, Palace, Brighton, Ipswich, Fulham, Wolves and that's not even getting us started on conceding 11 goals to Liverpool over two league games and our inability to keep with the goons even on our own turf.
The league is where play 38 league games against our peers. Fellow members of the toughest and best league in the world and we've been convincingly shit.
We're not talking about a sticky patch of form where we finished midtable. I'd get that. I wouldn't mind it now and again. But losing 22 out of 38 isn't a fluke it's a total car crash. No Spurs manager should ever survive it and this shouldn't be a controversial take.

Ange was instructed - get champions league football - at ALL costs.

If the club weren't happy with league results, they would have made a change in Jan. They knew Ange was a winner, and he guaranteed success.
My money is on Ange being at City by the end of summer. We should be offering him a massive contract to stay not sacking him!!
I guarantee, Ange will be lifting the champions league title in the next couple of years, hopefully with Spurs

Nope, consensus on here at seasons start was prefer a trophy over top 4. Look back at the threads.
That’s lovely. I doubt that consensus also included being 17th and continuing our generally dire performances from the back end of last season to the point where every week was a painful chore.

But it just highlights an incredible lack of critical thinking when anyone compares it to what Poch’s squad achieved over numerous seasons.
Ange couldn’t handle Europa league football and even finishing top half. With a squad assembled for what 5x the value of 16/17 Pochetinnos?
The fact is the Europa league is now an easier cup to win. Harder to go out in the group stage as it’s been replaced by a league format . And then no CL clubs parachute in.
And then the top 8 clubs are seeded.
It’s hardly rocket science to work out that if you argue those points you are trolling the shit out of this place.
But he did what he was contracted to do. Within 2 seasons back in Europe, won a European trophy and back in the CL. Albeit in the midst of an unprecedented injury crisis and managing a squad full of youngsters.
Yes the league form was shit but it comes with a massive caveat…..
